Objection! Any color scheme that consists of anything except red, white, and blue is unpatriotic and has no place in this thread. Flag dat stuff up, y'all.

Yeah, I don't actually know how the original is made/distributed. Could be free, could be paid... it doesn't really matter so far as infringement goes, though, unless the actual author has given permission or is using a permissive license of some sort. Free online often doesn't mean free anywhere online, with whatever modifications whoever pleases to make. Can easily violate copyright law distributing or modifying a free work, heh, for all that the folks making them are usually too poor or too ideologically inclined towards sharing et al to really do anything about it.

... honestly, I usually don't really check with translated work, I just refrain from linking directly. If you assume it's infringement there's not going to be a problem even if it isn't :P

E: But yeah, web serials and LNs and whatnot tend to kinda' be the Dwarf Fortress of modern literature so far as metaphorical development cycles go, particularly if they get popular enough donations and/or ad funds can support the author fully or in part (and that's assuming they don't end up outright published and sold via normal distribution routes). Some end, some just keep going until the author dies or somethin'.

This it? Nine hundred and fifteen chapters, three hundred and twenty seven of them translated. The amount of work that has gone into this crazy garbage is just staggering.
Not sure whether it's a violation of forum ToS or not to link to that (translations like that are usually examples of blatant copyright infringement :P), but yeah, that's it. One of the amusing things is while the translation is further along than most, the work itself is apparently not particularly unusual vis a vis length for its sort of literature :V

It's becoming increasingly tempting to learn to read chinese (and japanese, and korean, ahahaha) just to have open access to the whole run of the stuff.

Naaah, they haven't been being used. Only places they get used are open, obvious, and walked by regularly. Things would have been notably cleaner if the sponges were being unearthed.

Hey man, refuge in audacity. Or hiding in plain sight? Something along those lines. It's entirely too early to brain well on less'en four hours of sleep.

Still, you could make the argument it's basic sun tzu-y stuff. When attacking, appear to defend. When bribing, appear to be paying long agreed on reparations. That would assume a lot more competence than I'm particularly willing to give to the folks involved, though, personally...

That feeling when you realize that that thing you hid to keep other people from ruining too quickly, you hid too well.

Alas, poor cleaning sponges, I knew ye. I have no idea where the hell I put you. Maybe not hide the next batch quite so enthusiastically.

And in the continuing adventures of paper crane man, he has now set himself on fire, ate a self-combustion plant to catch himself more on fire, jumped into a lake and hung out at the bottom for a while, still on fire, then climbed out, walked home clothed in nothing but a rain cloud, and had the size of his dick laughed at by a giant goose.

Ho yez, dot's th'good stuff. This is the gift that is apparently going to keep on giving. Shame I really need to go to sleep now...

How do you stop corporations from bribing the commission?
Regular application of fire.

Well. More accurately in that case any organization caught attempting to bribe the commission could just have all their assets seized. Maybe keep it running but give a share of the stock to every citizen or somethin'. It wouldn't prevent it outright but it'd make it a fair bit less likely.

I thought Eugenics was dead?
Nah, not entirely. Certainly not in non-human fields, heh, where it's as thriving as it ever was. But there's the occasional bit of varying degrees of discredit of the human sort, too, I do believe. Not like there's not enough money in groups inclined towards that sort of thing to get it some funding.

... paper crane man is now paying a head devil that appears to be squatting in his soul to basically chop up his brain with a magic kung-fu laser sword. And, like. Cash. He's paying the head devil with the local currency.*

This. This is why I read translated stuff. You just don't really get this shit from english native literature. You get other sorts of pleasing absurdity but not this sort of pleasing absurdity.

* Being fair, as near as I can tell the local currency is what amounts to the rough equivalent of varying strengths of mana potion, but... still.

... by chapter six or seven or so, I have been introduced to the magnificent evil paper crane. Well, author, you've convinced me to keep reading this tale of a man somewhat traumatized by a tiny paper crane. Congratulations.

Thing's apparently called world of cultivation, since I'm usually not enough of a jackass to mention a work and not its title, so long as the content isn't too egregious.

I guess. Some. Not nearly as much as folks appear to be trying to make it, but sure, the timing could have been better on that front. Not sure by how much, but better.

... also wow, what the hell. The money was actually Iran's. Like, literally theirs, that had been sitting in a trust fund for years due to sanctions. How the hell do you call giving someone their own bloody money back paying a ransom? How does this friggin' work?

Goddamnit, I think the sheer brain numbing stupidity involved here is giving me an actual headache.

Has the definition of secret changed on me at some point? Do you need two years forewarning and goddamn trumpets for it to no longer apply or somethin'?
