No. Not north america, anyway. There's definitely some problems (particularly stateside), but it's not that far gone by a fair amount.
Pretty strong argument to make for a few south/central american countries (Mexico, ferex), but the US/canada not so much.

To be fair, for a lot of the US working population, daily light fever and headache is something they probably do work through something approximating regularly. Medical costs et al, something that's not coughing blood may not be something a lot of folks can justify spending the money and, more importantly, time, to get checked on.
That said, even if it is mosquito born and whatnot, the mosquito situation in the states, even in this shithole hellswamp of poverty, is... not nearly as bad as it is in a lot of the areas similar stuff is rather serious problems. Birth defects, maybe, I guess, but it's not like smoking, drinking, and drugs aren't doing that already. If zika actually manages to bat in the same ballpark as those I'll start being worried. As is it's a lot of smoke and attention but little fire, and pretty likely to stay that way so far as the US goes.

Not that you've missed much, really, except for last night's double-header of "The Bonfire of the Cruz" and "Ingraham, She-Wolf of the SS".Ah. Wasn't exactly paying attention, just remembered the TV promising trump would be giving details today. Figured that'd be something you start the convention with, but I guess not.
E: Though yeah, I'm... not actually that worried about Zika in the states. There's been more than one thing like it, that seriously screwed up joints in SA or Africa or whathaveyou, that hit the US and its Actual!Infrastructure and didn't really do much. Haven't seen much indication worth note that it'll be any different this time around.

There... was more to the canada thing than you're saying, go. You kinda' have to remember that minority LGBT populations get shat on even harder than the non-minority ones, often notably by the latter. So them specifically pushing for something related to substantially racial issues that are definitely disproportionately hitting certain groups is... something that often needs doing. Far as general treatment goes, LGBT folks of color are often notably worse off, and police treatment of 'em is definitely part of that.
Problem with the pride parade up north was more not hashing things out beforehand with the organisers than anything. Far as I'm aware the folks arranging for the parade agreed with what BLM was doing there, just wanted more warning.

... only sometimes. Other times treating the symptoms but not the cause can make the cause worse, or induce new problems. Or cost so much it renders affording a fix for the cause non-viable. So... no. Talk to doctor before any sort of long-term/consistent medication regimen, even if it's over the counter stuff. There's a reason most OtC meds say to seek a doc after a certain amount of regular use.

Oh man, today's the convention, isn't it. Anyone here intending to watch? Has it already started or is that just pre-game trumpism? It'd be nice to hear about it live-ish for us folks that have no TV and are extremely disinterested in using bandwidth on it :V

« on: July 20, 2016, 11:51:27 pm »Listen. I don't believe cop training is perfect. I think reform is needed. The problem is, BLM is not pushing for reform. They want to punish cops who follow their bad training and kill someone. The fact is, calling cops psychopaths isn't the most helpful thing to do.I mean... to a fair extent, yes? Accountability is one of the major things the general BLM movement is pushing for, which is pretty much exactly what punishing people who follow shit training and kill someone is. Ignorance is no excuse before the law, et al; civilian world you have things like criminal negligence in the workplace and whatnot, or just worker's comp in general. It's not like the opinion that some degree of consequence existing for certain actions could incentivize the behavior to cut back a bit is particularly radical... it's questionable in extremis and for certain problems, but we're pretty well aware doing stuff like bringing in third party checks and whatnot seem to do pretty good things for police behavior in a locality.
Still, yeah, calling cops in general psychopaths isn't particularly helpful. Acknowledging that there appears to be an abnormally high occurrence (or at least retention when it's noticed) of similar behaviors in the force is probably a thing (kinda' like being aware of the incidence of sociopathy among upper tier management, in business in particular), but the blanket condemnation is... not something too many people are actually doing, really. Not regarding insanity, at least. There's a couple around here that have more or less gone poe, but...

For what it's worth, most of the libraries where I'm at (poor, rural, overstuffed and underfunded) have pretty comfortable chairs, at least in part.
That said, it kinda' sounds like some nitwit thought that new-ish "modern" style (i.e. metal and glass) was a good idea. I've met a few of those crazy people before.

Always go with bees.
In fact, you should mod in a race of bee people to use for the fort.

Sweet zombie monkey jesus the TV said Trump's going to give details at the convention tomorrow. Or some old jackass to that was speaking to a reporter, anyway. Ones that, to paraphrase, will prove his credentials as a statesman and lay rest to doubts that he'll be a capable president.
Anyone know where I can get good prices on anti-swine umbrellas? I'm now terribly afraid pigshit will be raining down from the heavens in the morning.

Though it's... fairly hard to argue that "European socialism" (i.e. democratic socialism) isn't what the democratic party has been pushing towards for, like. Longer than I've been alive. Maybe not 100% always on point, but most of the things you'd see in a functioning democratic socialist state has been either party policy or what party policy is trying to make viable on a political/cultural level for... decades. It's not exactly recent or some kind of new fad...
