Probably just whatever smell wasn't common in the area max spent most of their time previously.

Geographic stenches are like accents, really. Everyone has them, but many will try to deny they're there.

Not sure what this has to do with the UK, though, unless it's even started smelling worse since the referendum :V

General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

Haven't watched S2 yet, but I thought Megumi was the female lead? Whatshername the big cheese is the antagonist. It doesn't really "telegraph her future involvement" so much as show her being won over by the MC's charisma.
I haven't watched the anime at all, but vis a vis the manga the big cheese blonde is definitely the primary female lead. It's probably one of the most blatant bits of the entire story's construction, and considering the story that's saying a hell of a lot. She's in conflict what the MC, but it's more rivalry than outright antagonism, and there's gigantic gaping maws of foreshadowing she's the love interest. The extent the story focuses on or includes her (including her perspective) also gradually increases as the manga progresses. Pretty sure she gets more page time than megumi does, to boot, who while an important character is more a particularly fleshed out supporting member of the cast. Which is saying a lot considering the living arrangements involved, heh. Megumi's a friend, and definitely a vehicle the author's using to drive some stories/arcs/etc., but female lead she is not.

If there's a persistent antagonist, by the by, it's
at least from what I can recall, and so far as I noticed. I'll admit I was only half-heartedly paying attention to the plot, though :V

It's way out of your league MSH. You couldn't even survive being spread out over a small geographical location, never mind a whole state.

Personally I don't have anything against polyamory. I just don't ever intend to engage in it, because I don't feel that having multiple romantic partners allows one to give the full attention necessary to a healthy relationship.
Eeehhh... thing with a healthy poly relationship is that the group is sharing attention. Same amount of attentiveness, just split three ways instead of two. Relies on synergy to make up for that somewhat lessened one-to-one concern. It... doesn't work for a lot of people, but it does for some. There's give with poly relationships, from what I've seen, in terms of what sorts of stresses they can take, that you don't have in couples -- can't, really, due to simple logistics and whatnot. Having three (or more) people to split the burdens of life means no one of them are quite the same degree of linchpin they can be with a single pair... and there's situations/relationships where that can make a lot of difference, just having the extra flexibility on all levels (emotional, physical, fiscal, etc.) that having three people on tap instead of two provides.

Old friend of mine's actually been part of a poly triad for the better part of the last decade or so. Good odds th'fellow wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for their support, and it would have been a lot rougher if it'd just been one partner. But with two other folks able to make time and provide aid (and have time made for, and aid given, etc., etc.) instead of one, well, not able to. It's worked out pretty well, so far as I'm aware.

... personally, it's been a long while I've figured that a polyamorous relationship is probably the only sort of romantic one I could be in that could be healthy. I just don't have the energy or emotional... consistency, I guess? To really give what's needed to be someone's sole support in that sort of sense. But with another person in the mix to help dilute the effort involved for any one partner a bit... maybe, y'know? Maybe. Probably never get around to trying, but eh.

Uh, okay look I don't know.  My dad talks a lot, and knows, but I'm not going to ask-
It's a Kindle (r)...  My understanding is that Amazon stripped the Google stuff in order to support their proprietary app store and everything else.

Again, I don't know and I have a problem with finding out, but,
You need to root that shit.
Yeah, the kindle thing was amazon being a shit -- part of the reason I haven't registered this device with 'em. The PC thing's google being an idiot, though. There's ways around it that don't involve rooting the kindle, it's just a hell of a lot more effort than I should be expending on this.

E: I'm still going to do it, at this point more out of spite than anything, but still.

... today I learned that it is apaprently rather frustratingly difficult to get google play to work on either a kindle or to get it to just let me goddamn download the apk onto my computer and deal with things from there.

Google. Google. Why don't you want my money? I get some of this is amazon's fault but for the love of fornication every minute I deal with this is another minute closer to saying fuckit and addressing this problem through alternate means. And it's a problem that could have been trivially solved by just... not having to associate a device to their service.

Huh. Saw some interesting figures somewhere else... wondering if someone better acquainted with the UK could confirm. Apparently they have a debt of ~1.5 trillion, with a 3% deficit (I.e. it'll go up by about 45 billion within the next year)... and an estimated impact of tax evasion pegged around 70b. Is this accurate? Could the UK actually completely erase their current deficit (and then some) if they thoroughly enforced their tax laws?

The only one to actually bow out was banebo & co.  EA's lot won, the spaghetti set was the only other one still standing, and the capitulation of the other lot was what ended the game.

I... would hope not? Some things are better off in one piece, rather than split into parts...

Anyways, I could try to do another news round-up tonight if you want. Not now, work break's almost over, but if people are actually reading these/helped by it I wouldn't mind doing it from time to time.
Wouldn't be objected to, methinks. I've been reading over the posts, if only occasionally actually following the links, heh.

Is that progress or movement?
... it's progress. Movement to the positive is progress. If you're going to say less of my fellow countrymen being murdered by mobs primarily because of their skin color isn't positive, then I... probably don't have anything left to say that wouldn't involve vulgarity. Not really the thread for it, anyway.
VAT in the UK for years was 17.5%. After the 2008 crash it was dropped to 15% temporarily for one year as a stimulus measure (get people and businesses spending money). Then in 2011 the coalition raised it to 20% as part of Osborne's first emergency budget.
How'd that work out? Though I guess screwing your country over by a sixth is better than a third? Again assuming the VAT is/was actually screwing the country over. Not sure I'd agree with that assumption, m'self, but it seems to be the one folks railing about the thing are making.

Necro sounds neat, ahaha. Definitely interested in minion classes, and ones with permanent ones (particularly ones with much in the way of customization) are fairly rare in roguelikes. Multiple ones fairly rare period. So it'll be nice to see. Does sound like they'll be less legion-of-undead-y, but... maybe some kind of later game global effect? Fertile domain except zombies! Ghosts flapping about bothering people (and/or helping out, too.). That sort of thing. Anything that twigs the Dominions vibe is good stuff, heh, though I guess scale wise it's more the mentioned MoM or AoW. Still.

And ah, to the EA. Saw the connection regarding the mentioned series' Infinity Archive, which plays a somewhat notable role in the things' plots. There's a handful of other similar termed/themed things throughout media, too, so it was worth asking if there was a particular shout out behind it. It being original is cool, too, though.

Good to know about the smithing -- definitely explains why I never managed to figure out what it did. Didn't buy or keep many weapons with a negative modifier on 'em. And that event must be pretty rare indeed... unless I just haven't been checking the right ones (so far I haven't messed with anything over goblin tier, for all those start throwing hoards of stone golems at you pretty quickly*), I haven't seen it yet,. Good to hear about the 0.4.0 stuff, too.

And re: Paradox... may be underestimating it a little. The parts I'd call interesting from a design perspective would probably be the later game stuff -- the various methods of anomaly management that the chronomancy classes (and chronomancers in particular) have. They've got some neat ideas of how to turn miscasts/failures into something that's more than just a punishment, and are fairly well tuned so you start getting access right about when it starts becoming really likely you're going to be running in the unstable zone. Far from perfect, but there's some neat ideas there, even if there's no place for 'em in numenfall.

Think relative to numenfall's current system, it'd look like something (probably later on, or fairly exotic) that weaponizes/utilizes magical imbalance, turning that inert energy into something more... energetic, ehehe, ferex. Or having high levels of imbalance starting to have a sort of general harmony/discord effect for the surrounding area**... stuff like that. It'd be something to tweak so it starts coming into play around the point it starts getting really likely you're going to be running high imbalance/saturation/etc., and implemented in a way that rather than punishing the player, it changes things. If there was any interest, anyway, which it'd be entirely understandable if there isn't.

*Actually, now that I think about it, how intentional is that? I've been finding that usually somewhere in the teens or so, character level wise, stuff like the goblin slave camps stop being populated by goblins and start being populated by large angry rocks... which tends to accelerate the effect, 'cause those golems are pretty good XP.
**It'd be really neat if there eventually ended up a way to just permanently break the balance of a certain area, with all sorts of effects from it, actually. Changes to potions made/used in it, all sorts of stuff. Or just having particular areas that are like that -- magical dumping grounds that are so infused with discord that harmony effects become unusable and discord ones automatic, ferex (with the extra bonus of functionally having 16 rune-thingies while you're in there, assuming the area corrupted the harmony remnants into discord fragments, anyway). Or a particularly wrecked area that has it fluctuating, ahaha.

E: Actually, on the subject of intent... are shop keepers supposed to attack you if you pass out in their shop while holding an unpaid item? Haven't checked to see if it's still doing that in this latest version, but it was in 0.3.7. Was probably the most amusing death I've had so far, I think. General store fellow took umbrage to the critter browsing their goods being potion drunk, I guess :V

E2: Ah, bug report! If you see it, anyway. Apparently if you try to autoexplore when you're in, at least, the top leftmost tile of the map, the game will crash.
