-What kind of nine-year-old knows what a blowjob is? Was the frankly ridiculous amount of sexual content (given that this book is about a nine-year-old kid) some kind of avant-garde, or an attempt to shock the reader?
Millions upon millions of them? I had ran into necrophilia by the time I was eight, so far as knowledge goes (fuck you, anthony!). Even more would know about 'em nowadays, probably. Not all of my peers would have known what a blowjob was, but if you had asked a class of my fellow nine-year-olds, the number would not have been zero (well, assuming you could get an honest answer out of all of them). And that was before the advent of much internet saturation.

Think the most amusing bit about that was the post a bit before claiming to be a heretic where OW spoke against an increase in heresy. Apparently OW's trying to get a monopoly or somethin'.

My guess would be the Asian currency exchanges opened for Monday business.
That'd could do it. Cheers.

1/3 does not mean the majority is "racist" even if you assume everyone that cared most about immigration was "racist". And that was a "please rank in order" question. They had to put it somewhere in there. It's notable that the #1 option was the same as what I've been hearing from people. That they wanted the UK to govern itself.
I said nothing about majority, slui. I said it had a major effect. It's pretty clear that, yes, xenophobia and racism had a major effect.

Would it be enough to flip the results if there hadn't been a substantial amount of xenophobia and racism motivating the leave vote? Hell if I know. But it's fairly likely the vote would have been at least a lot closer if that hadn't been involved.

And heh. As someone that's lived in areas that have significant issues with racism all my life, let me tell you a lot of them very fervently express their desire to govern themselves (their state, country, whatever) -- because it'd let them screw over whatever their target groups are. Kinda' like how "states rights" in the US is a major dog whistle for a number of subjects. Some folks definitely play it straight, and mean what they say. Quite a few don't.

Ayup. And I'd definitely say those two have the best UI of any spiderweb game currently made, including the Avadon ones, which for whatever reason are a bit clunkier on that front. Geneforge 5 is probably just a step behind, about on par with the Avadon games, iirc.

That didn't seem to matter to the leavers.
Immigration was literally the second most important reason voters went leave. About a third of leave voters had that as their number one reason for voting as they did. Not all of them were racist, of course. Some probably had some reason or another to think the UK would have more control of their immigration policies if divorced from the EU (Opt out? What opt out?), however accurate that belief was.

But you're kinda' deluding yourself if you think a substantial amount of those who voted primarily due to immigration weren't racist, or at least notably xenophobic, to one degree or another. Nor that all of those who voted primarily for other reasons didn't have immigration, and to whatever degree or lack thereof the dog whistles involved, as a notably reason besides their main. There's incredibly little doubt racism and xenophobia had a pretty substantial effect in how the referendum played out.

The amusing thing from the american perspective is that the results of the UK vote would have... pretty much never happened in the US. Which kinda' makes it weird when US folks crow over the "victory of democracy", when they're living in a country that it would be viewed as a significant failure of democracy. Our system is pretty much explicitly set up to stop anything but a supermajority from having any significant influence over major issues :V

Basically this is one of the better examples of the democracy the US was in part built to avoid, ehehe. Not that the referendum is binding or anything, technically, but still.

Eeeehhhh... excellent is probably going a bit too far. They're definitely good, solid games with generally pretty decent writing and mechanics, but they're not particularly... well, more than good. They're very consistently what you'd kinda' call second-tier RPGs, methinks. What you go to when you've played or can't afford most of the really impressive ones.

That said, particularly the newer ones (The Avernum remakes, Geneforge 4, 5, the Avadon ones to perhaps a lesser degree -- due to UI issues more than anything, as they're a lot more user friendly than the older ones) are definitely something I'd recommend. They are good, and particularly the geneforge and avernum series have some of the most interesting settings RPG computer games can offer, even if the mechanics and writing isn't really much more than just competent.

Don't want to downplay 'em too much, I think, and they're pretty damn impressive from the standpoint of how they've been developed, but also don't want someone to be approaching them expecting more than they are, basically. They're just good, and definitely worth the money when they're on sale (which is fairly often, eheh), but not amazing or anything.

By the way, MSH, I'm interested in hearing your views on Wales. There hasn't really been much said any where, but it shocked me that it voted leave. I assume you voted in, however? If you've gone over this already, sorry - just link me to it.
... do you mean some other MSH? Metal's in north carolina. Not wales. And ninja'd, but eh.

And yeah. Go figure, people in a more stable household are less likely to be concerned by economic issues. Or at least existentially/primarily so. They know they've got a backup, and they've been away from the ratrace for long enough the situation on the ground isn't as immediate. Is, again, the point.

Also no, it's almost always a lot easier to make more money when you've already got a base. When you're not paying rent, don't have to travel, and all those sorts of things that being well and long established brings, suddenly a small paycheck becomes a lot larger. I've been living watching it for the last few years. I've got family that's making probably around 40-50k USD annually between the pair of them. I've got other family that's making more than that. Guess which of the two is having an easier time accumulating savings and dealing with day to day issues? Hint: The old couple is the one that's been buying houses, plural, over the last five or six years. The young ones are the ones living in some of those houses :V

can we just stop blaming people for voting for what they want to happen.

thank you.
Chances of that happening is inversely proportional to the extent people are getting screwed over by that, methinks. Folks've got a right to vote as they please. They ain't got a right to avoid criticism for it, yeah? It goes both ways, of course. Folks would've been free to kvetch if remain had got the small majority instead, too. There'd just be a lot less panic involved :V

The real problem's democracy. Giving every individual the power to voice their own self-interest? Who thought that was a good idea?
Nah, problem's not democracy. Problem's the ones that don't realize how sexy that 2/3rds or better majority for major issues is. Well, that and whatever the hell's going on with the UK's political parties right now, save maybe the SNP.

Many old people are the poor people. People on their pensions can not afford to have them cut, more often than not. Whilst richer in possessions, their income is directly reliant on the economy.
Sure, many old people are poor. Not really in question. Thing is. While many are. Many, many more young people are, as well. Somewhere to the tune of about twice as many, at least.

So yes. They're rather significantly less likely to be existentially hurt by this. And go figure, they were significantly more likely to give it the go ahead. Has been point. Not that poor old people don't exist.

We also have a thread for it. Might consider checking out Roguebasin, too. Newgrounds/armor games/kongregate are probably the primary flash game sites out there, if that's of interest. Lotta' junk on those. Probably a bunch of other stuff out there as well, but that'd give a nice start to things.

What ZebioLizard2 said.

I'm just thinking over weird/intresting variations for hosting, like "Normal game, but we just fast forward past the first 3 turns, so we got a bunch of "rich/old/kingdoms" at the start of the first playable turn.
If you're going to do that, you might as well go big. Fastforward to like turn 50 or somethin'.
