Sure? A legally mandated and defined/regulated paramilitary organization (e.g. militias) is to be allowed to have and carry firearms, for the protection of the country against threats to its freedom. Would be the more or less direct translation.

... everything doesn't? But a lot of stuff even marginally anime related (and pedobear is definitely that, as the considered example) does, for... pretty obvious reasons.

Hooray, the UK has 83%!

Now if only that 83% were ANY OF THE BIG THINGS THAT MATTER

I'm not sure what you're talking about.
Talking about the article mainiac linked a bit upthread. Turns out UK politicians manage to enact, to some degree, 83% of their campaign promises, on average. Currently the metaphorical opposition opinion seems to be it's only a country's equivalent to the other 17% that actually matters, and politicians are apparently filling 2/3rds+ of their campaign promises and political career in the pursuit of what amounts to fluff (or lies, or both, depending on who's talking at the moment) and barely, if ever, managing to influence anything of substantial import.

Would leave it as an exercise to the reader as to if that's actually an accurate observation of the state of things, heh. Seems to me that most people pretty badly underestimate exactly what's going on in the halls of legislature an' whatnot, but eh.

... seriously man, you're digging yourself into a hole. The 2nd amendment is currently considered an individual right, and started heading in that direction in the 60s. There's not exactly a guarantee it'll stay like that -- there's a fair number of constitutional scholars and general legal folks that are of the opinion that the individual right may not actually be constitutionally protected, due largely to the fact that for the first century and change of the existence of the US, it was basically not even considered as a possibility by anyone -- but currently the legal precedence is on that side of things, and there's not exactly any denying that.

Though it's not like even most of the more rabid anti-control advocates actually stick to their dukes in regards to an unlimited, unrestrained 2nd; most of them are still perfectly fine with denying quite a few people access to firearms for what's often no particularly good reason (coughnonviolentfelonscough). And if you're willing to let a person's right to firearm ownership be infringed because of a criminal record -- i.e., you're saying their ownership of a weapon is sufficiently a risk to the public, such that it's acceptable to kill their 2nd amendment rights even if they don't have a history of violence -- there's plenty of room for other restrictions as well (just apply the same concept to anyone who isn't trained/licensed/etc., or apply it to certain categories of weapon. We already kinda' do for some of the higher end stuff; the limits on ownership and usage for stuff like chainguns or rocket launchers and whatnot are pretty strenuous, iirc). Or at least plenty of room for a great deal of hypocrisy :V

You'll get yer free rupees through murder and you'll like it. You're one of gaming history's longest lasting murderhobos and by the gods you'll live down to your reputation or else.

... and plenty of pretty good stuff that is similarly floating through under the radar. Lotta' junk doesn't really catch much attention.

I wasn't saying anything about fairness. Just wanting to make sure I was reading it right.

... well, the map. Pretty sure they explicitly say hyrule castle's there, too. I guess it could conceptually be that goddamn whale again or somethin', but it mostly looks like they're playing things pretty straight.

You got that luluco reference backwards :P

And... well. There's a fairly consistent aesthetic, but it's... not really what it first appears. Or it is and it kinda' isn't. Things escalate pretty quickly, ehehe.

It'll be the next "non-sentient thing becomes cute anime girl" show
tfw your body pillow is literally your waifu
I... would watch that.
Bit back, but for what it's worth, there is literally porn of that. Don't think it's animated, but there's at least a tank or two.

Ah, so the appearance of principles is irrelevant to you. Regardless of what a politician manages to do or how it appears they managed it, you're operating under the assumption it was somehow crooked in the background, apparently most likely in some way that makes the apparent gain a net loss.

That about right? Seems about what you just typed, at least. If it ain't, some clarification'd probably be nice.

That is idiotic, unenforceable, and unconstitutional, and in no way a response to actual homicide statistics, in which handguns are the most popular weapon by a huge margin.
Eeeehhh, the constitutionality of it is still pretty questionable. Wasn't until the 60s the 2nd amendment was anything but a collective right so far as the law went, and it's perfectly viable to ban individual ownership in that case. And so far as I'm aware the constitutional basis of it as an individual right is still pretty tenuous, fifty-ish years later. Probably won't be seeing a return to that any time soon because, y'know, basically no one, pro or anti, liberal or conservative, actually wants that to happen, but it'd fit just fine into the constitution. Probably not the best of ideas, and yeah handguns are a substantially larger issue, but eh.

Though as to the paving thing, I'm pretty sure the road to hell's not very paved right now by those drivers licenses, tags, mandatory insurance, and road laws. Somewhat paved, because yeah, those systems are abused a bit, but I... would think most of us (i.e. the entire nation) would agree those were things that infringed on peoples' rights that were damn good ideas to implement. If anything, the generally non-vital/recreational nature of firearm ownership means there'd be significantly less infringement going on with similar impositions than there are for driving right now.

It's also pretty bold to imply that it's impossible for a candidate to fulfill some of their bread-and-circuses quota while also serving the interests of the people and organizations that own them.
Well... yeah, that would be pretty bold. Pretty sure the implication was that they're actually fulfilling most of what they're promising to (i.e. they've got a set of principles and they're sticking to them more than not), and not much beyond that. Not that anything at all is impossible. There's plenty of folks out there that are mostly principled and still somewhat corrupt, in any case. Don't exactly like that m'self, but it's bloody hard to find someone that isn't the latter to some degree.

S'also worth noting you weren't exactly clear you were talking about the ethics of campaign finance and split loyalties, though. Didn't look like NFO was really focusing on that, either. Point looked to me like the important bit was the principles or lack thereof, and that was certainly something the linked article gave a good showing of addressing.

In other words, the research suggests that roughly a third of campaign promises made by presidential candidates are boldfaced lies and pandering.
... or, as the article said, unable to fulfilled for one reason or another. Of which the reasons are many and oft don't actually boil down to corruption. Honestly, most of what I've seen over the years really did kinda' boil down to "reality intervened" (i.e. they got the logistics wrong, the political situation changed, etc., etc.) more than lying or pandering.

I get the general viewpoint y'all have on this, in no small part because the area I'm in actually is corrupt as fuck, but you may be taking it further than appropriate.

Quote
So yeah. Candidates don't lie on the campaign trail and they can't benefit the people that fund them if they make even a trivial effort to serve the public.
2/3rds partial or full success rate is... not trivial, man. It's not perfect, but the point that was trying to be made is that it's more substantial than not. And in the face of the whole, y'know. Reality thing. That's pretty damn good. It's honestly somewhat more impressive if they are indulging in corruption at the same time, because it means they're managing that much while still porking the proverbial barrel. Does mean they'd be doing more if they weren't, but hell. It's something.

You bitch that they are unprincipled and dont care about what they say and then when I point out that is not true you bitch about changing the topic.
But c'mon, m, FD was bitching that they were insufficiently and/or inappropriately principled and didn't care about specific portions of what they say, not that they were lacking principles or concern entirely.

It is a good pain.

But yeah... watched some more unadulterated (and muted -- after that one linked here I figured it's maybe better for me if they don't talk) gameplay footage it... doesn't quite invoke that sense of instinctive revulsion? There's still quite a lot of stuff that's got me pretty conflicted, substantially so in regards to aesthetics (gabby still kinda' pisses me off seeing him fight more, as do the dreadnaughts' AoE effect, all the shiny makes it even harder to tell what's going on than DoW1's style did, etc., etc.) and somewhat less so in regards to shown gameplay (those flamer squads -- worst kind of micro. Knight's abilities also look really unresponsive, at the moment. Some other stuff. Infantry squads looked a fair bit too DoW2 for me in constitution, numbers are better shown but it's still largely "less than DoW1" levels), but... well. With the sound off and the viewpoint less... constricted, I guess, it's a lot less like the footage was specifically designed to get under the skin of someone who has played DoW1 (and DoW2, to a lesser degree). Looks a bit more interesting, somewhat less irritating. Does look largely like they're going for "Between DoW 1 & 2" instead of better than either, which is, like. Not anything towards the hopes I was starting to get. But it's a thing.

I'unno, basically m'at the point I'm now not quite interested but no longer inclined towards setting the gameplay footage on fire and sinking it into a swamp. Have to wait until closer to release, I guess.

10845
... that. Isn't that a lot less clear than saying "He didn't say it." or thereabouts? As noted in some other articles, some of the people with eyes on couldn't even hear gunfire.

Is also still just one guy, not multiple eyewitnesses :-\

E: You promised multiple eye witnesses saying it didn't happen, vil! Where's our at least twopair eyes behind direct repudiation *fistshake*
