Hired and english major in the same sentence. There's a combination I haven't heard in a long time :V

E: Though thinking on it a bit, I guess it being someone's go-to example really does show the economy is improving! English majors getting hired again, truly the wheels of capitalism turn once more.

Not sure if there's areas that it's not, but I'm also not sure if there's a consistently named governmental organization that does it in most places. Like, there's a supervisor of elections (and whatever it is they head, as I've forgotten the exact name and don't feel like expending the effort to check) where I'm at but I have no gorram clue if that's what they call it in washington or somethin'. Wouldn't be surprising at all if they've got different names in other joints. They're largely state ran and local staffed/elected, so far as I know, which is another way of saying you get no assurance what the hell you're going to get :V

Naaaah. Not unless it's changed compared to the videos I've been watching, anyway. Whoever loses an underground fight is straight wiped -- if you catch them underground and win the fight, they don't disappear into the underground to reinforce, they disappear entirely and have to go get a new stack. Underground travel is indeed very powerful, but it's also probably the riskiest stance in the game, so far as I've noticed. Whoever's using it is gambling on being damn sure they can take anything that catches them.

... not sure how non-dwarf/orc factions go about catching armies moving underground, though. Not even entirely sure if they can, actually. Maybe on specific heroes/leaders if it's not just a low(er?) chance in general?

Write-ins are pretty much always allowed, so far as I'm aware. If you're unsure, ask when you reach the voting joint. They should be able to tell you how to go about it, if for some reason it's not obvious on the ballot.

E: Or better, check in with whatever organization handles the voting in your district beforehand. Supervisor of elections or whatev'. Should be able to email or call pretty painlessly, or just check their website and see if the answer's already there.

... uh. Isn't some huge chunk of the problems we're having dealing with that sort of stuff more or less precisely because many people think all that plastic and glass and whatnot does just go away?

Yeeaaah, looking at it, that's definitely the biggest barrier to my interest. Watching a vid or two shows it's not actually that complicated in game, but, well. The puzzle aspect is kinda' eh. More than anything my problem with it is definitely that it seems to distract from the... well, the interesting bits where your rooms and what they spew are actually doing things. Neat stuff'll be happening and you'll be down playing dr. mario, fantasy edition :-\

E: Though that screenie looks a lot different from the vids I've seen so far. Maybe they're running off an older version? That side by side is a hell of a lot better than the scrolling design I've been seeing in actual gameplay. Still annoying amounts of juggling, but that'd help.

Employers as a demographic are generally biased against minorities [citation needed] so we should legislate that they must be biased in the other direction.

Yup, nothing could possibly go wrong here.
Blue hell OW, repeat it with me: That's not what goddamn AA does. It's not about or intended to bias in the other direction (saying again, the anti-discrimination laws are still there!), it's meant to correct existent bias. It provides incentive/regulation to help (note: not mandate, help) employers correct for likely bias, particularly of the racial sort.

As for citations, you're welcome to spend a few minutes googling the (many) various studies that have been done over the last few decades that have been regularly showing the problem by the numbers (one was mentioned upthread, even), or workforce/employment demographics that make it fairly obvious that shit may just be a bit off. We're really damn aware of some of the common cultural issues related to this stuff, at this point.

So we want equality of outcome, then, and not opportunity? Why don't we just get the government to put everyone into jobs where they'd be most suited and pay them all the same?
No? Equality of opportunity is the entire bloody point. Inequality of outcome is still perfectly fine, usually even under various AA-style programs, so long as steps are being made to make sure everyone's actually being given their fair shake.

hough to be fair, when are you going to encounter 200 equally-qualified candidates?
Equally qualified, but not identical? Uh. Regularly? Not sure if you've realized this, but the U.S., at least, is a place where you can end up with hundreds/thousands of applications for a friggin' waitress position in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, never mind something that is actually easily a accessible and paying worth a damn. There being dozens or hundreds of candidates in that pile that are roughly equally qualified is... not terribly unusual.

Can say the pale one infantry (even the big holy ones... especially, really, because you have to have really precise positioning to stop them from being either suicidal or ineffective) were... kinda' shit. Never did really get a good handle on how the zog to use the bloody things, and early expansion in particular was miserable. I very much understand why agartha has trogs and whatnot, now :-\ Just about everything would ablate pretty hard, or even outright lose, to even amounts of and sometimes substantially outnumbered indies. I'd probably attribute somewhere between 5 and 15% of the culpability of my team's loss just on me not being able to get those bloody things to function worth a hoot, particularly during the early expansion phase.

Also those expensive castles hurt, pretty badly. Not sure if they had some kind of beneficial feature to go with them, but if they didn't, they... probably should.

And not a thing with NG itself, but I really bloody wish you could build on ally provinces without having get 'em to relinquish to you. I'm pretty sure our team would have been two or three times more effective if we could have... probably not as much of an issue for a team that has relatively few differences in construction, but ours only had one bog standard on that front and wrangling logistics around to get that stuff in line was... troublesome.

Ah yes, generalize about groups you never met.  ::)  Way too show that you are better then these strawmen.
Hold up, now. I was generalizing about groups I have met, for what it's worth. Have had entirely too much interaction with people on pretty much every side of this subject, from the employers to the employees, dissatisfied and otherwise, and there are incredibly and annoyingly consistent patterns coming from folks that complain about AA, particularly when they invoke good ol' reverse racism (fun fact, more than once I've watched -- different, even -- people start loudly ranting about that in the middle of a classroom, among other places). If these are strawmen I've been running into entirely too many wizard of oz characters walking around. 'Course there's exceptions and whatnot, but was describing trends as I'm aware of and (even moreso) have encountered (over and over and goddamn over again; mentioning AA or political correctness or anything of that sort in a room full of north floridians is either one of the quicker ways to cause shit to go down I'm aware of or I have been incredibly goddamn unlucky).

There could, of course, always be some regional influence going on. I've been in other parts of the country and talked to plenty of folks from 'em, but I've stayed in a particular one and it's definitely one that's going to make some of this shit more prevalent. Will admit I get irritated enough when folks start saying that whole less qualified spiel I start forgetting proper clarification an' crap. S'the frustration of not being able to say anything about it offline (due to it being either social or literal suicide) coming through.

They don't, generally, but individual employers certainly can be prejudiced in... any direction, really. Frumple seems to be buying into the rhetoric that all employers are racist against backs because ??? and as such it's much harder to get a job without being favoured specifically for your race.
The hell? If that's what came across I've definitely miscommunicated somewhere. The "rhetoric" (and experience) I buy into is that employers regularly demonstrate racist (and others, of course, but we were talking about something specific) biases (particularly if there's not some kind of check on them), not all of 'em and not always, but regularly and prevalently enough to treat the group as a whole. The against blacks thing is relatively US specific, and not entirely limited to that minority group, either.

The reasons are all over the bloody place, and varies from person to person and region to region, so far as the US goes, but it's common enough (and targeted enough) specific attempts to mitigate it is, y'know, often a pretty good idea. Especially when an organization has identified they've actually had a problem in regards to that sort of thing, which is one of the major reasons AA-style programs start getting implemented so far as I'm aware. Lot of folks are going to have a much easier time than they should of passing over people they probably shouldn't have without some kind of conscious effort (be it from themselves or their supervisors or whatever) to arrest the inclination.

... and @MSH, the evopsych comment was because you said there was something clear about evolutionary benefits, which is one of the myriad major things commonly wrong with the field. The second you say there's anything clear about what caused a specific evolutionary trait to develop and maintain is the second you need to stop, go back and go over how evolution works again, and then rethink what you said, because the only way to actually confirm that shit is with a gorram time machine. At least with humans, as of yet, any supposition of that sort is at least as likely to be wrong as it is right. Y'wanna' make the claim off more standard sorts o' psych paradigms or whatev', go right ahead, just leave the evo bullshit and preferably everything that spawned from it out of it.

I think the most common form of "reverse racism" refers to actions such as affirmative action or diversity/gender quotas where there is specific incentives to make businesses or universities prioritize various minority groups over non-minority groups, rather than just accepting people based on their qualifications.
Space. Spaaaaace. Those "common forms of reverse racism" are exactly why the bloody thing is basically entirely bullshit. The entire bloody point of AA and those (barely existent, often explicitly illegal) "quotas" are to get people accepted based on their qualifications. They're implemented because the jackass employers weren't before hand, passing over either equally good or outright better candidates because their skin color was "wrong".

Seriously. Discrimination laws haven't particularly changed. It is, in fact, illegal to pass over a better candidate because of their skin color in almost every field (there's sorta' exceptions in stuff like acting, iirc, or at least much looser enforcement), if everything else is actually equal (note: It's almost never actually equal, but that's neither here nor there). It is not, however, illegal to provide incentive or regulation to make sure the employers are actually doing their goddamn job and not passing over qualified candidates because of their skin tone. Which is what all that shit is!

I wish I didn't know the primary reason why it's so hard for so many people to wrap their goddamn minds around that (Hint: A great number of the people kvetching about that stuff are, in fact, racist! Go figure.), but it's really bloody frustrating regardless. Yes, you twits, it's not fucking impossible for a black guy to be as competent as you, your cousin, or who the hell ever it was that got passed over for the job. *frustrated yelling*

11021
The way he goes about it could certainly have been better thought through. It's not as big a problem, but that doesn't make it not a problem.
... it... really kinda' isn't, though. Most (like, the vast, vast majority of) cries of reverse racism are people pissed they got passed over for a job for someone at least as competent.* Most of its support is just due to certain sorts of folks believing that there's no way a black fellow can be as competent as as white'un, and that obviously if they (or someone they knew) got passed over it had to be reverse racism, not any other thousand reasons folks get shafted during the employment process. Discrimination laws didn't exactly get waived for affirmative action, contrary to what some lots seem to think, for some reason.

*For what anecdotes are worth, this is literally every single time I've actually encountered someone in person griping about running into it (the area I'm in is racist as fuck. It's happened often.). Double-bonus points when the black person that got hired over them was also younger, because there's naturally zero reasons a company would prefer to hire younger workers there's a metric shitton of reasons companies prefer to hire younger workers, starting with "lower starting salary" and cheerfully working its way through a mile long list

I'm, like. 80-90% sure that didn't drive any more votes towards trump than obama being in front of a camera at all did.

... also, how in the hell is that mocking someone? I've listened to talk radio before, and that. That was not mocking. That was barely even blunt compared to the bile those things spew out daily.

For reference, folks that don't want to look at the (unnamed url -- it's a very short snippet from Obama's economy speech on June 1st) youtube video and possible start getting really annoying things junking up their suggested video results,
I bolded the bit from the video itself, to better render said video superfluous. That was the entirety of it, put under the label of "President Obama MOCKS Whites Who Believe in Reverse Racism (6/1/16)". Y'all can see the full transcript here, if you're interested.

Looks like the room fan's starting to go. Was making noises, done it a few times before... was mostly because of hair and such wrapped around things. Cleaned it up again, but now it just won't run at the lowest setting. Other two are... alright, if still making worrying noises, but it's not a particularly good sign regardless. Probably going to try to replace it over the course of the next week or two... bloody room's probably 4-5 degrees hotter than the rest of the house, and that fan's been most of what's been keeping my laptop from melting.

Still. Had a good run. Probably been two, two and a half years of being on significantly more than not. Got probably a good twelve thousand or more hours of operating time out of it over that span of time, which I'm guessing is fairly decent. I am... not easy on fans >_>

Considering if I should open a youtube and twitter account to host a four job fiesta lets play thing, but I've never actualy done such a thing, maybe with a thread on Play With Your Friends and naming characters after randomly picked thread posters, but a side of muh brain says nah.

Wat do?
First make sure your computer is actually capable of recording and uploading, then decide further.

Kurtulmak was eaten by a grue, unfortunately. Very tragic.

E: Goddamnit autocorrect. Quit!

E2: Though of the people I would expect to be able to find and eat kurtulmak (and get away with it), truean is pretty high up on the list. So maybe K was eaten by a true who framed a grue, I'unno.
