General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O
« on: May 25, 2016, 07:44:31 am »
If only reelya paid attention to the number of people that have better job skills in a number of areas when they were six than they do when they're twenty-six... not really disrespect when it is a decent way to help teach skills folks have forgotten they had or never picked up. Also totally don't underestimate six year olds. They are canny if likely short-sighted and somewhat stupid, probably haven't developed a sense of morality, and can smell your fear.

Cooking in general is one of those things that a lot of folks seem to have a terrible time at even doing really bloody simple stuff, so it can be a good place to start. And when you start, it's good to start with the basics, particularly if you have zero clue what the collective skill level of the group is.

Will say it's faintly amusing that you rolled in late to a workshop type thing that was about time management, though, yoink. You showed why it was needed before you even entered, but at least you got something out of it :V

Speaking of chilluns, though, I've learned today that I have a young relative that's convinced there's seaweed in rice candy "Because it's from japan." I... I tried. Didn't quite sink in in the few seconds there was to talk before other stuff came up. Maybe next time I show them where the ingredient list is :-\

Good way to wake up: After watching a flying hypersonic pug dog piledrive a middleschooler into concrete during a grand brawl over cheese products. That's the good stuff.

It is a giant panda with a six shooter.

E: If you want, you can see it in action here. Just search down for, "Yeah, a giant goddamned panda." There's an animated gif just below that point.

Oh aye, aye, he could release. Was just some spokescritter saying he wasn't going to until the claimed audit is over. Something about people being able to scrutinize it :V

As someone with very basic auditing training, by the way, if you're worried the freaking general public is going to catch something the IRS isn't, you have much bigger problems than people scrutinizing your tax forms XD

11166
Oh hey, TV said Trump's stated he'll release tax forms just as soon as the IRS finishes a purported audit.

Considering the IRS legally (so far as I'm aware, anyway) can't disclose basically any information on an individual tax payer, including if they're under audit or, if so, when or if it's done, it's almost cunning, in a sort of hamhanded way. He can lie out his ass and the only people that can call him on it are legally bound not to. Is neat-ish trick, though now that I think on it actually sorta' common, particularly for the conservative side of the spectrum in recent years.

Also one week to go on that stated economic policy deadline. C'moooon next tuesday!

... uh, wasn't maniac talking more about the whole revote and whatnot stuff? Where Sanders supporters were both rather raucous and trying to rejigger the rules and all that mess.

While it might be true on an isolated, local level and while much of the poverty that exists today has roots in racist policies from the last century and thus overly affects minorities, it is pretty clearly a problem that exists among all races to some extent and fixing the economic issues would go a long way to helping fix attitudes in other areas.
It's also incredibly bloody clear that regardless as to if the problems are hitting all racial demographics, they're hitting specific ones very disproportionately harder and in a very much not localized or isolated way. Easing economic issues would indeed help turn back some of the attitudes involved, but they're not even remotely the whole of the problem. The USA really does still have a pretty substantial racism problem. Definitely less than it used to be, by significant margins (the last lynchings are almost out of living memory, iirc! Another decade or three to go.), but you basically have to be very willfully blind not see that shit's still stinking up the place.

11169
... preferring to let his rhetoric blame racial issues on class based ones, you mean. Last I checked, that was most of what pissed minorities off regarding sanders, just being kinda' tone deaf to what's really goddamn clearly issues of racism as least as much as it is anything else, whereas sanders likes to play up the economic side of things fairly substantially. And hey, as you noted, he changed his tune somewhat once people actually started meaningfully complaining about it. Bit late, especially considering clinton's head start in that area, but still.

Credit where it's due -- and it is due, to be clear on it -- but don't oversell sanders on that front, either. He did, actually, kinda' legitimately fuck up insofar as connecting with certain demographics go.

That'd be pretty easy to test, for what it's worth, I do believe. Fairly sure it's not much of a problem to gen up a random map with no forests and >=1 caves. Certainly you can do one with lots and lots of caves, heh. I've actually got a couple laying that's... something like 75%+ cave provinces. Sometimes you want to fight in the shade, y'know?

I'm not even sure it's possible to act badly enough to beat the average sub group at complete shittiness.
Having lived through the nineties, I can tell you with a great deal of surety that they totally, totally can.

11172
Yes because Bernie Sanders is a parasite trying to hijack the democratic party it's unfair for Hillary to have any past with the democratic party.
Average troll
S'also not really an accurate portrayal, as should be fair obvious by the extent of support he has recieved. It's not entirely hijacking when a lot of the bus wanted to take that left, anyway. Coalitions and whatnot are also a thing, and you can't really call it parasitism when it's the system basically working as designed. Bloody parties have been built so that third party candidates basically have to do what Sanders is to get anything worth mentioning done.

Also not an entirely inaccurate one either, though. Sanders is pretty explicitly trying to push the democratic dialogue in a direction that doesn't have majority support. If our election system wasn't as shit as it is at representing chunks of the electorate, he both wouldn't be running democrat and wouldn't need to to get dialogue/representation out there that a lot of the party wants to see, cause he'd be running third party and folks would be able to vote for 'm without running an even greater chance of being functionally disenfranchised than they already are just voting straight ticket.

Also pretty sure m's not trying to rub it in (entirely  anyway, they've been doing that explicitly, occasionally, too), just pissed people keep trying to frame the victory as illegitimate rather than actually what more people in the party they're campaigning for wants. And the latter really does seem to be what's happening. I don't think there'd be near as much griping if people were just lamenting the loss.

It could be!

... mostly just a sniping at each other thing, at least insofar as intent went. Still, some of the best puns one can make are the unintentional ones.

... okay, so was the OP a joke, or what? Near as I've been able to tell over the last few minutes of checking, the election was basically neck and neck, and the guy that came out ahead didn't do it because of a rigged vote, but instead because his opponent was even more of a colossal shit than he is (which, uh. Now that I check who was running, that doesn't come as much of a surprise).

Incidentally, I've able to find literally zero corroborating english news articles, from any source, making the claim of the elections being actually rigged. Can someone actually provide for that, or is this just going to be Simo Häyhä's spontaneous mutual masturbation session, It Came From Twitter edition?

Folks've been ragging on clinton a lot longer and a lot louder than they've been ragging on sanders, OW. There's a lot of folks out there that believe that, while sanders may be a crazy commie thing, clinton is literally the devil's flaming scrotum come for their women.
