I mean, I've beaten Starward Rogue at the highest difficulty... with the redshift, which by default dies in one to two hits, but gives you all the time in the world to figure out what you need to do. It's not really a matter of understanding, so much as processing what you understand fast enough to react at the pace the game is asking for with the precision it's asking for.

Some folks by and large just can't do it beyond a point that's often enough well below what the kinds of games in question consider normal or easy. Slowing it down can make it so that sort of fellow can go from getting stomped on the lowest difficulties (basically stonewalled out of the genre) to successfully navigating the patterns thrown at them on the hardest.

I've tried a number (not hundreds, but probably more than thirty or forty, heh) of bullet hells or otherwise high-ish difficulty shmups over the years, most of it before I figured out how to slow them down manually. I'm well aware of what would and wouldn't surprise me at this point :P

But yeah, having a slowdown option in game is great. Not enough of the things do that, and there's precious few of those that do that give you enough granularity to really adjust it to fit everyone. Ideally they'd all have an option that bottoms out at Redshift/simultaneous movement and sliders its way up to TAS-only, but until then third party programs open the way :D

It is, in fact, possible to have good handwriting without someone smacking your hand over every mistake.
For some people, anyway :-\

It's pretty apt to the thread when you spend over a decade investing several hours a week trying to improve your handwriting and it just doesn't, though. Typing is a hell of an equalizer when it comes to non-vocal communication. Not a perfect one, but it's better than anything involving motor control as fine as handwriting requires.

I seems to be the way of modern AAA games for some reason.
If by modern you mean "newer than DOS", yes :P

The major developers have had trouble on that front since it was a front you could have trouble on, heh. Turns out netcode can be hard no matter how much money you throw at it, I guess...

New to bullet-hells? Don't worry. Most of the infamy of that genre comes from pros uploading videos of themselves beating the game on max difficulty. Bullet-hells are designed for the average player with a reasonable difficulty curve, like any other game.
Idle thing re: shmups/bullet hells, but one thing that can open them up for a wider audience than they might normally see, is just plain old slowdown. Cheat Engine has it as a built-in option (speedhack) these days, and there's dedicated programs such as Battle Encoder Shirase out there for similar functionality. It can take a frantic game that just kicks you sideways without any real chance to resist (a quick look at a normal difficulty playthrough of Zero Ranger indicates it would absolutely kick my ass sideways, heh -- I'd have trouble getting past the first boss, nevermind the second or anything beyond it) into something tolerably difficult, just by cutting the game's speed to three quarters or a half or whatever.

It's a blessing for folks that might be interested in a lot of what's going on in that type of game, but just can't react fast enough to keep up with the default design.

... also cheers EA, gonna' try me some pinball mailbug metroidvania now :D

I still think using AI for writing is cheating, also aren't there books filled with names you could look at?
If using AI for writing is cheating, so is using an editor or asking for feedback from other people. Lotta' writing cheaters out there :P

It's 20% alcohol by weight. Consume enough of it and it'll taste good on anything.

If we're lucky this means we go back to writing by hand instead of keyboard.
Better the world end in fire than for everyone to have everyone else's handwriting regularly inflicted upon them once again. The world may have spun before typing existed, but it spun as a hell worse than the modern day.

The general term that's been coined is "flaccid cyberpunk future". It's got basically all the fancy trimmings of cyberpunk, it's just... not erect. Y'know? At "best" we're the shitty backstory foundation just starting to get initial cyberware going, before it gets pervasive enough to be ubiquitous. Instead of fancy floating neon signs and ads piping through the matrix, there's an incessant stream of asshole push ad notifications to a device in your pocket.

is feb. 2019 not before November 22, 2019?
Maybe it isn't on a leap year? Those are strange, who knows what they do to calendar arrangements. what do you mean that wasn't a leap year, everyone knows leap years discombobulate surrounding years, too

... anyway, my drawing was real easy since there was one person between two games, so!

Del gets pillars, shadowrun trilogy is orphaned. I'll shoot the key to del in a second or two, hopefully there won't be any region related issues.

I'll roll for shadowrun and pillars in about five hours, I think -- around 6 CST. If anyone wants to actually make it a roll instead of the current state, you've got a little bit of time :P

A weapon to surpass metal gear!

Forreal tho, I kinda want a fighting game made out of this silly concept. Freshen up the fighting game genre with something truly wild and out there.
I'm pretty sure they are out there? There's at least one 3d fighting game that has construction vehicles as its characters, ferex, though I've forgotten the name of it. Even if you don't get into stuff like Mugen, folks have gone pretty far out with fighting games.
