Other Games / Re: Dominions 4: Thrones of Ascension

One primary god, that determines the scales (and any dominion effects) and blessings. X number of 'disciples' who can choose magic paths, which are basically prophets (with a pretender chassis) without the holy levels that can be called back like a normal god and claim thrones. You all push the same dominion. You can relinquish provinces to allies and sitesearch allied provinces, though you can't build on them (you can, however, have them relinquish the province to you, you build the building, and then hand the province back). Most (beneficial/dominion effect) global enchantments effect all allies instead of just the nation casting it. That's... really about it insofar as mechanical differences go, so far as I can recall.

Beyond the mechanical differences, it's like having an enforced permanent alliance that can actually share a victory. Adds a lot to the playing experience, in my experience, having people that actually are guaranteed to have your back, that you can bounce ideas off of and coordinate with without trouble, etc., etc.

Personally, I'd say it's a fairly substantial improvement over the base mode of play. Adds a lot to the game in terms of interactions and whatnot, and generally makes it more fun/interesting/engaging/etc. It's good stuff, and I'd totally recommend it.

... being somewhat familiar on a personal level with political figures that are only somewhat below the totem pole than the current candidates, I can quite assure you that political figures such as the ones running and those of similar position are most definitely capable of being racist like goddamn. Sometimes less overt about it than dropping racial slurs every other word when talking about minorities, but no less horrible for it, especially when combined with power outside of the immediately personal.

We do no justice to continuing to undermine the effects of racism by turning our heads away from the ones in power that are more careful about their expression of it.

I don't think any of obama's detractors, left or right, on any issue, actually remember biden exists, smj. Like, he's sorta' there for photo ops, maybe, and that seems to be it.

Hell, I would have liked more out of the guy, too, but I'm not going to shit on what he's managed, nor say that a second iteration would be bad. We would have some pretty substantial progress on a number of pretty hefty issues if we kept his status quo rolling. Maybe less good than possible(and I've said before, I do believe, that I'm not entirely sure bernie would actually be better, on the net), but those are two rather different things. Even a fairly worse, in comparison, go at it would still be pretty bearable for 4-8 years, t'me. Certainly better than the conservative possibilities.

Sure, there's stuff happening I'd much rather we reversed direction on (privacy, military adventurism, etc., etc.), but I can't see clinton doing worse on most of that than just about anyone else running. Bernie'd be about the only current candidate that would possibly manage that, and he'd come with his own likely suite of problems.

And yeah, E, RK has been a bit... call it uncouth? Something like that. Hunger keeps me from a better word. In reference to clinton.

Mmhmm. I started playing Dom 3, iirc after seeing some AAR type things in gaming magazines, like... y'know, a decade ago. Somewhere in that range, not too terribly long after it was first released. Looked really bloody interesting, so I checked it out. Finally actually bought it sometime after Illwinter dumped shrapnel and started actually selling the game at a price I could justify buying it at, heh. Got into dom 4 just as soon as it got enough of a discount I could justify it to myself, at a higher price than I'll buy most games these days, heh.

Mechanics wise, y'just tool around till you get used to it, really. I played a lot of AI games -- I don't think I ever actually played a Dom 3 multiplayer game, despite playing the game itself for years -- messed around with mods, etc., etc. Eventually got around to playing a few MP games in Dom 4, still tool around with neat mods when they show up, et al.

Outside of just playing, I'd totally recommend checking out LPs (there's one or two over on the LP archive), looking around the net for after-action-reports and whatnot, just kinda' seeing how other people play and how they explain things to folks. You can learn a lot that way, heh, and even if you don't they're often fun to read :V

If I had to choose I'd go with Bernie but I wouldn't mind Clinton too. Seriously, why a President Hillary CLinton would be that bad?
She most likely wouldn't be, really. Most signs point to her probably being about as "bad" as Obama, who... did pretty alright. Not as good as a lot of people would prefer, but not bad in most areas. Even on that change front a lot of people felt/still feel he was badly stymied on... dude got some work done, if a lot of it pretty low-key.

Mostly what you're running into is a lot of propaganda/built up vitriol/personal dislike, etc., etc, more than her actually being some kind of nightmare scenario. I couldn't really tell you exactly why folks are saying if not!bernie then trump, though, other than either tongue-in-cheek or (hopefully) temporary insanity. Maybe a bit of (incredibly) childish 'If I don't get what I want, fuck everyone' sentiment. Some of that incredibly stupid sentiment that you have to burn everything down to fix a problem. Probably some general dislike for the party establishments. Not really a single 'reason', just a bunch of different ones leading to communal suicide.

I saw that edit =_=

Also no, not a good approach. Rhetorical questions should be used sparingly, if at all.

11708
Y'all are hilarious with your double standards.
Not... really? There's not a double standard in "No one is yelling, and then someone is yelling." Which is what people are getting concerned about, toad-wise. Rudeness ain't what people are particularly concerned about, it's responses getting inflamed beyond reason.

... and I wouldn't really call it disingenuous. From what I've seen the sides aren't exactly identical, but largely equivalent in their asshole/tone-deaf/etc. contingent... yeah. There's certainly significantly more similarities than differences (which, hell, isn't really that much of a surprise considering they're both going after fairly similar demographics).

Not from what I recall, no, socrates wasn't particularly well known for asking people to be polite. Forget exactly which one it was, but at least one of the big three (Aristotle/plato/socrates) was known for being something of a jackass. Fairly sure it was socrates that was the illiterate psuedo-hobo that yelled at people in the marketplaces, though.

Also smj, you've got it backwards -- M's trying to call others out on what they perceive as rudeness.

11710
I'd feel confused that you're misgendering Bernie Sanders, but also not really affected given that he is neither irrational, nor demagogic, nor a shithead. Really just the opposite of all those things, actively.
Nnnooo, bernie kinda' is both irrational (on a few subjects) and demagogic (very much so, the guy's an outright populist). Shithead, at least, not so much, but neither is clinton by any reasonable definition of the term. They both manage to mostly be inoffensive insofar as that goes, and they've both got massive jackasses on their side of the grassroots, so... yeah.

Plenty of videos out there at this point, if you want to see a few. From what I've seen it's a bit of both -- the combat system's fairly action/player skill oriented, but levels et al do make a pretty substantial difference. If you're talking about progression wise (leveling skills vs. leveling character), it appears to be level based -- you definitely gain levels on a character basis, though I'm not really sure if there's individual skills you up as well (and if so, how you go about it).

There does seem to be a fair amount of fairly interesting stuff going on, too, non-combat wise, as well as alternate/parallel progression routes through such things.

... that said, everything I've heard tell about it says the game's very much in the style of your average korean grinding MMO. Quite possibly one of the better/best examples thereof, but... yeah. There's grind. Kinda' interesting to watch vids, but... no interest in actually playing, m'self. Also it's so goddamn pretty I'm fairly sure I couldn't even if I wanted to :P

How big a house would you need to qualify for the "all of them" route, anyway?

11715
Yeeaaaah, I can't think of much going on in this political cycle that would be more interesting to the public at large than clinton actually having a substantial chance of being indicted.

Trump tearing off his face on stage to reveal he's been a xenomorph in a skinsuit this whole time, caught on live television and verified as a non-hoax by multiple scientists of good credit, would be an example of such a story.
