General Discussion / Re: Fanfic Recomendations

Bit of a boot to wake it up, and mostly just some SB recs (which is to say, easy to find), but I've been enjoying this, lately. Oregairu/Danmachi crossover, quite fun, updating fairly consistently.

This's also been fairly fun -- Worm/Castlevania crossover, where taylor gets saddled with dracula's... well, pretty much everything.

Also pretty great -- One Piece SI that actually manages to be fairly enjoyable.

Anywaaay. Arise, thread, etc., etc.

Heeeey. Someone remind me, for disciple games, is there any way to filter things so each team is under a single flag/color?

Yeah, sadly the trend is blowing over to the US indeed. Sorry, I had temporary blocked Trump from memory for comfort reasons.
Eh, to be fair to trump, the sentiment was already there, it just tended to simmer mostly below the surface, working through talk radio and whatnot. Trend was here before the cross atlantic stuff started kicking up, and had already been here for quite a while. Mostly just more diffuse, and perhaps less pressure on it.

There is probably some feedback going on both ways, though.

It hasn't gotten to the same level as Europe yet, but it's definitely there.
Probably important to note proportionality, here, ha. US may have a relatively smaller issue with that sort of thing, but "relatively smaller" also means "with a supporting population larger than several european countries" when you're talking about the US. They're just not quite as bunched up.

... mart, in case you haven't noticed, we've actually got a fairly substantial amount of support over here for fairly rabid racist/populist rhetoric. Probably not as organized or concentrated -- and I'd blame that, at least, on geography more than polarization -- but we definitely get a substantial amount of people in our political positions that run on more or less the same sort of platform. It's not really a side issue, unfortunately.

The issue *is* religion and culture, and a specific religion and culture, and this is neither racist or right-wing to observe.
Nah, the racist and right-wing part of it is the complete or near complete lack of differentiation between the religions and cultures involved. The groups you've been talking about would be catching a lot less flak if they were actually holding issue against a specific religion or culture. But they're not, or at least seem to be doing just about everything in their power to act like they aren't.

And morg, you'll note that most folks (all of two them, though you have to dig back a 'lil to find helg's mention of it) that have been noting pegida's nazi relations have also been noting, y'know, the other problems involved with them. Also not so sure I'd agree with you on that average person bit -- most relatively sane folks I know wouldn't saddle up to one of the KKK-lite groups just because they were demonstrating for something they're in favor of. Maybe things are less polarized when it comes to stuff of that nature in the EU, I'unno.

... well, it doesn't help that you've been speaking in more-or-less support of an anti-refugee, anti-immigrant, heavily racist, bordering-extremist right-wing political group, k. If you're actually wondering about the how.

... yeah, if you had paid the least bit of attention to what pediga actually does, you'd know most of their stuff isn't particularly about reacting against religious violence, though that's at times part of it/used as an excuse. They're anti-islam, not anti-religion, with a very heavy (and getting heavier as time passes) dose of racism, xenophobia, and anti-immigration sentiment. Calling them an anti-religious protest group is whitewashing the hell out of what they're about.

Don't even have to be in/near germany to pick up that much, they're pretty blatant about it.

There is a thread, actually. More than one, even. They're just in the right subforum (you want Other Games :P) and rather dead, ha.

Incidentally, there should be a move topic button somewhere or another. You can shift the thread over to OG with that, and get the game the attention it may deserve, heh.

Don't believe OW is saying it's a unique phenomena. Just noting it's a common thing for christians, which is... pretty true. One of the more notable points of contention its various sects have with other ideologies, really. Christian inability to recognize other moral codes as valid is rather frustrating, at times, heh. Fortunately a fair number that don't think like that, but... a lot, do. Quite a lot.

Scientifically, we're all animals. But you were also born human, and as such are superior to beasts and fish and so on, even if you don't acknowledge it.
That... depends a hell of a lot on what you consider "superior" to mean. We're definitely better than most at a few things, mostly boiling down to communication and building from that, and a bit of (specific sorts of) endurance and hand/eye coordination, but we're categorically worse in most other ways and even in many of the fields outside of communication, we're fairly regularly outperformed by a number of other species. We're also not even remotely the dominate form of life on the planet, that particular mantle falling mostly on various sorts of bacteria, with a side of insects and fish.

Superior's not really the word I'd use, m'self. We've got a helluva' hat trick that we've used to arguably good effect, but as an animal qua animal we're easily identifiable as not terribly impressive. We're less good than we are least bad with a solid degree of coordination. Being fair, aggressively mediocre counts for a lot, but I'm damn sure not going to walk up to the hungry shark and say I'm the better swimmer, y'know?

... though it's probably worth noting regarding the morality aspect, that command-based ethics (which is what christian morality is) is generally, uh. Not considered superior ones. The problems involved with it(s simplistic nature) are well traveled, really...

... man, someone remind me. Is there anything like CoE4's dopplegangers in Dom4? Something with a similar "Covert enemy units into an ever growing mass of regenerating chaff from range" thing going on. That... does it more passively than enslave or whatev'.

I vaguely recall some undead shenanigans along those lines -- conversion into souless -- but from what I remember most of them don't really stick around. Wondering if there's something out there that can actually reliably pull the trick to build up a chaff horde.

No? Not necessarily, anyway. Abnormal morality in no substantial way guarantees a difficulty with experiencing normal perception, or engaging in normal behaviors and social interactions. Someone with them may have unusual behavior patterns or means of interaction on top of the usual, but that doesn't in and of itself entail they have any trouble in regards to normal behavior.

Depends a lot on the abnormal set of morals, of course, but still.

E: Speaking of insanity, it appears that Texas has gone through with a law that bars state-run psychiatric hospitals from disallowing weapons on their premises. I'll just, uh. I'll be going around texas if I go west anytime soon. Originating report seems to be behind a paywall, so have the second google hit.

E2: I think that quoted republican response might be the best/worst part of it. "It's up to the hospitals to keep dangerous weapons away from their patients," says Gun-nut Politician, in support of a law legally barring hospitals from keeping dangerous weapons away from their patients.

It's like a gunpowder huffing madman's first attempt at a game of riddles.

Heh, I was just checking the mod viewer for the assassin tag. Night lords (and their troop counterpart) doesn't even show up in it, for me :P

... in any case that's two abstain, one against, and, uh. Everyone else absent :V C'mon folks, speak up!
