Plenty of men like and wear (sometimes excessive amounts of) shiny shit, it just tends not to be via glitter and whatnot,* even if Elvis sequined his ass up. Plenty of jewelery, there's subsets that chrome goddamn everything, so on and so forth. Different shinies, but still shinies. Also proxy shinies via genitalia replacements vehicles and guns and crap, which is a behavior that's somewhat less culturally indoctrinated in most places as acceptable for the ladies.

* Not that there's anything wrong with glitter, mind, besides how much of a goddamn nightmare it is to get it out of things.

Fie and humbug on your ruddy claims. If you're going to bounce between avatars like a drunken unicorn, you might as well go whole hogwhisky and set up a rotator and use all of them.

*encore backflip* Cheers, LoS!

Now I have to figure out how to fit the new stuff on the computer, ahaha. Maybe if I delete that photoshop copy I've had sitting around uninstalled for nearly three years now...?

Seems to be something between being with friends and imbibing enough of the throat burning goo they can no longer tell what they're doing is boring as hell. Maybe a bit of mutual expression of (lack of) physical skills -- that's actually mildly interesting, some days. Sometimes (mutual) enjoyment of music! Sounds like you went to a bowling alley, though, which generally isn't your prototypical musical venue, so probably not that. Occasionally just because of consistent cultural indoctrination that such activities are to be performed or else (else generally being social ostracisation or somethin'). All sorts of reasons, really.

Yeah that certainly is a trait of old people.
I think it hits harder when it's old people, though. Some kind of implicit assumption something that has managed to not get itself killed for so long would know better, maybe?

There's a sort of sterotype that youngin's are expected to be like that, but it comes with a sort of implied promise the problem sorts itself out with age. When it doesn't, not only are you dealing with someone that acts/thinks like that, you're also dealing with something that's basically a betrayal of your socially inculcated view of reality. Double whammy type of thing.

Okay. So, "pay me in sex" == fine and dandy, "i'll pay you in sex" == prostitution and terrible? Weird.
Not quite. "I'll pay you who are asking for money in sex" == prostitution and illegal. Presumably if the driving instructor was asking for renumeration in kumquats, it would be legal to attempt to renegotiate to screwing. Kinda' seems like the law there is pretty specific it's gotta' be money instead of something else to count as prostitution.

I was too lazy to figure out if there was an alternative to applocale and try it. It's pretty painless to just change the system's region, so I did, and I haven't had much reason to change it back, yet. Everything still mostly works and is readable, and the game I've been playing is still being played, so... yeah.

E: Also, interesting reasoning. Wouldn't work in the US, I do believe -- even non-monetary transactions are more or less considered monetary ones so far as the legal/tax framework goes. You're actually supposed to report income if a friend or whatev' hops over and fixes your car or somethin', not that anyone does it.

In order:

"Money"

"Playing game"

"Applocale doesn't work for that game"

No, being able to get to sleep. You can run fl.ux to change the color temperature of the display in Windows but it won't change LEDs, obviously.
f.lux*

physician, heal thyself

Also, I just noticed f.lux apparently doesn't quite work right when you're running with the region set to japan, at least on vista. It works, but it doesn't show up in the taskbar corner whatsit and it doesn't seem like you can pull up its finagling box via other means. Odd.

Yeah, solstice has significance in pretty close to every religion. It's basically why christmas is when it is, ferex, and tends to have varying celebrations the world over. The solstices/equinoxes in general do, really, though winter seems to generally be the biggest one (presumably because it's the one that happens when the people are least likely to have something else to do :P).

Bit of a shame it's not going to be colder where I'm at -- tomorrow actually signifies the temperature getting back into the 70s :-\

Always with the dichotomies... why can it not be both?

12148
That... sounds a lot like Deadlock or its sequel, actually.

12149
Because there's no stateside call for the complete extermination of muslims and Israel has no history of aggression and/or terrorist acts, of course ::)

Yes, yes, they're not ˾literally identical practices. ̚ Just close enough in sentiment and execution the parallels are more than a little obvious. And I guess, being fair, the US hasn't actually gone through with a blanket ban against a religious/ethnic group! Yet.

It's still morbidly amusing to see a country with large swaths of the population calling for exactly what kuwait is doing making a fuss about it. Hell, if the polls are even remotely resembling representative there's more people in the US that's professing support for that kind of behavior than kuwait has people, period.

Mind, m'not exactly saying kuwait shouldn't be shit on from on high for the practice, but still. S'maybe just a wee bit of hypocrisy going on.
