General Discussion / Re: I deleted twitter and you should too

I'unno, I think the more accurate statement might be "better off without for-profit social media". Lot of the problems we have with it trace back to issues involving monetization. It might be a better situation if that just... wasn't there.

So I tried the realm mode thing for the first time. Party on whatever it is below highest difficulty, basically got my face knocked in repeatedly for a bit.

Said, okay. This isn't working, let's try solo. Knock the difficulty down a notch, it'd be reasonable for solo run to be harder, right?

... Kudo just goes, "I'm not here to be reasonable, my friend, I am here to fuck."

Straight crushes his way through everything in his path, only once goes down to half health (that, for all of one turn, by that point he had like 30-40 hp worth of healing in his deck). Clean sweep wrecked the whole run, apparently put me sixth (fourth, if you don't count endless runs) on the weekly leaderboard for solo hard mode.

Turns out, solo is probably easier than a party is, and it's a pretty nice experience :P

Yeah, I don't think it's, like, optimal toss damage, but it's something usually slower than the golem, usually within range of the golem, and comes with a guaranteed at-least-two attacks in their hand, every time. Spirit bears are a remarkably reliable toss target, especially early on.

Friendly reminder that I still average just under 5 posts here a day, and it's been a decade.
I'm just a little over 5, and it's been a decade and a half. It's apparently a fairly comfortable posting rate, heh.

I mean, we can call this the religion thread if we feel like it.

We'd be wrong, but hey, that'd be not!thread appropriate :P

E: ... anyway, to make something thread appropriate, in Gordian Quest I just now fully comprehended that my bear does less damage than my golem does throwing the bear at things.

Any game that has a damage optimization process include "Your highest DPS in this case is to literally throw the bear at them." has my at least tentative approval.

It's reasonable when you think about it, really. What hurts more, getting clawed by a bear or having a presumably 600+ pound magic grizzly chucked into you? One tears the skin, the other pulps whatever it hits!

I wonder how people would feel if the sun suddenly grew a face?

I can’t imagine many would notice.
Not immediately, anyway. Once the astronomers noticed and started screaming at people that something incredibly strange has happened, more folks would figure it out.

Exactly what the overall response would be would have a lot to do with what the sun did with its new face, though.

All the time, ha. Though it's mostly exhaustion from trying to take care of a dementia patient and my own problems in my case, not what you've been describing that sounds like persistent abuse :-\

Yeah, somewhere around 150 or so last count I noticed. Looks like a crowd crush event, those things are thoroughly thread appropriate.

Wait, what?  People are intentionally jumping in front of cars basically for what amounts to a dare?

Is it bad that I have no sympathy for these people? I can't imagine how I'd feel as a driver if some random person intentionally tried to get me to hit them, let alone succeeded...  :o :'(
I mean, basically exactly that is what killed peer pressure  for me (because it nearly killed me first) when I was a kid, early teens or late pre-teens. Went on a school trip with a bunch of highschoolers and they convinced me to run across an active street, came within (tiny kid) arm's reach of an oncoming van. If I had been just a little slower or the van a little faster, they would have turned a 10-ish year old into roadkill. If it's youngins doing it, I have very personal sympathy for them, heh.

... if they're much older than that, though, yeah, they're being suicidally stupid and probably should know better. Still, peer pressure is a damn strong thing at times.

No, it basically is GOP and their political allies. The incidence rate of right wing to not-right wing terrorism/political violence in the US is... not equitable. Even a little, if you want to see some of the numbers involved -- far as I'm aware they're similarly slanted in regards to shit that doesn't actually have a body count.

The political landscape is fucked, but make no mistake that fuckery is coming primarily from a specific direction and not to a small degree.

That qualifies as an assassination attempt, right? This just happens now?

It's sad and disturbing.
Chatter was noting it was the second one (noticed by the public) on pelosi this year, for that matter. Haven't bothered to double check it, though.

So yeah. Pelosi's husband appears to be in the hospital after someone broke into their california home looking for her.

You'd initially think it pretty reasonable, that for all this free entertainment and information, that giving up a little time to adverts is a reasonable trade. But they aren't just asking for your time, they want your fucking soul and sanity. Banishing these motherfuckers to the bottommost ring of hell is only appropriate.
Soul, sanity, system stability -- I'd have more tolerance for the things if they didn't fucking crash my browsers as often as they do. The stuff that makes "good" ads from the perspective of the advertiser is a goddamn assault from the perspective of the rest of us a lot of the time, and if you're going to attack people you got no one but yourself to blame when they fight back :-\

And fired all of the old executives, as one does in a corporate takeover.
Last I saw chatter his plan was to fire like 75% of twitter's workforce, so it'd make sense some of the execs got caught too.

Any case, standard reminder the healthy way to interact with twitter is "Don't." That won't change with musk taking over, ha.

I thought he wanted to back out, like a would-be groom with cold feet?
I mean he seemed to want to, but he fucked up so hard that ended up not really being an option :P
