Its like how fanfic is an endless pile of books, though with art and remixes instead.
Hey now, touhou's more than art and remixes. There's fanfics (some pretty damn good!) and doujin/fan games (ditto), too. Runs pretty much the entire gamut of fan created material. Majority of it's definitely art (and 'art') and remixes, though, yeah.

... there's also the actual games, I guess. Supposedly one of the more competent bullet hell shmups out there, to whoever it was questioning in the quality. Never played any of 'em (and never will), haven't and won't play enough bullet hells to be able to make a legitimate comparative evaluation, so I can't really say, but they're held in decent regard by folks that have. Not the best, but approaching it.

... smegma is obscure and creative?

I mean, in comparison, I guess? I run into the word way too often to consider it either of those, though...

though huh, it looks like opera's spellcheck doesn't recognize it as a word. Let's... fix that.

Could always add more ways to shift difficulty, though :P Or consider it for the next game, I guess.

Games like this, one of the fun (/brutal) ways is to give enemies access to more abilities and whatnot. That's one of the primary ways ToME 4, as an example, increases difficulty -- giving certain enemies player class talents, increasing strength and breadth of talents available, etc. Prefix/suffix stuff ala the diablo diable (or similar means, ala Portralis and its elite/boss monsters that get certain effects from a particular list) are a similar sort of direction to go.

Randomized/increased amount of environmental challenges is another method that doesn't involve straight number boosts. Increased numbers of enemies is a standard go-to. Reduced amount of player units is another one (extra bonus points -- you can make the one(s) removed from play randomized each fight, so you can't rely on any particular member of your party). Force-randomized class/race/ability choices is another one that can be fun.

I've been long appreciative of weird gameplay changes as a means of adjusting difficulty, too. Stuff like a pinball mode where everything inflicts knockback and your primary means of damage is ricocheting enemies off walls/environmental obstacles/each other. There's a lot you can do to shift things up that doesn't involve just stat mods or smarter enemies, heh (though the latter in particular helps a lot).

... despite my complete lack of interest in the vocaloid stuff, looking at that art...

... am I the only one that thinks that looks passably like someone took ruby and yang from RWBY and mashed them together?

A game needs music, sound effects, art, UI design, writing and programming, and a whole host of other things.
Fixed~ There's plenty of games out there that get played that have no sound and placeholder/ascii/no (in the case of text-based games) graphics. Sound especially... personally play almost every game muted, and m'not exactly alone in that.

And even the rest of it is conditional to computer games. Other sorts don't require any of that, except maybe the UI design (see, ferex, rock-paper-scissors). All a game really needs is some sort of system, and even that can be hella' loose.

Though yeah, echo skyru. The programming bits are anything but easy to the vast majority of people, and idea/art people are usually kinda' trivial to find if you actually having the coding chops to build something. Gods know if programming was easy instead of literally headache inducing I'd have already spat out any dozen things by now, game wise :-\

What game?
quote the post if you can't see the alt-text. It's in there, but apparently some browsers can't handle its splendor.

Playing game. Walk onto stage with old priest looking dude and a fairly huge posse of mooks. Priest cheerfully invites us to glorious battle. Starts spinning. Character portrait turns into
Day == made.

I... don't think it's uncommon knowledge, at least? It's not like the things are hard to find, and they're used in a lot of home improvement type situations. Most people I know have used one at some point, but most people I know have also grown up in rural or near-rural areas where incidental home repairs or improvements are (mostly) done in-house, so to speak.

It's one of the few distinct musical styles that have actually originated from the states, yeah.

Not really niche listening, though, especially the smooth stuff. It's almost omnipresent as background/elevator music in the US.

Latest gamer chapter. I'm not sure the author is doing it intentionally, but it's kinda' amazing what sort of decision making using wisdom as a dump stat results in.

"Today's best idea! Let's turn a random high school student I barely know into a walking arcane artillery platform! Nothing can go wrong."

I think I am the first in the thread to mention Fall from Heaven 2, still probably the best fantasy 4x out there, especially with the mod mod Master of Mana.
Second reply to the thread mentioned Master of Mana :P

But yeah, lotta' folks have mentioned that or one of the FfH variations. Me as well, they're great stuff.

So... any thoughts/ETA on a demo? Looks interesting (though I probably can't justify spending the current price, heh -- limited funds, can get other things I'd enjoy too for less, etc., etc.), but I've learned the hard way over the years that buying something without actually checking to see if it can run on the computer you have access to is... somewhat unwise, heh. And listed system requirements et al are an imprecise measure at the best of the times :P

... can ignore my extension request for next turn, especially considering the one this turn. M'good.

So, here's a video game mechanic idea. One of those sidescroller beat 'em up things, but the hero's only attack is the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. The object of the game is to find each enemy's timing so that you can use it without getting interrupted, and then get them to walk the requisite 5 steps.
... so basically One Finger Death Punch? Just... slower, I guess. Maybe.
