General Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Technological Immortality
« on: October 29, 2015, 09:57:38 pm »
If a method was invented that could allow for the uploading of your consciousness to a digital format and had been proven to work, but the process would result in the destruction of the organic brain as a consequence of getting all the required information, at what point, if ever would you take advantage of this technology?
Pretty much as soon as it was sufficiently accessible I could get at it. Fuck human biology. Give me an out that guarantees something vaguely resembling me gets left behind and I'll take it, right here, right now.

I'd take brain in a machine pretty well, too, methinks. Whatever it takes to trade up from this goddamn flesh sack and its genetic fuckery.

because this is the de facto general us thread because we don't actually have one for some reason I'm going to put this here.

Wanna' say the youngest still on the books as legal is 14? Something like that. Forget which state(s) it is. Law books haven't exactly been hiding that marriage can occur below the age of consent, heh.

Parental consent part is probably the most morbidly amusing part of it, I think, to me. Go figure, you strip fundamental rights from someone and legally consider them what amounts to subhuman, and some of them get legally screwed over. Who would have thunk?

In other room. Hear commercial in different room loudly proclaim "Love dick!" Full on imperative, no hesitation, all command.

I... I guess it was trying to say loved it, or love this? but. it didn't

Supposedly it was confirmed on the livestream announcement that the idols will not be pilots, though the plot summary does mention a "tactical sound division"
They do kinda' look like they could be slaaneshi...

... I'll be honest, I'd actually watch if those ten were, in fact, noise marines.

Preemptively requesting an extension on the next turn (not this one, I've already got that in) -- 12h should be plenty, and probably won't be needed, but better safe than stale. Got an appointment coming up tomorrow that might interfere afterwards for a day or so.

To be fair though, as far as gaming goes, Bestiality got it's start in Mortal Kombat (2 or 3) as an alternative finisher.
it... it did not. You're thinking animality. Notably different word.

Now hold up on that agreement thing. I didn't actually say the interactions between cultures and characters was worth watching, or that I actually still did. Got through the manga up to the point they had reached translating it at the time (spending most of the time boggling at the thing more than anything), and have not had the singlemost iota of remaining interest in partaking of the series since :P

Mostly just curious at this point to how the mediums differ, really, because the manga was not TV (/B12 forum guidelines) safe and apparently the LNs (assuming FD's actually read the things, because gods know I won't be doing it) are even worse.

Its premise is faintly interesting, and the art is pretty decent, but I'd roughly call everything else about it either incredibly bog-standard milwank or just kinda' bad. And the anime is probably the only thing it's offering that doesn't violate the forum ToS, ha.

... speaking of which, now that I remember that it's probably time for me to stop talking about the thing.

No, no, you should do the proper response and blame trump for not preventing the farce in its entirety. He touched it, now he's to blame. That's how it works.

But what if I want to spend money and waste time playing candy crush to look at mediocre porn?
You're welcome to, but please invest in headphones and perhaps expend some effort to avoid vocalization while playing >_>

Does kinda' sound like it, looking at the wiki page. Huh.

Sales thread has informed me gog has apparently rolled out the Dark Sun games. Won't be getting them now, but when a sale comes around... oh yes. Easy though they are to yarhar, I'd really like a more licit version again, heh. Loved the first game, actually completed it despite losing a playthrough something like 80-90% of the way through to a game-ending bug and having to start over. Be nice to give it a new go... maybe even actually get in to the sequel this time.

I haven't played or seen the Dark Sun series to comment on it. Though from images they seem rather similar to the Ravenloft series. At least mechanically.
The first one is pretty excellent, imo. It's probably my personal baseline for "This is how a party-based cRPG should play" and the storyline and whatnot wasn't entirely terrible -- I have a pretty much eternal love for the dark sun setting because of that game. Pretty heavily recommended if you can stand playing that era and style of game, heh. Engaging combat for that time period, rather interesting setting that lends itself to a quite neat magic/ability system (relative to the time, at least, and imo) and some non-standard races (thri-keen!), just a bunch of really nice stuff.

The second one I've tried to start and stopped very shortly after several times... something about the graphics just throws me off really bad, makes it hard for me to play. Supposedly it's largely the better of the two, though, if more unstable, iirc.

They're mechanically pretty much nothing like the ravenloft series, though. They're top down, heh, among other things. E2: One of the reviews actually nails it pretty well -- the two games are pretty close to the immediate precursor to Baldur's Gate. Entirely turn-based instead of real-time w/ pause, but otherwise definitely in the same vein (or rather BG is in the same vein as Dark Sun, heh).

E: Also jeez, those reviews on gog. It seems people agree with me :V

The earthside political situation in gate's manga adaptation was so throwaway I literally don't remember any of the specifics, much less the scene you're talking about, FD :P

Barely even remember broadstrokes beyond the normal milwank "And now everyone besides protag faction is some combination of incompetent and caricature," really.

I think he was trying to get the fuck off that question as quick as possible because he knew he has low credibility on that topic.
... trump has started giving a rathis hair's ass about credibility?

... being fair to gate, at least re: the manga, the JSDF involved battles kinda' aren't the point. They're curbstomps, over quickly, and with frankly little focus even in regards to their impact on the general socio-political situation. There's some shock and awe, but not much actual screen time/page space. Beyond the fanservice, most of the actual interactions and whatnot are social/cultural/character interactions, at least up to the point I reached. Well, and the wanking, but the wanking doesn't involve particularly much direct use, which is usually over quite quickly (there's a terrible joke there about the reaction of readers that enjoy that sort of thing a bit too much, but I'll abstain).

Wish I could remember the book I've got laying around somewhere that had a tech vs. magic smash together with both sides largely being OCP to each other and fairly well matched. There were portals and lightning cannons and... trains? I think. I vaguely remember it being pretty interesting, but stopped reading part way through because of... something. Been years, book's probably shoved somewhere unfindable.
