Saw Voltaire today with friends. Dude's even more charismatic in person. It's like half - musical performance, half - stand-up comedy with a bunch of sexual innuendo in it. 8.5/10 would go again, even though he's more along Bumble's line of stuff than mine.
saw... what? Y- do you have a time machine?

Isn't voltaire very, very dead?

what's going on

General Discussion / Re: Conspiracy theories and the failure of reason
« on: October 25, 2015, 09:24:52 am »
Missed a not, there, I do believe. And they don't use that term because a conspiracy theory is a fairly specific sort of belief. Notably, it involves and requires a conspiracy, which most beliefs don't.

In any case, ant, I don't think it really does display a failure of reason and whatnot. The subset of beliefs that fall under conspiracy theory generally are held by marginal populations -- most people are not convinced by them. That some are is usually not so much a failure of reason so much as a failure of neurology. In any human population you're not going to have a 100% consensus on basically anything. A strong methodology can only do so much with flawed technology, and there's no fault in the methodology implied when the technology involved fails.

General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

I am sure everyone has had that happen once in their life. Just a character you see and you go "Ohh my goodness... it is me!"
Nope. Not everyone. Not with anime, not with live action, not with LNs, not with fiction in general. Was even some explicit self-insert fiction written by a friend back in highschool that didn't trigger that sensation. Some folks just don't associate with characters like that.

I guess I could sorta' see it if you're playing one of those hyperaggressive bless nations that crush the entire map before turn 20 and just outrun your own dominion? I'd rather just take death scales or some heat/cold or... anything but misfortune, really. Seem to recall that some people swear by order/misfortune, but I've tried that and it... doesn't really help. Plus there's some really good beneficial order events.

I'unno, mostly it just seems to add an element of RNG to the game that is incredibly risky. Extra points can give you an edge, obviously enough, but you're counting on the bad events to not be ruinous and, well... putting a(n even) large(r) part of your success in the game in the hands of Dom4's RNG is not exactly what I'd call desirable. It likes to kill people.

The god that's killing them off is a god of fortune, though :P

Two pips of luck, ahaha.

... honestly, I basically never take misfortune scales. Have occasionally tried it, but even misfortune 1 has seen my nation more or less ruined within the first year, nevermind the harsher ones. Event RNG can be nasty enough without actively baiting the thing to come wreck you.

Have you considered... Opera?

Also I'm sure you could make a pretty awesome battery casing out of ribs. Probably wouldn't be the best battery the world's ever seen, and it likely wouldn't be the most compatible in the world (unless you just used the rib bones as material and carved them down to size, but where's the fun in that?), but it would look amazing. High tech necrogothic-chic.

You should give it to boksi instead, methinks. Poor giants haven't caught a break in a while...

... so apparently there's a cat five either in the process of or about to bend mexico over and ream it mightily?

Almost made it two months before people decided they need to bitch about starbound again. Just about made me hopeful the thread was updating because of something substantiative or interesting, but no. Same old horse beating. S'like goddamn clockwork. One of these days it'll actually sink in the new button means one of you lot felt like taking a dump on the game for the hundredth time instead of anything about the actual game :-\

Will say, I half agree with you KosS about the thread unwatching, but instead of that it just needs an ignore thread button, that hides threads like you can hide users. I'd like to stop being reminded people can't stop themselves from humping the horse-corpse fleshpile.

Yes, there is a finite number, even though that number was upped in Dom4.
Excellent.

And yeah, more or less. *updates quest list*
Spoiler: quest list (click to show/hide)

... so someone tell me, is it actually possible to run out of mercenary bands? Can they all be killed off over the course of a game?
