General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

Quite a few of us have :V

I haven't seen the anime, but I did go through the manga a couple times and I've read most of the LNs translated to date. I'd probably recommend the latter over the other two, honestly. Fleshes out a lot, seems to have progressed plot wise a fair bit further than the other two mediums.

Generally the answer to that is no, there's not. You do get put on a payment plan or something of that note, instead of having to pay everything upfront, but the hospitals rarely actually drop prices if you don't possess insurance. They just expect your ass to go bankrupt and them to not get most of the money.

... the manga spells it out a bit more. Of the species introduced so far, from what I recall the only one that's sticking around that didn't kidnap or otherwise acquire human males for part of their breeding cycle is the dullahan (and I guess the slime). Even the centaurs did, and they're not a monogendered species.

The lamia was actually sent out into the world to bring back a human to be shared among her entire colony, as was culturally normal for their people until the human world in general found out about monster races and started putting feet down. Harpies would regularly just flap around and pick up whatever caught their fancy and fly off with them (and then later forget who they were and go screw someone else -- papi and her mother are apparently unusually intelligent/possessing of good memory for a harpy). The centaurs... well, they didn't start breeding much with humans until recently, but they've been using humans as part of their happy fun times for longer than that. Arachnae did what you'd expect from a spider species. It's implied pretty heavily (where it's not outright stated) that consent isn't particularly involved in any of it, heh.

It's... the thing about the species backgrounds in monster musume is they're pretty much all porn plots. Lamia's a harem/gang-rape, harpy's a one-night stand, centaur's NTR, arachnae's black widow, etc., etc., etc. It does actually flesh them out somewhat, but... yeah. Is one of the parts about it that is fairly amusing, to me :P

E: Also, you'll find as you go along that centoria's spiel is not exactly normal for a centaur. Not sure if the anime has hit it yet but the manga has. There's some stuff going on there, and what she's doing is unusual for the species.

... someone remind me, can anyone see astral windows you open up, or is it just you? I vaguely remember it looking like a magic site from your side of things, but can't recall if the visibility of the thingjigger is limited to the caster or not.

Aww, I thought it was gonna be strap-on dildos for strapping onto your wang :/
For what it's worth, caps and whatnot -- basically what you're talking about, just not, like, underslung or something -- have been a thing for a very, very long time. Pretty sure there's some gold ones floating about some museum or another.

I'm sure town criers and messengers and whatnot were doing that centuries before 1865.

... bad things did indeed come from that, though. We can look at the misleading headlines of today and at least be somewhat comforted by the notably lower incidence of them leading to literal lynchings.

We've got a few that speak pretty cheerfully about regular heavy drinking. Call it alcoholism and you might get a different response out of 'em, but framing doesn't change the act itself, nor what it leads to.

And yet, when an alcoholic has made a mess of their body and life because of their problem, you don't see people springing to defend their behavior as perfectly natural, wholly out of their control, or even trying to rebrand them as the ideal.
... except you do? We've seen people defend that behavior and note it as desirable on this very forum, and people excusing alcoholism or playing up the behaviors that lead to and maintain it are so culturally normal in a lot of places you get looked at funny when you don't indulge in them at least occasionally. There's also a significant amount of rhetoric related to alcoholism treatment that refers to the affliction as a disease and does, indeed, use reduction of self-control, sometimes to the extremis (which is where hospitalization and extended detox comes in), as a talking point. And a lot of heavy drinkers cheerfully defend their lifestyle as an ideal to be sought, even in the face of it wrecking the hell out of their existence.

So, uh. Yeah.

How do you guys decide what shows to watch/not watch? I mostly just pick things up at random without much in the way of background-checking, and sometimes I'll go with something that's been recommended.
S'about how I choose manga, yeah. Just bumble around whatever genre I'm interested in at the moment until something catches the eye. Actual anime... that takes a fair bit more, since the time investment involved is tends to be notably larger. Usually go by recommendations, sometimes follow stuff coming from series I previously enjoyed (See: Gundam), sometimes watch junk coming from a manga series I enjoyed (See: Jojo, though I still haven't really watched much of the anime).

Don't really do the random thing there, though. In the time it takes to watch a single episode, I can usually chew through several manga chapters... makes hitting dud anime a considerably larger time investment, so m'more careful on that front.

Eehh... standard immortality would fix most of the old people problems, though. S'largely just the whole decaying mind and body thing. Most of the rest of the problems could be fixed with an occasional targeted memory wipe :V

Hell, if the immortality package came with some neural plasticity rejuvenation, even a lot of the cultural inertia issues would likely be addressed. Fair amount of that comes about just 'cause the mind is physically harder to change as you get older.

Not really a good comparison is what I'm sayin', really. Better would probably be population issues in general, but even that would probably be in better shape with immortality floating around... less pressure/need to continually reproduce and drive up the population.

Anything worth dying for is worth living for, and you can do a lot more doing the latter *shrugs*

12629
Give body to science, mostly. I think there's a few companies out there that do arts and crafts with human remains, too. And there's always fertilizer.

*shrugs* Thou shalt not kill was a mistranslation. Wanna' say that sort of thing doesn't even qualify for execution of the parents under the same set of texts. Punishment, yes, but accidental killing from excessive abuse wasn't a capital offense, iirc.
