General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Memory, eesh. It's offputting, some days. I've got a playlist that's currently about 4.4k songs long. Of them, there's maybe one to two dozen I can't recognize within about 10 seconds of the song starting, and I know there's at least another thousand or two, at a minimum, I'd have similar recollection of. It's, just. You do this, brain, but you forget what day of the week it is. Why. I don't actually want to know why, which is why I'm not using question marks, but still. Why. It's mildly disconcerting. Freaking brainmeats and its lack of quality control. I'd ask to see the manager, but A) there isn't one, and B) if there were, I'd be too busy trying to strangle it to file a complaint.

... I mean, I guess trying to strangle someone is filing a complaint, but it's not a very specific one directed towards the construction of brainmeat.

Many 4 legged animals have evolved to obscure their ankles by putting them in odd places. What do they know that we don't?
The vagrancies of incidental change?

To be fair, the thing is one of the biblical entities most amicable towards humans. Plenty of damnation, but comparatively little genocide and murder and whatnot, and usually pretty up for actually helping people out. Maybe not in the most beneficial of ways, and occasionally a bit of possession and/or insanity, but compared to a pillar of salt a bit of sin and no starvation is a pretty good deal. There's worse things to make a compact with, and for most people the ultimate price is something that they would have already paid.

Also got that whole antichrist the peacemaker thing lined up, supposedly. That'll be as neat a hat trick as being obama, islam, atheism, and hundreds (thousands, etc.) of different people, organizations, and ideologies, all at the same time. Kinda' makes me think they lowballed the number of heads in revelations, honestly. Probably going to need more heads.

Suddenly, all those US progressives that have been wearing Pope t-shirts are going, "Wait wha??"
Instead of wearing memorabilia shirts, they should be campaigning for the pope to wear a sign around his neck that says, "Still Catholic, Folks." And maybe a bell or somethin', I'unno. So that people will be less surprised that he is, in fact, the catholic pope. To the rest of it, by and large the dude's not actually terribly more progressive, if at all, than previous popes. He's just largely better at framing things so he looks less like a backassward jackwad. Directs words towards the more defensible/positive aspects, still as catholic as soiling yourself in a confessional.

And @smj, I'm just kinda' scratching my head at that. Her record's largely public knowledge. There's still no real need to defend, and just about everything that's really necessary to say has been said, imo. Trump et al spewing bullshit doesn't really change that to any substantial degree. I guess it'll need to be repeated at some point, because people have the political memories of lobotomized goldfish, but still.

Beyond that, hell, if your husband isn't going to go to bat for you, who should? Him staying mum on the subject, especially considering his background and history, would probably be worse from the campaigning point of view than anything else. Hillary'll say what needs saying in time, to the extent she hasn't already.

And nah, mainiac, far as I'm aware it's run the course several times already. Think they've just started up another one or somethin'. They can't seem to find anything more damaging, somehow.

Far as I've noticed hillary's said all she needs to say on the email stuff. Pretty okay with someone calling that bullshit what it is regardless of their relationship to the person in question, heh. Didn't even strike me as a defense, though, personally, just someone with better insight than most explaining the situation as what it is, as the interviewer requested. Then a little bit of fluffing on the side, heh.

I'd probably recommend reading that transcript I just linked, yeah. It's not even that long, and is probably significantly better for finding out what was actually said than second hand information (which is, as we all know by this point, often brutally warped) or partially absorbed listening.

Nah, he had pants right up until the point he contracted terminal fire crotch. Then, no more pants.

Don't watch TV in general, so... no. Did find a transcript here, though. Reading through it now.

Anything particularly interesting about it?

E: Can't speak for how he said it, but the words transcribed seemed... competent? Fairly well chosen, did a pretty good job of staying on the metaphorical high ground instead of sniping at people, had a bit of human interest at the end. Appears to be a pretty good showing?

How come every umbrella I've ever owned gets destroyed by the slightest breeze?
Presumably 'cause you owned shoddy umbrellas? Either that or that "slightest breeze" is actually throwing cats around...

It is pretty hard to find an umbrella that'll actually resist strong winds, though. Their construction doesn't really lend itself well to the task. Looking into things, you apparently want one that's fiberglass and has multiple rib-whatsits? Seems like most are made out of shite aluminum and whatnot.

What you'd want if you want one that just won't do the inversion thing is probably an umbrella that just doesn't fold out. Y'know, something like sheet metal on a stick or whatev'. Be clumsy as the blazes to carry around, but it'd be hell to break.

Military spending is not "deliberately focusing efforts on more effectively harming people". Do you know that old aphorism 'The best weapon is that which need not be used'?
Think most people that thinks on this stuff does. It's also a pretty terrible one, because the weapon which is unused is pretty inevitably found use for, as we've seen time and time and time again. You're welcome to try to find a nation that committed to military buildup that didn't end up using it aggressively at some point, often fairly quickly. Preeeetty sure you'll not find a particularly high number there. States have certainly failed the everloving hell out of that metric, heh.

Tempted to get into the pacifism thing, but nah. Not actually a pacifist myself, odd as that may seem considering some of my statements. Just think we do a hell of a lot beyond necessity, sanity, and the most vague pretenses of reason, much of that enabled by just how much goddamn resources we sink into our military and how much a lot of people seem to think that means we get to turn off our brains when we use it.

Now I wonder what their uniforms would look like :D
All I can say is my mind is now swimming with designs for a swastika shaped posing pouch.

I didn't ask for this.

More of a general media thing than anime in particular, really.

... ree, egypt's current gdp is 300 billion and a bit. Its gdp in 1970 was 8 and change. You might want to make sure you weren't forgetting zeros instead of... well, doing what you just did.

... y'know, I was vaguely interested in that first one, and then I actually looked it up. You forgot to mention that S&M bot w/ giant drill penis was actively trying to rape a naked fujiko. Please warn people about these things ;_;
