General Discussion / Re: Sheb's European Megathread: Remove Feta!
« on: September 27, 2015, 11:20:24 am »
Stuff like this just leaves me dumbfounded. There are currently more refugees registered (and even more heading here) in the EU in the last few months than Sweden's entire previous refugee population. How you think any country could just take in that many people at the same time and still function in the immigration process is beyond me.
... by looking at the numbers and seeing you could literally double your total population (which you won't be doing) with nothing but dead weights (which the people you're taking in won't be) and still have a population density and general average income and whatnot placing you better off than a great deal of the bloody world. Yes, the immigration process would be strained to hell and back, but breaking it would take a sustained effort at either sabotaging it or not giving a shit. Which, I mean, hell, a lot of you folks seem intent on doing, so I guess there's worry to be had there, but overall you lot seem to be able to take a helluva' lot harder hit than you seem intent on panicking over.

Would it be easy? No. Would there be troubles, no shit, of course there would be. Would it be some kind of world ending catastrophe, ruining your country into perpetuity? Gods alive, only if you actively engineer it to be.

Which is completely insane. We already hosted the highest number of refugees in Europe, we were already pushing our furthest to help people in a time when we need to help those who are already here (which are foremost immigrants that have come before). To just keep letting people in just because they are refugees is completely irresponsible. I've honestly never been so worried about the future before. This is beyond any kind of sense.
... I wouldn't worry that much. Checking over the numbers, you guys could take in literally every refugee incoming and probably still be a pretty livable place -- you have the room and economy to basically half everything and still be more or less on par with the US or somethin' in terms of density and income and whatnot. Considering there's not even remotely that many are intending to head y'alls way, you guys shouldn't have to worry about genuinely troubled logistic etc. waters even if you take in another few times what you've got now.

... also, no, it doesn't look like sweden's hosting the highest number of refugees in europe. Highest per capita in the EU, it does look like, but in raw numbers germany (and possibly france and the UK -- it's a little hard to find up to date data) appears to be beating y'all out. Europe in general, though... depends on what you consider in europe. Turkey's beating the everloving crap out of most of the EU combined, ferex, in terms of refugee population.

He said be a noob and cheat your arse off.
... I said use a memory editor and adjust the resource values as desired. Got no disdain for someone that wants to make a game more in line with what they desire, and about half the stuff I end up using CE for these days is testing game mechanics, not making things easier, so the noob appellation really doesn't fit the suggestion. Cheatin's a'ight. Has its place.

Soul storm. How do I cheat then?
As I said, cheat engine, or one of its equivalents. You can get CE here. It's a useful little tool. Just checked, and requisition and energy are stored as float values (this will make sense if you're looking in CE's interface, heh). Looks like there shouldn't even be too many of them. Won't take more than one or two filters per resource to find the number and set it to whatever amount you feel like. Took me something like a minute, if that, after loading up a skirmish game to stick a zero at the end of the starting requisition, heh.

... alternately, you can use the built in cheat functions.

Anyways, the opening song for Gundam:Iron blooded orphans has been released.
Show airs on Oct 4th. Can't wait! *vibrates*
*blinks* Hey, hold up. When the hell did Guts show up? Ah, I'm sorry, he's going by "Akihiro" now, apparently. *stares*

... also, what the blue hell is Poco from Arc the freaking Lad doing there? Don't you lie, "Biscuit". You may have changed your hat, but it's incredibly obvious who you are, you freakish dimension hoping incompetent. This troubles me more than it should.

...

lastly, I've obviously missed something, but why in the name of zeus the vigorously potato'd do they appear to be piloting in the nude

I'd ask that you please tell me it's "just" shirtless, but even that is bad enough...

The manga's pretty great. Dunno if I'll actually watch the show, though -- s'fairly rare I do both, and it's gotten where I tend to prefer the drawn and/or written (i.e. LNs) versions. Maybe if reviews and whatnot are stellar...

You can point cheat engine or art money or whatever at it and mess with the resource amounts with a tiny bit of effort.

... yeah, m'just going to go fuzzy with baug. Definition wrestling over entertainment... I need that in my life like I need a bearded greek man with a spud up his bum. Zeus may enjoy potato molestation, but apparently unlike some of you lot, some of us don't want to watch.

Anything actually interesting coming out at the moment? Near future?

We doing the OP thing? Outro with the chest hair pom-poms and cat trombone from Hare Nochi Guu (Deluxe, maybe?) still holds a warm place in my heart :3

Actually listened to it more than once! There's been something like three or four anything series I've done that for, if it didn't involve a TV you couldn't skip with.

E: This thing. Cheerful, trumpets, mild absurdity. An appealing trio.

This. Ubuntu is easy enough if you have a big enough flash drive, but there are smaller distros that you can do basically the same process with. Some you can even make an actual CD to boot from, if that's your only option (you can do a DVD with Ubuntu though).
You... probably don't even need a bootdisk, or any OS whatsoever, if you have a lil' cash to spend. Just pick up one of those USB hard drive docking bay things, and stick the HD in it. Then you can probably pull out whatever without having to bother with OS nonsense at all.

... to be honest, I'd kinda' be okay with allowing it. We have all of one native assassin nation on the field, and they're a race of hoburgs. They need all the help they can get. Maybe just allow it for turland, the poor tiny blighters. Be about the only use you could get out of a hoburg assassin, anyway.

And/or (vital) infrastructure damage, yes. It can be stretched to other uses, though, and is fairly often. Innocents for war on drugs, poor for tax reforms, environment for economy, etc., etc., etc. Oddly enough, of the ones OW was responding to, it's pretty much the only phrase "retarded politicians" actually use when they're attempting to pander to the electorate.

... y'know, it's almost a shame we didn't have you (or someone not playing, whatev') do that for everyone in 4.17. Random nation, random pretender. Would have certainly made things more interesting, if perhaps even more painful.

This place is starting to feel like a retirement home.
Bit late to respond, but give it another few decades. Within your lifetime, it's good odds pretty much the entire internet will be a retirement home. The trolls of today are the geriatric trolls of tomorrow. S'already happening, really. I know a fair amount of old people (as in, 70, 80+) that are pretty active on facebook and whatnot, but don't get around much due to lack of familiarity. When the last few generations get to that point, there won't be any lack of familiarity, aheh.

To be entirely honest, if you've got a neat idea you'd like to implement, I wouldn't worry too much about balance, at least initially. Do your thing first, adjust numbers and whatnot second. There's plenty of mod nations that are still pretty fun to play that are complete shite from a balance perspective, one way or another, and that's perfectly okay, heh.
