General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

In 11th grade (I think) I literally never used my locker once. It was just so out of the way of everything. And maybe I'm weird but I got a weird sense of pride (and presumably strong back muscles) from walking around with 30 pounds of stuff on my back all day.
Hey, I did the same thing. Except from middle school onward.

All I got from it is spinal damage that's probably going to eventually take surgery to fix, caused by a lower back that looked like it should have been on a 40 year old when I was 18.

... the sensibility involved in that "more sensible" is so far in the negatives it would be experiencing integer wraparound were it evaluated in an old computer system. Guess this is a brand of insanity that probably shouldn't be engaged with, so... yeah.

Yeah, I'd back EA's layout on this'un, with 55 (or higher :P) for sites. Same for thrones -- I don't really have an inclination beyond "more" (my usual funsies SP games are 75 on sites and maxed level 2/3 thrones, heh, with mods boosting diversity and power for both). Definitely have a preference for non-wrapped maps (they're easier for me to wrap my head around, ha), but if it's a serious deal breaker for anyone m'okay with wrapped, too. Valanis would be fine.

Era wise, I'd put my suggestion for early. The tech I've seen generating some nations is... honestly kinda' boring, t'me. Whereas more weird critters and stranger mounts and whatnot is very much not boring, heh.

Stealth exercise program. Alternately, lobbying from whoever handles lower back pain (due to overstuffed backpacks) in your local health system.

The start, at least, yeah. It came second. The continued presence in afghanistan is more than a little downplayed.

That, and presumably because Iraq's closer to the present. Closet to the current memory and all that.

Ah, that. Corruption, my good fellow!

More seriously, it actually does/did have a use in prosecuting certain crimes, primarily drug related. It's just since been expanded and abused to the point it's one of the more egregious examples of problems with the US law enforcement system.

/ Wonder why the OP is thanking the vets that invaded an unrelated country /
aannndd baug said everything I was about to, so, uh.

Yeah, any enmity in the US generally isn't directed at the soldiers themselves. The generals, the politicians, sometimes lesser commanding officers, that happens. The vets, the rank and file... no. They're basically the state's sacred cow. To an extent, they have to be, considering the amount of support they can require if they come back alive. Even with that post-discharge integration has pretty serious troubles. Without it... things could get pretty bad.

... was that ya meant to be yeah or you? I'm guessing the former, but it's probably better to get confirmation before someone misunderstands. 'Cause, uh. Irritated as folks bringing it back up after so long can make me, the latter would be going a bit too far.

Even better, so is super almost huge. N-huge, to be technical, apparently. It's like the mathematician that came up with the term let their six year old name things :V

... which is okay. That would probably end up making some fields make more sense, ha.

Fourteen years and people still are hung up on this and keep bringing it up. Please, people who are still grieving and having flashbacks: Seek professional help. It's been over a decade. The mourning period is long over, and continuing to dwell on the events of the past, long after we've inflicted massively disproportionate retribution, is doing nothing but hurting everyone involved and then some.

The only way to thank the memory of those who suffered in the attacks and the atrocities that came after is to get your life back on track, start living well, and let the past be the past. Stop bringing it up. Give thanks by leaving it be and letting the hurt die, instead of insisting on continuing to annually inflict it upon the survivors and everyone else effected by what came after.

---

Yet another year this gets dragged back up. I had bloody family within sight distance of the towers when they fell, more that went to help with the recovery, others that spent time in the Middle East in the interim years, multiple friends and acquaintances that got fucked up by military service during the same period, and this unending hangup is not helping.

... so what's this I hear about north ireland being without a head of state equivalent?

Yeah... I was playing an SP game just recently, and as near as I can tell some kind of story event happened and... well. Something like a quarter of silent sea's indie provinces ended up a hellscape of undead, demons, and garnet amazons, and an army or two of mine almost got wiped by packs of devils. A couple of smaller patrolling groups did get wiped by amazon attacks. It was pretty nasty, ha. Not actually sure if it was a story event or just something related to being adjacent to a garnet amazon province, but still.

Usually sleep on my back, m'self. Sometimes on my sides. Stomach not at all, I basically can't breath laying flush in that position, and the best I can manage involves pointing my head to the side which ends up with a hellish neck cramp the next day. Do often switch from side to side several times (often while reading :V) before I actually go to sleep, though, almost always on my back.

Interesting thing is I've noticed a very distinct correlation between what sort of dreams I get and how I'm sleeping. Sleeping on my side is like tuning a dial -- left side if I want to increase the likelihood of violent/negative dreams,* right side if I want to up the chance of salacious/positive dreams, back for delightfully balanced dreams of splendor and wonder and awe. Not a guarantee of anything regardless of position, but it's definitely a substantial and consistent influence.

*Which I don't like, so I usually don't sleep on my left side if I don't sleep on my back. Which is kinda' unfortunate, because for some ungodly reason laying on your left side seems to reduce the effects of reflux.
