You'll take washington over my dead body. Only place in this bloody country with decent weather.

Cali's pretty alright in a bunch of places, too. Also a lot of people there, so we'd need to put them somewhere else. Would be giving up too much GDP to let those ones go.

Oregon... they can have oregon. Is there even anyone living there anymore?

They've just stopped worrying and learned to love the laser beam, LSp. Entirely competent and lovers of humanity, just a little too fond of death rays and the sharing thereof. Maybe a little scatterbrained and not quiet cognizant that all of the fun of death beams comes from being on the projecting rather than receiving end.

You can have the carolinas. Whole tri-state area, really, at least including the florida panhandle. You'll choke on 'em, so have fun :V

Condolences, yeah. A robust and primarily happy dreaming experience has been one of the better parts of m'life to date, heh. Lucid's only been in small bursts and inconsistent (plus I usually don't have much incentive to go lucid -- my dreams trend toward ruddy awesome and usually worth going along for the ride :V), but the rest of it's been some of th'best entertainment I've seen. Dream brain loves me, and I love it :3

But yeah, few cases of the whole paralysis thing, usually after/during snapping myself awake from one of the rare unpleasant dreams. Happily very limited in scope and duration, but nasty stuff even then. Confining in a way that's very difficult to experience through other means.

Sleep paralysis is fucking terrifying. Bravery has nothing to do with it.
Not sure if I'd call it fucking terrifying, but it's certainly zero sorts of pleasant. @C, please don't induce suffering on yourself as some sort of silly benchmark of suffering exposure sort of nonsense. No real benefit from experiencing sleep paralysis. Is just undergoing unpleasantness you can't do anything about.

Ain't no shame in freaking the hell out a bit if you experience it, though. Or being scared of it or whatev'. None at all. M'just glad my experiences with it have been few and short, heh. Ruddy unpleasant, it is.

Probably! Was likely just the avenue they used to try to butt in. S'just that we don't actually know, and the person in question having pretty severe trouble getting along would be a pretty simple explanation for the why of the parental involvement at that age. Article gives no mention of how bad the previous history was, whether the involvement to that degree was normal, etc., etc., etc.

E: Though, that said, I've seen cases where sufficiently severe depression and/or drug use has resulted in being placed under guardianship. It can definitely reach the point you're no longer really capable of making your own decisions to the extent required to maintain legal control over yourself.

... neo's speculating based on the stated history in the article, presumably. Long term substance abuse plus chronic depression and an unknown learning disability can be associated with some rather unusual behavior. Don't really know enough about the history involved to extend that sort of assumption, though. Person could have been a pretty calm depressive drug user. It happens.

Time to disown 'em.

... though actually reading it, it's 48 years old with a history of substance abuse (only three years clean, which is still really bloody recent as that goes), depression (likely caused by the gender mismatch, for what that's worth), and apparently a learning disability of unstated severity, which may at least explain how the parents had any input whatsoever on the process and weren't told to go bugger themselves years earlier.

'Course, the parents statements underscored that they probably don't really give a shit about their child, so eh, t'hell with 'em.

@Neo:
1) Muse.

2)Author, Author.

3)Living Witness.

4)Probably Bride of Chaotica!

... incidentally, all of those showed up as more or less the first hit on google searches. You're welcome, lazybones.

Lot of people seem not to, yeah. Being fair, at least on some machines (like mine :V) it's like three buttons pressed at the same time or some crap. That's more than some folks are comfortable with usin'.

... name it Bay12? Maybe 21yaB. I like that better.

... y'know, given the whole occasional spiel about vampires needing to feed the vampire's blood to their victims to cause a conversion, uh. Transubstantiation suddenly comes under an entirely different light.

Also now I'm wondering how feasible a scam that would be to run in some vampire flavored RPG. Trick the consecrated wine into functioning metaphysically/magically as the master vampire's blood, maybe manage to weave exsanguination into a particular sect's funerary rights if it's necessary for the conversion... country/world wide vampire production factory, right there. Probably even built in "genuine" miracles via vampire abilities, too.

S'actually something that hit me earlier today, reading something elsewhere on the 'net. It's kinda' odd that there's not more casters plying the faith circuit in modern-day magic series. Considering it's already a (many) multi-million dollar fraud market just with plain ol' con-men (to say nothing of the resources circulating normally), it'd be incredibly fertile ground for someone with supernatural abilities to exploit for... whatever, really. Room and board if nothing else.

Really, when it comes to dolphins, an easy rule of thumb is to ask yourself whether doing the action in question would make something more or less of a jackass. If the former, dolphins are probably willing. They're the bastards of the sea. And rivers. And occasionally nearby coastlines. Basically everywhere they can reach, really. If they had rocket packs they would probably spend the afternoons buzzing orphanages.

Heat based death rays fall comfortably under the Tao of Laser Beams, serg. Most straight-line directed energy weapons do, really.
