... y'know, I've rode with a lot of people that said they could tell the speed they were going without looking at the speedometer.

They were wrong.

"... you are aware of how fast you're going, right?" "*insert answer within five mph of the speed limit*" "*insert response noting the speedometer is reading at least five to ten mph over that.*"

But maybe you have a superpower that isn't the normal power they call self-delusion, in which case, congratulations. Please use your power for good.

... honestly, I don't think too terribly many of the folks with any degree of awareness that are intent on voting for clinton really expect her to change much. It's just an issue of the (functionally only) other option (i.e. whoever ends up being the republican candidate) being one that would change things (or at least actively try to), and change them for the rather significant worse.

Dislike clinton as you please, but if you think anything on the GOP side of things (especially any of the ones that might actually win the primaries) isn't going to do the same things she does, except worse, and with few to any offsetting points of benefit, I have many bridges to sell you at very affordable rates.

... just walked by the TV doing some sort of daytime selling... thing... that was trying to convince women watching that jumper cables are some kind of terrifying and inscrutable device unfathomable to their gender, and because of it the person watching should buy... whatever the hell they were selling, I wasn't paying attention to that. Because apparently they or their daughters are incapable of figuring out a color coded jumper cable in event of an emergency.

I... the first time I used one of those, I had never actually watched one used before (except for the revvy bits, but even then...), and I didn't have someone helping me figure it out. They're. Jumper cables are not some sort of mysterious lostech that one must insert a dick into to make function, and you don't need to buy a metaphorical strap-on for it, either.

Why, TV? Why?

... usually nothing, especially in the situation you're describing. Low level community/state (most others, too, really) colleges tend to not really do anything on that first day (besides maybe assign some reading) pretty much regardless of the course content. So long as it's not a summer class, anyway.

They currently (or at some point in recent history -- I was trying to get some numbers comparisons and it came up) make up something like 3.6% of production in the US, iirc, for what it's worth. So less than one in 20 that's being made with intent to sell. Obviously we've got more loitering around and whatnot, and they're probably not going away any time soon (unfortunately :P), but rare's a fairly good word for it. Just not shiny-pokemon rare.

... you definitely haven't been looking, then. Hillary may not exactly be perfect in all ways, flawless and inviolate, but as politicians go she's relatively tame as dishonesty goes. We've seen a lot worse in just the last couple decades.

Don't get in it if they offer you candy, though. Nothing good comes from large white vehicles, flying or not.

Has apparently reversed on his earlier senatorial propositions to cut military spending. So he used to be, and then he ran as a GOP candidate for president* :V

Also one of the ways he'd apparently fund the increase in military spending would be to slash foreign aid spending (buncha' other stuff, too, for what that's worth, some of which significantly more worrisome from a domestic perspective). So. Pretty sure he counts on both, now.

*Near as the news says, that's actually pretty much the literal reason for the reversal, to appease the hawkish as the buggery portion of the GOP base/political engine. Is probably the primary reason to be skeptical as the blazes that any republican candidate would be (hell, could be) less hawkish than... pretty much any democrat one. One of these two parties has increased (or at least not decreased) military spending and more political strong-arming as what amounts to a party platform.

13419
Have to admit, now I'm vaguely curious if there's actually a republican candidate with their ticket in the hat that's actually for reduced military spending and/or cooling down foreign adventurism. I guess I'd accept one that just doesn't want to increase either as fitting that category as well.

Will say I've pretty much taken it as a given that if they're a republican politician they're for increased military spending and probably a notable increase in political belligerence, since that's kinda' been the party's default position for... a while now.

... not curious enough to actually check, but if someone willing to respond has noticed it, it would be neat to hear about.

Seems to mostly be that, yeah. Price differences, some regulatory and cultural differences. Probably doesn't help that y'all drive a shitload less to begin with, heh, thanks to that whole "actually existing public transportation infrastructure" thing.

... wasn't that special alloy just luna titanium? I mean, it was definitely an advantage when it was first fielded, but they were eventually loading up a buncha' junk with that stuff, iirc. Though checking it does look like it was primarily around key areas instead of the whole thing...

Beam rifle was definitely a big deal, but it was also something that was mostly ubiquitous after a bit. Was the point I was tryin' to make, that there wasn't anything really special about the gundam except its pilot. Everything about it was (in some cases fairly rapidly, as in the case of the beam weaponry) disseminated out.

Well, and some of the odd ones in the other direction... I'm pretty sure the B Gundam doesn't really count as a gundam :P

I mean, it probably should, because it's amazing (even if its performance is even worse than what it's patterned off of :V), but still.

@neo: ... mobile suits. There's not a separate name. Gundam, guntank, and guncannon, are all specific mobile suits, not... some kind of odd seperate category. In lore they were all designed for eventual mass production.* I guess if you're talking strictly the first series, you'd be thinking zeon mobile suits, but the GM and ball and whatnot showed up, too, if my memory's not completely failing me, so that doesn't really work.

As for the jegan, I'll give it this much: It's better than the GM :V

*And, indeed, eventually were -- there wasn't actually all that terribly much special about the gundam itself, except that freaking amuro the god of death was piloting it, and iirc zeon was producing suits with higher specs than the gundam by the end of the OYW in fairly decent numbers. There's actually a few other gundams running around concurrently with amuro's first walkabout, even, I do believe.

... my favorite mobile suit (not counting the zaku, anyway, since it's the best thing in the entire franchise :P) is probably the xamel, personally. Ain't much better than a great hulking monstrosity packing a gun longer than some other MS are tall, and it's not as silly looking as some of the other beefy ones. Got a menacing sort of moxy to it, without being one of the superweapon/end-boss machines. I've always liked the ones that have presence -- like they can take a cannon to the face and just keep going, and do it by dint of sheer weight instead of some sort of space magic.

S'always made me kinda' sad it never seems to be the protag faction that has the weighty machines. Always the bad guys have the stuff with oomph :-\

... I guess it's nice to invent random categories instead of just going by what the series itself uses...? And yeah, neo, your memory is completely shot. Like. Entirely. Pretty sure gungun was never used as a word in the series, and both gundams and guntanks and most of the artiliery (i.e. xamels, zaku cannons, etc.) are all mobile suits (except when they're mobile armors :P). Series does have tanks, but they're not guntanks and they're also more or less completely irrelevant except to get stepped on by zakus for a bit in the beginning of the very first show.

Though OW's statement is now making me try to recall if one of the gundam shows ever had a bit/funnel cannon. I'm not sure if it'd exactly help to have a funnel launching gun emplacement like that, but... well, they made weirder stuff, I guess.
