I can only assume it's inflicted you with some sort of brain damage causing the laughter parts of your brain to malfunction. Might want to check with a doctor.

Never even heard the word before, actually, near as I can remember. So... probably not. Not intentionally, anyway.

I'd echo the alera stuff, just be aware there's some rape baiting -- approaching the act as a shock/titillation device -- in the... second or third book? Something like that, it's been a while since I've read 'em and I stalled on the forth or fifth book. Think there's some other bits here and there that are kinda' rough above and beyond the general violence. If stuff like that's a potential issue, you might want to consider a different series.

Would echo the riftwar stuff, too. They even made some video games (the krondor stuff) based off 'em. Or the other way around, something like that.

... also, if you could stand LotR, you might consider the Shannara stuff. There's certainly a lot of it, and it's not dissimilar in style. Also does the occasional faintly interesting thing. On the other hand, it's also more than a little sloggy, and I vaguely remember some pretty questionable writing at times, as well. Not something I'd actually recommend, but a possibility.

As for interesting settings... there are a small handful of Darksun books. I've read a few, and would probably recommend. Similarly, there's some spelljammer books (six total, making up the cloakmaster cycle) out there that are kinda' neat. Not particularly lengthy (though there's a fair few of the darksun stuff), but they provide some faintly interesting scenarios. In a similar tangent, consider that there are quite a few Magic the Gathering novels, some of which are even pretty interesting. Might be worth checking out if you're looking for fantasy that's fairly divergent from the norm.

... assuming you're not a bot, or a drive-by spammer, you'll be happy to know we already have an EmpireMUD thread. If you're looking to see if folks are interested in something related to the game, you'll probably want to post there, instead.

Sometimes you ask yourself questions that you can't help but bring yourself to find the answer to. Questions like, "I wonder what this movie is like?" or, "Can that really fit through my sphincter?"

And then you find the answer.

And wish you hadn't.

Very few are actually stopped. There's plenty that just don't, though, due to the whole legal thing, or a recognition of how badly alcohol can fuck you up, or any number of other things. Gods know I've felt less than zero interest in drinking the stuff, even after I was legal for it.

People do get in trouble for it off and on, for what it's worth. Just tends to be whoever sold the stuff instead of the minor. Every once in a while a shop'll get hit with fines or closed down for selling to underage folks. Significantly more rarely a kid'll end up in juvie or somethin' due to getting caught with alcohol. Probably the most common "caught" situation is with colleges, if I had to guess -- I've seen a fair few people kicked out of dorms because they had alcohol in the same room as someone under the drinking limit.

Kinda' like getting involved with jailbait, a lot of it boils down to just not taking the risk. Sure, you probably won't get caught, and there probably won't be any problems, but the chance is definitely there and you might as well just wait a bit.

'course, on the other side of that, I've actually watched as someone legal bought beer in a local store and took it out into the parking lot to share, in public, with underaged kids, while a cop was physically in the same parking area, watching. So... yeah. Varies by region, people involved, etc., etc. etc.

Hilariously enough, danmachi would be an example. Bell actually looks like a rabbit, i.e. he has most of the characteristics of an albino (white hair, red eyes) as well as being fairly pale. And his appearance is unusual enough to draw note in a setting where, y'know, catgirls.

That slime thing mentioned back around the reincarnation discussion up a ways played the hair color straight, too. Not exactly anime (is LN/webnovel), but still. Probably plenty of others -- there's plenty of cases where what we consider abnormal hair color is, well, the color it appears. It being unusual for the setting in question is a different story, of course.

The questions I wrote out got censored, apparently too political for the casual atmosphere.
... mind sharing the questions? Inquiring minds are mildly curious :V

Breaker's a pretty decent lower-key punch magic series in general, even above and beyond the fighty bits. S'pretty darn alright, one of the better "martial arts" (scare quotes due to it involving, well, quite a bit of punch magic as things go on, instead of just the raw punch of a straight on martial arts work) manga thingies. Largely good art, regularly excellent fight scenes, non-negligible characterization and interaction... s'just fairly solid. Pretty sure it's been recommended a few times upthread a ways.

Don't think I've read through holy land yet. Might as well put it on the metaphorical list.

... if it takes you alcohol to get it up or get ready at that age, something has gone horrifically wrong.

Also a lot -- a lot -- of kids just ignore the age limit. Plenty of folks get drunk much younger than 21 in this country. Ends up killing a fair few, too.

Beyond that, we have freaking terrible sex ed in most of the country, which easily includes poor access to contraceptives, and a culture that's often predisposed towards not talking about good practices until it's far, far too late. Basically a lot of factors coming together (ha) to up the pregnancy rates.

Clearly you need to burn a copy of blender to CD and blend it, it's. Blend a copy of blender in effigy. Maybe mail the results to whoever coded the thing.

E: looking in to it more, though, it looks a lot like there's not really a specific term for that. Just vocals.
Actualllly, grak, it looks like the closest thing to a specific term is "spoken word sample", or possibly just spoken word. Hope that helps. Also hope you (or someone else) keeps looking and finds out if there's a different/better term for it, because now I'm curious, too :-\

It... looks like it might be considered a breakdown, which is a variation on a break. Possibly also known as a cut, for the specific genres asked about. I don't exactly know for sure, though.

... plenty of manga is really good at depicting nail biting action, and fight scenes and whatnot are, in fact, one of the major reasons several genres of manga get any sales traction at all.

I mean... hell, this GoH thing has been basically nothing but fight scenes. The entire ruddy thing has been fight scenes occasionally interspersed with character interaction and flashbacks. It's literally "tournaments, the webtoon" so far. It does pretty well -- and as I've noted, it's relatively sub-par as manga-style stuff goes.

Your words make me wonder what action manga you've had the misfortune to encounter before reaching the point you were willing to generalize out to the entire medium, because your observation is incredibly counter to much of what I've seen, m'self.

Satyrs spawned satire. Goats, therefore, are only half-mockeries of the animal kingdom.
They didn't, actually. Fruit spawned satire.
