You know, now that you mention it, I've never heard of a person who sleeps around yet identifies as aromatic. Those who sleep around always talk about settling down eventually.
I've seen a few folks that claimed aromatic on its own over the years. Some folks do like them some sex while just not growing romantically attached to folks in the process. It doesn't necessarily mean they won't settle down, though... cohabitation, even with a sexual component, doesn't require romantic attachment, et al. Just about every reason to live with someone is still there even if you're not in a romantic relationship with 'em.

That said, it's definitely been quite rare to see. Most folks that aren't capable of forming attachments like that also aren't particularly interested in sex to begin with, so... most of the time you see aro, you seem to also see ace, even moreso than the reverse. Plenty of what's left (probably reasonably, same as with a lot of sexual/romantic/gender minorities under plenty of circumstances) assume it's not a good idea to admit it, too. There's a lot of winnowing going on until you reach the conflux of aromantic willing to self-identify as one in... well, most conversations, really (and especially relatively public ones).

Yeah J, that general thought has a voice in the back of my head enthusiastically going "Democratize the means of production!"

It's one of those cases where, like, I'm sympathetic to the potentially undercut artists, yes, but. Consider for a moment what it entails for everyone else if these programs are seeing enough distribution and use to actually manage that. The world's creative output would explode. The world's creative access would explode, the means to make excellent art being made available even to people without the time or talent to develop those means, bottlenecked only by a program's processing speed, not money to commission artists or said artists' available time. It potentially opens the gates that were locked behind talent and years of dedication and practice to just, everyone. The disabled, the dysgraphic, the folks that are struggling to find the time and means just to eat, nevermind making and practicing art.

It'd probably kinda' suck for a lot of current artists, in all honesty, and there's definitely other potential issues that could crop up (like the use for propaganda, absolutely), but. It's hard to put into words what being able to have a pocket artist on your side would mean to people that have ideas but for whatever reason can't art worth a damn otherwise.

Eh, demisexual (at least as I can parse it from a check) is also very much a deviation from the "norm" -- common sexuality is absolutely capable of arousal/sexual attraction without a prior close emotional attachment (e.g. porn exists, folks get horny over people they don't have close attachment to all the time). If asexual counts due to the abnormality facet (and it deffo seems to, nevermind other considerations), demisexual counts, yeah?

... I can see the argument for aromantic being a maybe (if you squint, it doesn't have anything, technically speaking, with sexuality, assuming you're using a very constrained and specific consideration of relationships), but especially considering its function as a modifier, well... close enough? Does it hurt somehow to allow for aro folks in the LGBTetc sphere? Not like they're not going to have their share of troubles when it comes to interacting with more standard sexual/relationship configurations.

I mean, if aro/ace stuff fits (and it's certainly lumped in with the rest of the non-cis pile) then something adjacent to it should to, yeah? It's only a small step from one or the other of those. Near as I can tell from a quick reminder it's pretty distinct from the common cis-het sexuality patterns, so... into the pile it goes.

Throwing an angry kitten at it sounds like animal cruelty, though.

Nah, that was probably intentional. You normally don't bring up d when talking 'bout kids.

In other news, at the fresh young age of 32, I have now finally learned of dishwasher salt. At this point I'm really starting to wonder if my parents gave me the wrong life training as a joke.
It... doesn't seem to be necessary unless you have particularly hard water, from a quick check (I had never heard of the stuff, never heard or seen anyone using it, quick look at local walmart stock says there's exactly one offering to sell the stuff on their shelves out of ~60 things meant for the same purpose, etc.). It's entirely likely they never used the stuff nor had need to.

In other words, if they did give you the wrong life training as a joke, it probably wasn't due to dishwasher salt :P

General Discussion / Re: American Housing Crisis

I mean, it may be anathema but it's also inflicted, sometimes violently, on our poorest demographics. The wait lists and related hoop jumping horseshit for assisted housing can take sometimes take over a fucking decade to navigate (and you're probably going to be waiting years at a minimum regardless, which helps exactly as much as you'd think for someone facing immediate eviction or somethin'), and far as I'm aware this goddamned country still has a moratorium on just straight up government constructed housing.

Part of the reason you don't see as much "just bloody build the damn things" is because some pile of gigantic assholes put a legislative block on it some decades ago, so the supply of genuinely public housing has somewhere between held steady and outright shrunk since, even as demand has steadily increased.

It's just one facet of the colossal block of shit that is the US housing situation, especially for the poor.

General inflation (also wages, basically fucking everything, etc.) has been wildly outpaced by housing cost increases, last I noticed. Whatever effect it's having on the housing situation is minor, and far, far less impactful than... all the other horseshit going on.

Also it's not really a "location, location, location" thing. Housing costs are up basically everywhere in excess of other cost increases, wages, again more or less everything, location just effects how badly. Shitholes that literally don't have utility services are somehow managing to price people out that used to live there, from what I understand. It's pretty messed up.

I kinda' agree, but it's caveat'd by you also having to deal with the consequences if you refuse.

Like, if you want to refuse to take the 'rona vaccine, sure, but you don't get to come inside the city limits anymore and hospitals/other areas with at-risk populations (i.e. anywhere public at a minimum, probably) can also refuse to deal with you due to the risk you pose to other people, that kind of deal. It's your choice right up until you start wanting to make that choice for other people, too.

That kind of thing's definitely abusable, but, y'know. 6.5+ million dead and counting. At some point it's worth the risk of abuse, and it's probably well before a seven digit body count :-\

... yeah, mentioning it made me curious as to salt content. 380 mg per 2 ounces, ahaha.

It's actually a little less than some comparable pork sausage brands, but... still.

Semi-related, I've been getting pretty close to making very low salt hamburger patties (75 mg or so per patty, it's not major, and it's pretty much the only salt involve at all) taste dead on like regular sausage. Pepper, chili powder, rosemary, and cane syrup added early to crumbled hamburger during pan cooking, so far -- it's close, but not quite there. Still really damn tasty, but not quite 100% genuinely low sodium sausage-equivalent... yet. Getting there, though.

really I should just, like. Look at the ingredients used to season common sausage, but that feels too easy, y'know? Half the point is the fiddling about.

Anyone else had their youtube suggested videos suddenly change, like... a lot? In the last day or so.
I actually have. It is very aggressively recommending music to me lately.
More or less the same, yeah. Was that the music suggestions were fairly uncommon, but whenever I made that post it had suddenly shifted to almost wall to wall music-y things with a smattering of random junk I hadn't been seeing and have zero interest in, instead of the usual melange of what I normally watch (smaller/indie gaming stuff, mostly).

Sure, but that's half a decade to a decade and a half of a huge pile of people not having to deal with the problem in question, which, like. The benefits to stress levels alone will probably save thousands, tens of thousands of lives, just from that, heh.
