Honestly it makes me mad when people defend unfinished or broken release games on the basis that "Games don't have to be made functional on release anymore because they can release patches"... which is the equivalent of buying a car that doesn't work until you take it to the mechanic.
... do people actually say that?

I mean, most of what bugs me about that statement is the "anymore". Patches have... pretty much always been a thing. As has the chances of a game being a broken mess on release been disturbingly high. Though man, let me just say that if there's a difference between the bugs of today, and the bugs of the 90s/00s, it's that the former is considerably less likely to completely brick your machine :P Back in my day, developers knew how to completely fuck things up via incompetence instead of just make a game that has minor problems or doesn't work on some machines. Admittedly that was still pretty rare, but game breaking/etc. stuff was daaaamn common. People complaining and saying games of yesteryear were more stable are definitely people that had an incredibly different experience than I did, heh.

Unless they're specifically talking consoles, which... yeah, that's mostly more recent, maybe barring a few of those odd internet peripheral stuff from way back.

... what was the date? Time of year makes a difference -- sunset's like 7pm right now in cairo. It was 5-ish in december. Though checking it, it looks like there's never a point that egypt hits sunset at 10. Latest looks to be around eight-ish, maybe nine on the extreme end.

Also where exactly do you live that sunset at 10pm is... normal? Guessing up north somewhere?

RIFTS could honestly be pretty great, if you ripped out the mechanics and replaced them with something more workable :P

Hella' neat setting with plenty of room for tie-ins and creativity, just... kinda' clumsy to actually play, from what I understand.

I thought it was all oil now.
Not all oil anymore. Just somewhat. Pretty sure we're still getting the occasional tarball or whatev' washing up in florida, anyway.

Hey now RK, you can't kill (most) vampires. They're already dead. Batman would just be correcting a longstanding illegal exhumation case, not killing anyone :V

Damnit Frumple, now I'm gonna have to track this Romancing Saga thingy down and play it.
Are there any copies for sale online? If I order it when I get paid it would probably arrive by the time I get back from the US...
It... looks like there's some of the PS2 remake floating around the net for purchase? The english version's titled "Minstrel Song", I think, to help you look for it. Also looks like the actual SNES cartridge is available for relatively cheap as still-functioning SNES imports go, assuming you've got a working SNES and the means to patch a physical cartridge.

... do note that this a '94/'05 SNES/PS2 game we're talking about, and only the latter was every officially localized. S'just the former finished getting fantranz'd last month.

N... no, brutally failing PR and relations with other companies does, in fact, demonstrate in and of itself you're a pretty shitty businessperson. Especially on the upper end, being able to keep your stupidity between your ears instead of flailing out your mouth into everyone's face is pretty ruddy integral.

... have gotten further into Romancing Saga. Now I'm wondering exactly how the remake got middling reviews. I'll give that it's a little aimless, but the mechanics are solid, and this is a game where you can have a bear cross-counter a triceratops.

Think on that. Bear cross-counter a triceratops. Bear on dinosaur fisticuffs of death. This is entirely too much concentrated awesome for a mid '90s SNES game, damnit.

Though admittedly at the point I'm at, the dinosaurs completely fuckmurder my entire team. One shot anything I have (and by that I mean they do enough damage per swing to kill any of my critters three times over ♥), attacks twice per turn, nothing I do does more than one point of damage. Sometimes there's 10-15 parties on the things in a single room. It's... kinda' hilarious :V And fair. These are freaking triceratops versus a forest hobo that's not even twenty yet, a wolf, a bear, and some random jackass with a sword.

Also brau pretty rapidly fell off in terms of damage, which is fairly sad. Probably going to end up transitioning him into a caster like I've done with the wolf. Yes, my wolf minion spits fireballs and calls down starfire from the heavens. Metal as hell. Not terribly useful, 'cause the damage is kinda' shitty (especially on that starfire, since it's the most basic light spell :P), but goddamn.

@ NJW: Just bloody do it. Better something definitely done today than maybe done tomorrow.

Last I checked my town doesn't even have a sewer, period, much less anything in it. Worst we'd get in it is alligators and deadly snakes, regardless.

... that, on the other hand, is going too far. Books are to be loved, regardless of their rarity, even if you're setting one on fire and throwing it into someone's face. Especially then, for its noble sacrifice should be honored with great dignity.

In other news, problems with scaling enemies number N: When you encounter orcas in the town sewer.

Have to give these people's civil planners credit for being able to support an entire oceanic ecosystem under their city, though. That takes some hella' planning.

You guys wanton display of potential book cruelty is... Distressing. To say the absolute least and nicest.
Sometimes when you love a thing, and that thing is a book, you hurl it into a wall just to watch it fly :(

Seriously though they're generally pretty tough, surprisingly aerodynamic once you get some practice in, and often make the most amusing shapes when you toss them through the air. Books aren't made for throwing (usually), but it's a pleasing emergent property common to the medium *sage nod*

And I guess shoving them down stairs is okay, too. I never really had stairs to shove things down...

Take the options outside, throw them as far as possible. One that goes furthest wins?

... remake? *checks* Oh wow, there was one. PS2, something like a decade ago. Huh. Almost makes me wish I owned a PS2. Or, well, had back in '05. In the meantime, the SNES version recently got fantranz'd, sooooo... >_>

Also yeah, it's pretty fun. The bear recently learned to combo people -- one-two punch of holy-shit-that-hurts, which can only get better :3 Bear could seriously one shot anyone in my party right now, including himself.

Seriously though, bear is my highest damage dealer and my best tank right now. Not exactly far in the game, but... still. Bear is kicking more shit than a highly trained bodyguard armed with actual weapons*. Bear gives no damns, punches out giant death fish. Brau the bear is a bro :V

*And my main character, who is mostly a healbot, and the wolf, which is... kinda' weak compared to everyone else, but can at least spew fire at things! Which is great, from an aesthetics point of view.
