... and to brush aside the fedora that suddenly impacted my screen from the inside, dealing with symbols actually does help, to a degree. Not as much as consistent engagement, but it makes it that much more difficult to organize and disseminate the attitudes and beliefs that attach themselves to such symbols. When it's particularly difficult to manage the engagement, and the political will doesn't exist for more stringent physical intervention, you get what you can when you can, et al. You just can't let small victories stop you from aiming for the big ones, which is the occasional worry.

The short answer would be "No." The long answer is longer, and beyond me to know the details, but so far as I'm aware so long as it's not a strict scrutiny issue (which includes things like race, religion, etc.), discrimination is generally pretty legal. If I had a store or whatever and wanted to put up a sign saying "No one with hair past the shoulders allowed" (and then enforced it), I'm fairly sure that'd be legal in a lot of places in the US, and not strictly against the constitution regardless.

Naaaah. Like I said, reading can be pretty smooth on a tablet or touchscreen. There's other stuff that's fairly slick as well. Just... not most games.

Yeah... stuff like that is why the SCOTUS decision was both great and terrible. We've still got a helluva' fight ahead to make sexual orientation and whatnot something under strict scrutiny and thus umbrella'd under anti-discrimination laws. Noticed a fairly succinct pic that's circulating a little that does a pretty good job of getting the message across:

Well... maybe? I've seen pretty glowing reviews/recommendations for places that have an aside that goes "Just don't order the X". I'd even say that's fairly normal...

... in other news, I'm just now wrapping up helping make seventy people worth of coleslaw. I now thoroughly understand why people refer to the stuff with "a mess of coleslaw". I think the only place shredded cabbage didn't end up was the ceiling, and that was a close thing.

Heroes of Annihilated Empires has the option. You can choose to go into a match either as a builder or a solo champion. Goal is still annihilation, but the mechanics of it can be somewhat distinct (builders eventually get a hero as well, but later in the game and substantially weaker than the solo champ). The individual factions are fairly different, as well, though the nature of the game itself (everything dies in droves, constantly) makes that somewhat difficult to really notice.

Few of Arcen Games' other works have the same sort of asymmetry to their player/npc interactions, as well. Last Federation, Bionic Dues, even the Valley stuff... it's pretty common to their designs.

Pretty sure Distant Worlds can be set up similar to that third option, as well -- there can be nation specific victory conditions, iirc. Pretty sure there's a good handful of other 4x games that work like that... it's not exactly common, but it's not particularly unknown, either.

Several of the Civ games offer similar options, though anyone can pursue any particular one, rather than a particular faction being locked in to certain victory conditions. Still, you had disparate victory conditions available.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto probably counts, too. Fairly radically different factions, albeit with fairly similar goals.

Shouldn't that be six millenia then?
They were trying to be a little original, I guess.

No? I can't recall any part of D1 that was MP only...

... in other news, I'm going through a LP of an iOS JRPG called Chaos Rings. Have got to the first(?) big reveal, and it turns out the plotline of this game is apparently hatesex and ten millennium of incest and inbreeding. Seems like whoever wrote the plot got their genetics lesson from Genesis instead of a biology textbook :V

You can't run or even go faster than the normal walking speed[snip]
Wasn't there some kind of teleport/blink spell? Could swear I remember blinking around in D1.

It's entirely possible I just have that memory because I actually played the multiplayer a fair bit, though. Similarly, there were definitely ways around that casting animation :V

Still pretty fondly remember lolrolling over the highest difficulty in MP with machinegun fireballs. Shit went down in D1. Them early iteration multiplayer games and their more or less complete lack of hack protection :3

Yes, and sorta'. If you haven't played since it first came out, there is a tremendous amount of new stuff all across the board, from the early game to the late. The latest patch seems to have sprinkled stuff all throughout, as well, albeit with a bit of a focus on the late game stuff. Still, you're not looking at any particular grind at all to reach new content, if your baseline is immediately after initial release. New stuff compared to the early versions is just bloody everywhere.

You are looking at a fair bit of effort to get to the higher end stuff, though. Progression's fairly organic, but you still may end up mining or farming critters more than you'd particularly like to, at points. Especially if you're not terribly familiar with the game already, or aren't leaning on a wiki.

... spider armor? That... that wasn't there before, was it? I don't remember that. Shame the helmet doesn't really look all that spidery.

... huh. Was the night vision helmet in the last version?

Also, noticed what you do with desert fossils! Glad I found the right thing in a house somewhere underground >_> Extractionjigger, for those who haven't noticed yet.

... if there's one thing this uptick in arson has taught me that I didn't know before, it's that a lot of churches burn down in this country. Apparently we've been averaging one a week for quite a few years now. Seven in one is a definitely anomaly, but the things burn down pretty regularly. Has a lot to do with saturation, I suppose... lot of churches out there, bound to lose some annually.

Tangential to the whole assholes committing arson thing, but still a factoid I hadn't been aware of.

... huh. Apparently I get 2 FPS in multiplayer. Max >_>

Admittedly my SP performance isn't exactly amazing, but... yeah.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you've got an incredibly low threshold for getting glued. Even with an upsized tablet, the flat fact is that the UI for mobile games are just kinda' unilaterally shit (unless you happen to have some sort of peripheral to plug into the thing, anyway), to an extent that your standards have to be pretty damn low to actually get stuck in a game played on tablet or phone. Even if it's an otherwise good game, such as bringing an emulator into the picture or somethin', actually playing the ruddy things is just kinda' miserable, if you've ever been meaningfully exposed to a PC or proper console/handheld.

... now, if you have any particular attraction to reading the things are basically the devil, especially once you get .html and the normal spread of e-book attachments working on the machine. They're actually pretty damn good for that, particularly the larger touchscreen ones.
