General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

Water wise, drinking a significant amount in one go is pretty much never a good idea, regardless of your physical state. Liquid in general, really. Dehydration and overexertion can both make it a worse idea, though, yes. The whole "feel like you want to vomit" thing was from downing too much at once, and happens pretty much regardless when you overimbibe. Break up the amount drank over a longer period.

For the baseline, liquid intake should be around 2 liters a day for a average critter (it varies a bit by person, and what you're drinking can have an effect, but if you're getting at least that much, you're probably in decent shape). If you're getting that much and still feeling constantly thristy, consult a doctor ASAP. As others have noted, it can be a sign of pretty serious medical conditions.

... okay, folks. This discussion has crapped up the WTF thread for like four or five pages in the default ppp. Please get out.

Pretty sure we actually have threads for the AI discussion. Go resurrect them and go away.

I... want to say you just need the one, to keep things from insta-dying. Pretty sure that's how it works with Ermor and Lemuria, anyway. Just need the one king or point of PD to have the buggeroff huge pile of freespawn that's been collecting in a province all join in the defense. Could be misremembering, though...

You might also consider HnI's manga!

... if you've got like a week to set aside and read it. Or a year or two or somethin'. Not sure if it's the longest manga series in existence, but it's definitely one of the top few. 110 volumes... and counting. More or less continuous serialization since 1989.

... Biblical Jesus was a boozehound and a half. If you were talking from the direction of reducing intake, that's the wrong religious critter to look towards. Now modern day Jesus... I guess some of those latin mixes could put you off the drink. Possibly by just flat killing you, but that's the risk you take, apparently.

Frumple takes no responsibility if you end up as a Tijuana prostitute afterwards, though. That's on you. And the live scorpion that was in the bottle.

Mm. There's pretty good odds I've actually been by (though not in) the church that burnt down in Tallahassee... that actually could have been incidental, for what it's worth -- we've been having some pretty good storms for the last bit down here, and a tree limb coming down on the power line is definitely a thing that happens from time to time in this region. Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't, though :-\

... does spectre just flat not have the lifesteal anymore? It's been long enough since I've played with the high end stuff I've legit forgot. I do distinctly remember it not being the best set for damage, but still arguably the best mage set just because of the extra bits.

Chloro's leaf thingy is not to be underestimated, by the by. It's actually pretty solid on the damage side of things, from what I recall. Think it may have actually been a better ranged set than caster, though... like I said, it's been quite a bit since I last mucked with T's stuff.

Also yeah, popped on to the server for a mo', make sure I could and everything still ran smoothly-ish. Seemed to! Looking forward to tuesday, but definitely not playing until then, heh.

... isn't any gun a heart attack gun if you shoot them in the heart?

E: Oh wow. Has anyone else noticed what the white house did with their lighting?

There's days you get the feeling Obama actually is having a bit of genuine fun in these last years of the presidency.

*shrugs* If they did, it's an overstep that's been performed repeatedly in the past (read: It almost certainly isn't.). The court decision is precisely in line with several other similar cases that have included stuff under the 14th's protection.

Which is actually sorta' the problem. Little bit more reading has shown it was actually a kinda' shitty decision,* primarily because of how little it actually did, as well as being a kinda' poor bit of actually... judge-y stuff. Instead of actually solving the goddamn issue on a judicial level (like, say, making sexual orientation a strict scrutiny issue, which could have been done years ago and nipped a whole hell of a lot of bullshit in the bud), the SCOTUS has just sorta' brought SSM whole cloth and singularly into the 14th (very roughly paraphrasing, and with a very much lay understanding of the legal stuff involved). One of the more insightful bits I've read so far was this post, on another forum (you'd be fairly well benefited mostly ignoring the rest of the thread it's in :V), decently detailing a fair amount of the actual issues involved.

It almost certainly wasn't constitutional overreach, though. Bit on the bad side of craft, but historically well within the court's power, insofar as I've been able to tell, if a power they've been fairly careful about exercising.

*Mind you, the consequence of SSM being legal is goddamn golden. It could have just been done significantly better.

Oh gods, in before bohandas ;_;

Here's the wiki page. It's a trade agreement that has been drumming up a fair amount of fuss due to how they've been going about constructing it, insofar as I'm aware of the broad strokes. The controversy section should shed some light.

From what I understand, one of the nastier bits of it would be allowing corps to sue signatory nations over... y'know, stuff like copyright infringement, and who knows how much legally pretzel'd tripe meant to drive profits through legislation. But there's apparently other stuff, too. I haven't really paid that much attention to it *shrugs*

... you know, on consideration, there's an absolutely terrible chrono trigger fanfic in that word, GC. The chrono/frog combination that everyno one wanted to see.

Kinda' curious now as to how many games set themselves up for that with X-Slash combos, actually...

Orkz don't do any of that but the third. Whoever doesn't run away fast enough shows up gets shanghai'd, if you perform poorly you get shot and probably ate. Keeps things simple.

Dance off is about the only way a lone human can survive an encounter with a waaagh, though. So their methods have their upsides.

Let's outline the actual case here.[snip]
Just want to say cheers, palsch, for the most genuinely informative post yet made in this thread. You're too good to us ;)

I am surprised the games weren't made with the intent of big servers in mind. Like... possibly having multiple worlds in a server.
For what it's worth, I imagine that's because Red and co. weren't actually the most impressive of programmers when the project started up. Dude was a practiced and motivated amateur, but mostly self-taught, iirc, and from what I recall people speaking of it Terraria's netcode isn't the most amazing in the land. I'd be fairly comfortable betting that the game wasn't designed that sort of thing just because the programming team didn't think they could handle it.

Could give plain space marines a shot, then... they've got an end-game building that's more or less a global detector (and reveals more or less the entire map at the same time). Most commanders are either natural detectors or upgradeable to being one, too, for what that's worth. Inquisitors have a detector unit that, while flimsy, has pretty ridiculous range, too... and that's discounting the Damocles stuff, or putting auspex on turrets (which are immobile, but the range is again huge) or somethin'. Most of the factions have at least a couple sources of keen sight that's both mobile (and/or with a massive detection range) and not-entirely-squishy.

@ tell; The total cost for a getting a vespid squad up to full health is 1,040 requisition. They are cheaper than the equivalent inq critters -- the GK Terminators, which come in full reinforced at 1330 req and 320 power  -- but they're still pretty expensive darn expensive (you can buy up about two full squads of the lesser GKs for roughly the cost of a single vespid squad, ferex. Only has about 2/3rds the HP, total, but fairly significantly better in most other ways for the cost). Requisition cost is three dead vespids from equalizing, and the individual GKs have significantly better resistances, as near as I can tell. Plus overall better damage output, iirc. Bit worse at tying stuff up, though, true.

Seriously though, the vespids don't really seem that out of line with equivalent research stuff, cost/effectiveness wise. End-game stuff gets beefy, and for all their meat the vespids aren't that impressive in other areas. Don't really see them as a competitive advantage m'self, basically.
