Ah. Yeah, that makes more sense, n. They usually hammer each other pretty hard in the primaries though, don't they? Least they have the last few I can recall. Going at it even harder should be... amusing. And messy.

And wierd, that sort of asshat politician doesn't run for president, they buy presidents. Or just enough of congress for their desires. It's usually significantly cheaper to just graft in whatever you want instead of bleed money actually running for president, especially if their only option is to run independent. Because those folks really aren't that stupid -- they're well aware running third party means they're not going to get president, and that no amount of money is going to change that. The folks that do that generally aren't doing so to actually try to win, they're running to get their message heard on a larger stage. And folks like the Koch critters don't need their message heard on a larger stage, they just need the right people bribed generously donated to.

Oh, one or two sometimes will, from what I recall. It's not terribly unusual for one or two candidates to go independent after losing the primaries. It's just that nothing comes of it, if they're even able to get on the ballot afterwards at all.

... last I checked, they're not really that split, though, nenj. Republicans are pretty notorious for being one of the most staunchly party-voting groups in the US political sphere. If the tea-party preferred candidate doesn't win the primary, most of that group is still going to vote for whoever does. Do believe we are getting some splintering, but it's still not really substantial from a ballot marking perspective.

Basically, we're probably not at the point you can really expect the vote to split, yet. Getting there, maybe, but not there.

... that primaries exist?

I guess you might be able to jump a wall if you hit a real speedbump going fast enough? You might need something fairly low to the ground, and I think there's a good chance you wouldn't land wheels down, but still.

... assuming the debt doesn't grow commensurately, anyway.

14182
... didn't some of the mario kart levels actually have speed bumps, though? Usually as obstacles to be avoided. I distinctly remember raised bars in the ground that would bump you around and slow you down if you drove over them.

... y'know, I think I just had the sound on with a hell drake on the field for the first time. That. That is a noise.

Mm... I think there's actually a picture of it some few years back, but my default reading coloration is a dark blue background with grey text. S'about as soothing I've managed to find, personally, though darkling's a close runner-up. Between that, zooming in, and f.lux, reading on the computer is considerably less straining than it was years back, heh.

Jeez, I didn't quite realize how much more stark bold is in default view compared to darkling. Yet another comparative virtue of soothing darkling ;_;

Hrm. Re: Necrons, does the latest version not have the attack scarabs? Looks like the version of UA I've had loitering around my computer for a while is a bit out of date, but it does, and, well.

Well. After a couple skirmishes to remind myself what the game's like, I'm currently wondering what you do to stop someone that's decided to direct their rally point at your base and right click on attack scarabs :V The things roll over turrets, upgraded listening posts, pretty much everything in the first tier or two of tau, eldar, or DE troops, so far...

Just mopped up two standard AIs doing pretty much nothing but spamming those things at 'em. It... it was kinda' sad. And a little chuggy, at the end. Since there was a like a dozen and change scarab squads drowning everything in chittery little bodies :V

Probably some way of telling, somewhere in the lore or mechanics. Anyone ever tried to stuff a servitor into one of those eldar soul dingus whatsits? Has to have been an ordo xenos radical or madboy or somethin' that gave it a shot. Probably some warpcraft interaction somewhere in there that'd give you a good idea, too...

E: Though now all I can think of is a WH40k version of WILL IT BLEND!? except with soulstones or whatever those things are. Cats, 'nids, squigs, machine spirits, just some crazy mechboy running around the galaxy seeing exactly what fits inside one of those fancy rocks.

E2: Wait, no, there's the thought of a chaos possessed industrial blender depopulating hive worlds. That'd be pretty amazing. "Will it blend, corpse worshipers!? Tzeentch will make it blend!" And then there's the whirring noise and the squelching and the rending metal and the screaming and *happy sighs*

E3: And its name would be WORLD-MULCHER. That's a good, hyphenated, name.

Most accurate, perhaps, but not entirely. I'd not even say terribly accurate at all, really (though perhaps moreso than attributing it to any other single feature of a D4 round). The full MP game I was in, I think I was actually one of the nations in the game with the lowest total research (I was pretty significantly behind my team-mates, in that particular disciples game), but there was still plenty of work being done. The one I subbed in for, the nation I took over almost definitively had the most research done out of any nation in play... and had been more or less stomped on, pretty hard.

There's not really any primary factor to what determines victory in a Dominions game, I'd say. You need research, but it's useless if you can't leverage it, and it can get you killed if the forces and gold you're allocating to RP generation is what you need to keep from getting stepped on. You need provinces, but they're useless if they're not doing anything for you, or you can't keep them. SCs are great, but they're not helping you much if someone's got a cadre of astral mages dropping VotD on them every turn and you don't have enough MR on the critter to stop it, or the various other sorts of shenanigans being played. Awesome mages do jack-all if you're losing them in droves to slim kit assassins. The list just sorta' goes on.

What triumphs in a Dominions game is getting what you need(/can) and using it well, be that research, provinces, gems, particular troops, or all of the above and then some. Victory in these games seem to be more a balancing act than anything, with whoever balances best coming out ahead.

I'd... actually kinda' doubt it. The states had straight up socialist/communist political groups for a little bit, iirc. An actual leftist movement. My brain's out of it enough I can't really recall how much bernie hearkens back to the older stuff, but if it's a major divergence from what paths have been tread before I'd be a lil' surprised. Don't actually know, though. I pay attention to sanders to more or less the exact extent he influences the major political stuff (which is to say little).

It's definitely better in multiplayer, but it's still pretty darn engaging in single player, especially until you get settled in to it. It's fairly easy to find a dominions game to join in on, though. Just be aware that they tend towards being long -- the one I've been in so far took somewhere around six months, all told, to run to completion, though it's not uncommon for things to take less time than that. If you're into paradox stuff, you might be interested enough in dominions.

My recommendation: Try the dominions 3 demo -- links are near the bottom of that page. It's close enough in general gameplay to get a good feel for dom 4, which is mostly D3 with fairly significant UI, playability, and content improvements. If that gets your attention, and you've got the cash for it, grab Dom 4.

Also, we have a dom 4 thread, and there's several games being ran in play with your buddies -- plenty of stuff to gander at and get a feel for how all things dominions play out.
