That's also like 300 somethin' posts a day, though, which ain't exactly nothin'.

Eyeballing the stats does explain why it doesn't really feel that slow to me -- I'm pretty sure I calibrated my normal within a year or two of joining, and, well.

I mean... if you're not going to conquer the afterlife and rule it with a rowdy ancestral fist, why are you even playing barbarian? That urge and goal is realistically the entire reason that faction exists.

I can't really tell much of a difference. Feels about the same as ever, to me, 'least in GD and OG... but I also just don't really notice activity fluctuations all that much to begin with, so *shrugs*

Biggest blip is novel spamming out a bunch of threads for the last while, now. Maybe wherever you were hiatusing was just much more active and the difference is throwing you off?

Eh, probably better than not having them, or whatever hell monstrosity a GOP lead proposal would entail, for what that's worth. "Good enough" isn't quite the right phrase for it, but the concept is somewhere in that general area.

Fucked up as our political system is, to a degree there's only so much point wondering about optimization or maximal efficiency if you can get something through. How well it pans out is kinda' an unhelpful question so long as it's at least some sort of improvement, given the difficulties involved in getting anything that tops that :-\

but anyway it'd be called the Hypnotoad Herald

you're all welcome for solving the naming issue

e: the byline would be "Praising the Toad since 420 BCE"

French does, iirc, though I don't remember what any of them are right now.

... also, english being itself, it's not entirely true that only pronouns get gender. Bachelor, as a common example, is not a pronoun, and also not neutral, and there's a pile of things like it. Pretty sure that when we have suffixes or whatever that indicate it, we steal them from other languages but not always the same language, because of course we do.

That's... weird shit to put in a mod. Have they given, like, any reason it's there? The hell are they trying to do with it?

It's word endings, actually. It's at least internally consistent, generally.
I get the feeling that "generally" is doing enough lifting one could reasonably confuse it with a very drunk person playing darts :P

They... did a remaster for tactics ogre on the vita, too, though? Just eyeballing that trailer I actually can't tell what the difference is between the most recent Vita one and this one, other than it being ported to more recent systems. Legally available on PC is a neat hat trick, though.

also yeah, another stab at Ogre Battle is like literally the only thing in the gaming world that could get me to pay full price for a game these days. Hell, I'd pre-order that thing. Closest I've seen since PS2 days is an RPG maker thing (Symphony of War, came out a few months ago) that's... okay, but it ain't no ogre battle. Too much fire emblem in its design, not enough neat stuff going on with positioning, far more limited unit roster, etc.

Yeah, when I encountered that while taking french language classes, myself and my classmates agreed the only reasonable explanation for the word gendering choices was that whoever made those decisions got astoundingly drunk and played a game of darts to decide what was what.

I can't recall ever hearing about a gendered language like that that actually had, like, a pattern to its assignments. Drunken pub games work better as a explanation that anything else I've seen.

If there's not already a thread for that in FG&RP or creative projects, you'd probably be more than welcome to make one in one of those boards.

I just don't think there's much point in worrying about what specifically is or isn't one. It's not like you couldn't do an RL without tiles, just by riffing on a tabletop movement schema, nevermind any other options (being a sidescroller ferex... iirc either Megaman or Metroid RL was one, if spelunky is a bridge too far for you). Can't recall any tabletop-y ones of the top of my head, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't one out there, somewhere.

Mostly if the devs say it is one, or a substantial amount of its playerbase, that's good enough for me. There's nothing necessary to being a roguelike, just a pile of various sufficients that may or may not be enough on its own. Berlin interpretation's fun, because even when it originally was posited, that's basically it's conclusion -- that nothing on its list is necessary, it's just the more points you have the more roguelike-y you are.

End of the day roguelike's a useful enough descriptor that it's led me to dozens upon dozens of things I really enjoy playing, even when whatever's been labeled with it is near entirely divorced from the originating core of the genre, and I don't need anything more than that from a video game genre :V

Not... because of that, though? Stuff like that highlights long trips for basically everyone, in my experience. Plenty of folks remember the awesome bridge they went over/past on the trip.
