... well, if that's your response, russia's sudden decision to shit on non-proliferation makes more sense. Being able to commit suicide must be pretty important to the national character...

In the Eifel (small mountain range in the west of Germany) there's still loads of mines. The thing is, they're glass mines, meaning it's very hard to remove them. So we don't bother and simply put up warning signs :P
I have to suddenly wonder, has anyone considered just throwing rocks at the area until stuff stops exploding? So long as there's nothing there you want standing, just set up a few dozen catapults and hurl stone at the joint until it's safe to walk around.

Our own computers have the (potential, if they're assembled from home-made parts) advantage of 100% certainly not having foreign hardware spy-thingies (like programs or backdoors or whatnot) inserted into them.
Can see how that'd be a concern for military or whatev', but for civilian machines... shouldn't you guys be more worried about domestic hardware tampering?

From what I understand, that's more likely to be a thing just in general. Foreign powers are usually only really interested in spying on a few specific targets -- do sometimes try a sort of wide-net thing, but logistics wise it's pretty iffy for 'em -- but domestic ones are a lot more likely to be interested in and capable of spying on people in general. And considering the background of who's at the head over there...

So... were they? Speeding?

Have to admit, I'm sympathetic to the problems with equipment error and corruption and whatnot, but the whole "But I got caught" thing is just...

... which would make the next step enthusiastic arboreal discourse, I guess?

Probably not. They'd need to be subsidized, anyway, and good luck convincing people making the budget to actually allocate funds towards making their opponents more coherent.

Providing the option might be a pretty good idea, though. Tuition credits for such classes for first time elected, something like that.

Maybe not the best at that part, though. You get a few stories every year of someone deciding it get up and go hit someone with a stick because of internet stuff. The true stickless experiment will only be able to begin after we have a method of enforcing blanket anonymity for a discussion.

The internet's the prototype, I guess. Experiment to see what happens when it's fairly difficult for the folks involved to hit each other with a stick.

E: Though I guess the experimental results falls along the lines of even less people hitting each other with a stick than in normal discourse, but some particularly obsessive few still figuring out a way to whack someone. Humans are very possessive of their ability to inflict violence on one another, sometimes...

Didn't someone else complain that yahoo news was becoming worse than it used to be recently?
Pretty sure that was Shonus, yes.

And gig, sometimes there's nothing else to eat, and meat is meat.

No, just the 10. There's not going to be any Windows after that, apparently. 10's the last. All praise the holy rebranding!

(No, we do not have any of those touch screen monitors for it, ain't paying extra for useless fancy things that can break.)
Eesh, the thought of a touch screen monitor being used by the relatively untrained sends shivers down my pocketbook. Even if it's not my pocketbook that would paying for it. Sympathetic fiscal shivers. I've seen what people who don't really know what they're doing do to non-touchscreen monitors -- my spine crawls every time I see one jab a LCD screen like they tend to -- and the thought of the force they'd probably put behind one that actually responds to that is just chilling. So much damage ;_;

This. I think people underestimate how ingrained it is in US culture - in the early 20th century there were tons of minstrel show themed toys/knickknacks and racist caricature characters were everywhere.
No joke, I actually saw someone using a blackface mask in a high school play (rendition of the King and I) just a couple weeks ago, as part of the uncle tom's cabin play-within-play. It... it was a thing.

Honestly, about a quarter of that play in general was just kinda' screwed up. I think I had forgotten the thing was partially built off offensive caricatures.

Who remembers An American Tail?
Fievel goes west, Z. He goes west.

Or both. Ichigo's father gets around, don't question the logistics, it's magic.
