More like up Canadas ass. I don't think Russians even care about Alaska anyway.
Hats don't have butts, friendo. At least not not-incredibly-gauche ones.

And yeah, grak, the US does have private security doing localized policing for individual interests, as well as private interests with the ability to investigate and detain (to limited degrees). Looking at the article, though, yeah, y'all seem to intend to take it to the next (inevitably horrifying) level. Good luck with that.

Anachronox (Barely post-PSX style sci-fi RPG), the legacy of kain stuff (dark-style legend of zeldas, more or less), startopia (sorta' like a sci-fi dungeon keeper, but not), maybe omikron (cannot remember why I remember this), dungeon siege 1 & 2* (alright hack-and-slash RPGs. 3 I've never played.). All I noticed that I've played or seen played that seemed might be recommendable.

SupCom 2 might be an option providing you've never played supcom 1. Would probably recommending finding SC1 instead.

They don't seem to have that almost-ogre-battle-like Last Remnant that my computer can't really manage to run that folks seem to think is mediocre but I kinda' like. So I can't recommend that one. 'Cause it ain't there.

*If you go for 2, and if possible, I totally suggest finding a version with non-english voice acting and english subtitles. The english dub is trash, but the german one is pretty incredible (sounding, I have no ruddy clue if the translation's accurate).

... if the screen's a decent enough size -- the kindle family threw at me, ferex -- it's... really kinda' painless, personally. I barely use it for typing and can already almost touch-type the thing. Generally they replace tactile feedback with audio feedback, and make sure the button thingies are big enough you don't have much trouble with fatfingering. Add in using the standard <local default> keyboard layout and it's... not that bad. Not bad at all, really. Bit slower and less comfortable than a normal keyboard, but it's also taking up about half the space one of those does and being an entire (albeit weak) computer.

Those phone ones are a massive pain the ass, though. Way too small and cramped. Nearly as bad as the keypad ones that don't even bother with an onscreen keyboard.

... that's a pretty good idea. You should do it. Could probably get people to buy it from you, if the quality's good enough. Know plenty of art-folks that wouldn't mind a resource like that.

Lucifer's just a translation corruption of morning star (which is in that passage). That's literally all the word was, until it got shanghai'd into the Adversarial katamari ball. It was never really a name proper. People just started capitalizing it for... I'unno, it's a sexy word I guess. Good enough reason, I suppose...

Just like Satan isn't actually a name that's in the original translation. It's all adversary and opposer and whatnot. Non-human bad guys aren't actually named very often in the canon texts, so far as I can recall.

General Discussion / Re: Help with finding a good Mp3 player?
« on: May 25, 2015, 12:13:56 pm »
I've had a little 2 gig MuVo (v100) Creative mp3 player for, uh. Probably six or seven years now, at the minimum? Probably longer. Had it so long I can't remember when I got it. Got it as a gift, though, and checking current prices it looks like it's outside the price range you're looking for. Still, for a no-frills mp3 player that apparently lasts a while, I'd recommend it.

No clue what's on the market these days, unfortunately, so all I can really do is wish you luck. It looks like there's a lot of sub-30 mp3 players putzing around the market at the moment, but quality wise there's no telling.

Sure. I couldn't tell you how much actual power they have, though. Personally, I don't really hear much about them doing anything, which sorta' makes sense considering most of 'em in the states seem more internal than anything.

Not sure if there's any for law enforcement, though. Those... well, it should be obvious by now they're kinda' just a wee titch rampant at the moment, without much in the way of actual reigns.

Science is well known at this point for being historically (and, largely, currently) male dominated, to the point it's caused occasional problems with experimental methodology and whatnot. Conceptually it's gender neutral, practically it's had its troubles.

That said, it's pretty obvious they're redefining patriarchy as low care/high knowledge instead of anything actually resembling reality, so oddities are kinda' expected. I mean, the thing is describing a market economy as the perfect fusion of care and knowledge, which is a pile of horseshit so heaping it could bury the colossus of Rhodes.

– Fourth Wave Feminism is associated with Patriarchy?
Can't remember if it's the fourth or not, but there's definitely one of the waves that's associated with reinforcing stereotypical gender roles, which is probably where that originates. Basically part of the feminism movement is associated with patriarchy (and by and large diametrically opposed to, y'know, the rest of it).

– "The Axis of Care" starts at Right Totalitarianism? (The origin of Axis Powers is Care?!)
Starts, yes, which means that's the lowest point available. Arrow end is high care, flat end is low care. Right Totalitarianism would be least care possible.

I can appreciate from a point of amusement that an incredibly soft-(pseudo)science graph shits on the soft sciences as being a point of knowledge, though. That's a good one.

Nah, that's accurate. Americops are trained to double-tap the center of mass as the default if shooting starts, last I heard of it. Shoot to center is the general arms training, really. Incapacitating shots are a no-no. Whatever foul european dark majiks allow the eurocop forces to actually manage those, our training administration believes they're not viable for upstanding american officers.

... as the post says, I live in a place where the police are pretty damned corrupt and tend to let white folks off with a slap to the wrist, if that. South-eastern US, more generally. Folks in general are supportive towards cops in every way that counts. Same people still say what amounts to get on your knees and pray, and if you don't you get what's coming to you.

SG nailed the attitude right on the head, and it's ruddy prevalent from everything I've seen. May be starting to change, but it's definitely a significant population holding that view.

14444
That alone puts me in significant disagreement with a great many people who will shrug at almost any case and say "Well that's what happens when you don't worship police officers as gods without question or hesitation in every interaction with them."
I don't think many people on the street would say anything like that...
Um. They kinda' do? Pretty much every personal interaction I've had with people talking about how to react to police in person basically boils down "Comply immediately and do not question anything or else". Do not talk back, do not question, do not express personal rights, do not move funny, do absolutely nothing that is not functionally laying supine and offering your nethers. And hell, that's been for white folks more than most, in an area that's corrupt as the blazes and has the cops letting the white population get away with some pretty hefty shit.

Most people on the streets I've physically met say the next step from that, verbatim.
