General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

... Ketchum's dad is... we don't even know who that is. He gets like zero screen time, and we have no idea what he does.

Yugi's is pretty much exactly the same. Conceptually (word of god) he works, but doing what, and where? Zog if anyone knows. Functionally (actually?) zero screen time, the dude could be freaking dead for all anyone actually knows.

Not sure why you've got two ichigo's on there. The bleach one... not married. Widower, and his career is specifically a front. Same with many of the dads in digimon, actually -- divorced or widowed is common in those ones. Digimon's definitely better about it than a lot of things, though.

Tsukino'd definitely work as an example -- he's actually there and has a job the viewer can identify. Chunk of that particular list is iffy at best, though...

sweet bughumping zeus goddamn no to that second one. I neither want to know nor want other people to know if I or they are buying fleshlights, bloody thankyou. Or any number of other things. My boss doesn't need to know and I don't want my boss to know if I regularly peruse smutty romance novels or <insert next step on chain of command in organization> helpbooks, because I goddamn guarantee you stuff like that would constantly cost people jobs for incredibly stupid shit that has absolutely zero to do with their on-the-job capability.

That's also more or less a nightmare for any oppressed minority that would have consumption tells. Transsexual? Crossdresser in general? Something like public facing consumption records is basically a great big nagot gick fucked to them.

That said, if just the raw currency unit transfer, aggregated at the end of the month, was available to the public... maybe. It would still cause all sorts of social bullshit that could be easily avoided by just not freaking doing that (conspicuous consumption would suddenly become a lot more conspicuous, ferex, and gods know nobody sane actually wants that), but it would allow for identifying anomalous fiscal activity to be crowdsourced instead of left in the hands of some non-publically viewable organization. Still sounds like a recipe for complete disaster, and viciously mangling your nose for the purpose of washing your chin (not even managing the whole face!) or some shit, but at least the most immediately egregious problems would be mitigated, somewhat.

Geh. Nightmare scenario, waugh. Google and the gov't having that information is bad enough.

Does anyone ever feel like... People Remember "Captain Kirk" in a COMPLETELY inaccurate way to how he was in the show?

Like... for example
1) He never has sex with women
2) He usually manipulates women in order to betray them later

Like he REALLY didn't come off as a ladies man... even with the standards of the time it was made. Honestly where the HECK did people pick up on this "ladies man" persona?
1)He had a kid.

And it wasn't some freaky trek-thing. It came out the normal way. There was actually a second one by a different mother that apparently didn't make it -- died when the mother did.

2)That's part of the media notion of a ladies man, yes. Bond more or less worked the same way.

Also here. A list. A fairly long one. Even in-universe Kirk had a reputation, heh.

Live action winnie the pooh sounds goddamn terrifying.

You care, SG. Most of the electorate doesn't really give a shit about things like values, critical thinking, or integrity, unfortunately. Other priorities, like whether the lack of that first or third is going to help or hinder them on a personal level, or if their currently displayed (facsimile of) values match their own.

Vaccutek, maybe? Sounds better, t'me. Not 'punk, but it aligns with something like a magitek setting...

Though I think magic punk stuff already has arcanopunk or something like that.

I'd suggest tubepunk, but frankly that sounds like something you'd see in porn instead of normal fiction.

... so hey, necro. Game has gone into open beta... today? I think? If anyone's interested that wasn't in on the closed. I haven't downloaded yet, myself, but probably will sooner or later -- I've been watching a fair amount of HotS videos and it looks like a faintly interesting variation on the AoS formula, for once. Slimmed down more than I'd really prefer, but maybe in a good way.

Anyway, heads up for folks that didn't know about it, et al.

Teapotpunk

...Yea that does kinda make anything it's with sound better.
... y'know, if you make that teapot a reference to russel's, that might actually make an interesting vaguely absurdist setting. Tech powered by stuff that's conceptually there, but unprovable (or near infinitely unlikely to be proved) and unproven, with a great many very intelligent people very pointedly not investigating things to keep the world powered. The great villain of the setting could be someone that's actually started "collecting teapots," so to speak, causing massive destabilization across the world/galaxy/whatever as impossible clarktech starts to fail.

Probably some kind of practicality thing. I rather imagine you'd start having preference detecting spells in wide use just as soon as love of Gouda started powering strategic-level thaumaturgic WMDs.

Or in a very developed setting that's actually reigned in the death world aspect sufficiently that people can stop dying long enough to develop and thoroughly disseminate frivolous spells.

Spells like what you're talking about probably actually exist in these worlds -- insane epic level casters are something that can exist, after all -- they're just not really in use because folks have other things on the mind (like the orc invasion, or demon incursion, or rampaging death cultists, or etc., etc., etc.).

2nd, genocide is not encouraged as an act of good.
It totes is. You specifically have wars of annihilation against sentients (such as demons/devils, various goblinoids, etc.) waged and supported by Good spectrum forces, including divinities that are supposed to be what amounts to physical incarnations of the concept in-universe. Comes up in most campaign settings based off D&D.

As for D&D being a general setting, yes, it sorta' is. The mechanics and general style built up by its core rules and representative campaigns lead towards a certain sort of world. That you were able to list a set of specific settings that all share very similar conceits -- what we're talking about here would be right at home in any of those -- should make that pretty clear. You can build something that significantly diverges from it, but when someone says D&D style it should be pretty obvious what they're talking about.

It sounds like it's pretty discriminate killing being talked about, though. Just mass murder of a specific subgroup (the subgroup in question being "everything not good-aligned"). And D&D/pathfinder/etc. is a setting where genocide and xenocide is often considered an and encouraged as an act of good, so... mass murder is generally not a thing that is considered inherently immoral in these joints.

Oh aye, it's surprisingly legit. The only odd thing to me about it is the specificity of it* -- I would have assumed the work would have been part of a more general pediatric/obstetric care position or somethin' like that. But no, they apparently have just one person (or several, I'unno how many lactation consultants the facility would employ) that handles it in particular, which is... interesting? I guess. Helluva' job title, though.

... y'know, I've got a job opening dingus RSS'd. Think it's actually the main fed one or something. Occasionally things pop up in there that...

... well.

I wasn't expecting the army to have an opening looking for "Lactation Consultant."

Which is apparently a job position! I didn't know that. I do now. There's a position open at Fort Bragg :V

Yeah, it's. I... honestly, it's kinda' fun, but... not really what I'd call a martial arts manga, exactly. Sort of an "Is but isn't" sort of thing. Too shounen :V

Have you read the Breaker stuff? Faintly remember it being pretty alright. There's a fairly notable amount of martial arts themed manwha, really. Depends on what you're looking for -- there's some really serious stuff, less serious stuff, junk like Kenichi...

Actually, looking at it, most manga joints online seem to have a martial arts tag. Search and filter, heh.
