The whole "evil" side of alignment is stupid. "Selfish" would be a better choice.
Eh, not in D&D/pathfinder/etc. universes, usually. Evil is, like, an actual thing there, with its own pantheon of concept enforcers, physical manifestations, etc., etc. It generally is kinda' stupid, but that's usually true for just about anything in those settings that actually adheres to an alignment -- anything that does that is going to be mono-focused to a degree they start missing things. A pure expressions of any of the alignments is basically full blown insanity.

You just have to think of those settings as, beyond the general hellworld thing, what amounts to battlegrounds between conceptual, lovecraft-style, eldritch gods that just happen to take a less immediately mind-destroying form in favor of a more insidious insanity dispersal method. You're not really dealing with stupid, per se, as you are with Other. Stuff that, when you get right down to it, is fundamentally inimical to life as we generally know it. You'll note well that most of the alignment planes in those universes don't manage to support a baseline human population :V

Selfish Chaotic character would not go and randomly do evil stuff that would certainly cause his/her death, for one.
Well, sure, but what we'd consider lolrandom evillulz of self-destructive attention-grabbing in a sane, stable universe, is stuff that can very much literally provide unlimited cosmic power in these places. Capital-E Evil is something that has significant metaphysical and magical backup in these places. What would be guaranteed death in a sane world is very much not in the hellscapes that most P&P RPG settings consist of.

... didn't have... what the hell? What the hell?

Are you sure you aren't thinking something like '85? In '05 I was definitely finding out about video games via the 'net more than just about anything. Gaming and the net started its relationship in full swing something like the mid 90s -- '95, '96, somewhere in that range. Did you know the first fully playable fan translation on romhacking came out in '97?

If you're just talking about as a kid in general, before consistent and personal internet access, yeah, back then it was nintendo power/other video game journals (which were generally kinda' awesome back in the 90s -- bloody huge things, pretty often. By '05 they were basically well past the point of starting to decline, iirc) and word of mouth more than anything. Browsing rental shops/video-game isles and grabbing whatever had the most interesting cover was pretty standard practice, too.

At least I'm not as bad as the wizard, who is a dark, broody type necromancer with an intense hard-on for murder and violence.
... is, uh. That being a necromancer. How literal...?

Pretty sure it wouldn't even work, for that matter. Blood doesn't really stay all that red for very long.

Also, neo, I just want to say that Lucha Judre would actually get me inside a synagogue, methinks. Those masks make basically everything better.

Now now desc, I've been to LA and it's not what you'd call irredeemably lost. Has its problems, but not the worst of places as cities go.

Might be a shame if it started sharing a diminutive with labour, though...

But it definitely doesn't count because being a Hermaphrodite and all that.
No, no. Futa is fine, too. Frankly, that or gender swap would probably be the most likely place to find something of such nature in anime.* Which is, like. Okay. I'm okay with that.

Really, when it comes right down to it, I just want some equivalence, y'know? Balance. The cheese/beef cake ratio should be in tune. I'm not even particularly fond of the latter, but it makes me sad when it's not as present.

*Well, or some obscure shoujo manga. They're at least faintly willing to roll with polyandry, and not unwilling to play the yuri card.

Harem in itself is not bad, but its introduction tends to apply a negative modifier to likeability for me, as they tend to detract from just about anything else more interesting and/or 'here is the protagonist with all the love interests after them, please relate yourself to the protagonist'.  Obviously I'm not the demographic being pandered to.
Mm... me, it's romance that is the baseline negative modifier more than what form it takes. I actually kinda' enjoy well constructed romance plots, but by default I'm notably more leery of a piece of media that includes it than one that doesn't. Tends to lead to really lazy character interactions or incredibly unhealthy relationships, even outside of anime. That said, it's a lot easier to initially hook me with an attempt at polyamory than it is with something more mundane. S'more exotic, y'know? Frumple likes the OT3+.

Even most harem setups in anime tend to functionally be monogamous with jealousy gags and fanservice thrown in, though. It's unfortunate. I mean, I generally like the fanservice but I could do without the jealousy, heh.

... actually, can anyone think of an anime that's full-on polyamorous? Not polygamic or polyandric, but something with more than one of both genders. Stuff's freaking rare period, not just in anime. Usually you get threesomes or one side going solo at best...

Ohhh no... I actually meant the rehabilitation rates saved enough money that it actually saved the city more money then it spent on it.
Ah. Yeah, that's still brainmushingly stupid, but not quite as mushingly. Just mostly.

They shut down a rehabilitation center not far from where I live for no other reason then "Ohhh, criminals shouldn't be treated well" in spite the fact that it was actually so successful it paid for itself.
Like... hold on, here. The center was literally paying for itself? Providing full funding through its own activities? And they shut it down?

... this is definitely the right thread for that, if so. That's some sincere nose chopping, right there.

Terrible is subjective, to a fair extent, and shows multifaceted. Personally, I'm still mildly amused by harem antics despite having watched anime and copiously perused fanfiction for the better part of two decades. It's not really a necessary malus t'me.

And there's a few things I don't mind watching/reading regardless of the harem aspect (Arifureta would probably be the most recent I can bother to remember). Even when it is a malus, that doesn't mean the show's a net loss.

Different strokes for different folks, and all that jazz.  I'd call it a guilty pleasure, but there stopped being any guilt involved a long time ago so :V

And it could be worse. It could be reality TV.

They appear to be. Unfortunately >_>

Are you saying that there HAS been sex ed that showed people how to masturbate, perform anal, and/or promoted non-hetero orientations as somehow better?
I'd personally be kinda' confused why the first two would be points against, myself. Safe practice for both of those would fall pretty comfortably under the umbrella of the subject in question, wouldn't it?

I've been hearing a bit about that for a while now, I think. Apparently some folks in canada are having issues with sex ed programs that are actually worth a damn? From what I recall the ones they're trying to implement are genuinely decent, for ruddy once. May be thinking of a different region, I'unno.

Which is, like. I'm from the states. I feel canada's pain. Huge swaths of this country act like they're allergic to a functioning sex ed curriculum.

At the very least, I can applaud the design of their title. Very NES, much wow. Near straight dragon quest rip, is nice.

Also character names being archtypes isn't a necessary point against! Maou Yuusha did the same thing and I think most of us can agree it's pretty darn decent.

... this one probably won't be, but still.

... I have no intention of actually watching that, but I will say the creators' nom de guerre are amazing.
