As amusing horrible amorrible as turning scotland into a KKV directed at the heart of toryland, I'm afraid that's currently not a fiscally viable plan of action. Perhaps for the next election cycle.

Well, that apparently didn't take long.

tl;dr, it looks like the newly elected government has immediately started looking into shitting on the disabled, in more or less direct contravention to campaign promises. Y'all are going to have a fun half decade :V

Graft? Nepotism? Turning tricks? Recruiter incompetence? Is usually one of those four.

is it physically possible to play techno with bagpipes?
I've had three or four different tracks in my playlists over the years titled some variation of "Techno bagpipes". And that's without even remotely trying to seek the stuff out. They actually go pretty damned well with your normal techno-inclined styling, imo. Youtube or whatev' would probably pop up several handfuls of examples. Peatbog Faeries in general is close enough I'd suggest 'em if you're actually interested.

impending EU referendum
Ooh, I had almost forgotten about that.

Any bets on how long it'll take until that comes up? Weeks, months? Days, years?

Aaaaand I see 323 for Tories.
Apparently 326 now. Which... is enough for a flat majority? I don't actually know, so, uh.

Congrats scotland, I guess. It would appear you (and the rest of the union) are still screwed, but at least you got SNP in there. I hope you UK/Scotland folks are still able to stick around after the tories cram that domestic spying bill through.

Incidentally GJ, I would recommend sock-shaped confectioneries instead of actual socks. Tastes better, less deadly. Or maybe a cookie you can technically wear as a sock or somethin'. Someone should bake one of those. More edible sock recipes in the world can only be a good thing.

Other Games / Re: What Sort of MUD Would B12G Play?
« on: May 07, 2015, 07:56:54 pm »
I think what it'd take to get me back in to mudding would be a fantasy version of that one (/couple) of RTS-style MUDs I played a little a long ways back, except primarily PvE. Necromancy, golem building, evil hoards, all that sexy stuff, set against some kind of huge encroaching menace. Bonus points if losing the proverbial fight isn't just a possibility but a likelihood, but not the end of personal progression. Probably compartmentalize it somewhat so it can scale both down and up depending on how many people are playing.

Alternately, if someone made Ogre Battle (with maybe more in-depth individual character progression and a smexy crafting/equipment system) in to an expansive text-based brawl, I would be drooling all over that and possibly failing to restrain myself from humping it.

Having a little trouble working out the politics: SNP, or Tory gloater?
Who, owl? Owl's a scot :V

... that's enough to answer the question, right? It seems like it at this point...

*waggles hand* It's pretty decent. Same general vector as stuff like Rave Master or One Piece. I wouldn't call it amazing, but it's not terrible painful to read/watch or anything.

And do search through ZnT's stuff, just... be discerning. It's fanfiction -- occasional nice stuff with great heaping mounds of drivel. Maybe go check the fanfic rec thread, it gets mentioned more than once in there.

Like day before yesterday or somethin', yes! Two new characters, new zones, new enemies in some places, buncha stuff. S'like a 400 meg patch. It's pretty great, excepting the part where it had me realize this whole yeti thing.

Though iirc on my first playthrough, I think I actually ran in to the raven, like, on the way to unlock the library or somethin'. Very early in the game, compared to when you probably should. That was a hell of a thing. Retries were involved.

E: Incidentally, if any of you happen to be playing valdis story for the first time, maybe don't buy the teddy bear as soon as you're able. Just... wait a bit. Maybe.

It's actually not quite like that if you're playing one of the new characters -- yeti-dude never actually drops in for dakkabro, and the altered plot basically shoos you off in the direction of the town that locks you out of the fight very, very quickly (it's like one dungeon and two bosses before you start trekking off towards firetown on vlad, compared to two or three dungeons and a few more bosses on th'other critters, and you immediately get access to a way to bypass the yeti's area entirely when you get back to town).

It's not been until my third friggin' playthrough that I even realized it was a thing that happened ;_; Sworddude and punchchick runs both ate the D/F rank and killed it early. Hopefully it'll be less painful with wingy by that point... actually got rolled over in the first frikkin' boss fight with her, but I'll be pointing cheat engine at it soon (giveum drops, all the drops!) so eh.

Though yeah, yetidude is brutal, same with the raven. Two of the harder boss fights in the game to get a good rank on. Will probably utterly wreck your face if you immediate turn heel and try to jump the bugger. And apparently a load bearing boss, which is just nasty ;_;

E: That load being something like a quarter of the game's NPCs -- if you don't beat a more-or-less end-game boss during the early game, it eats a forth of the game's towns. which is admittedly maybe not saying that much considering there's only four towns, but still...

gwarblefrigglewarblewark

who decides it's a good idea to have an optional (viciously difficult, at that point) boss early in the game be the load bearing stone for an end-game town (that contains like a quarter of the game's equipment >_<)? Why would you do that? Now the character is not just out of equipment, but halfway through the game and staring at the mostly-eaten corpses of what would otherwise be a lively little sewer town. This is both depressing and frustrating ;_;

why valdis story why

imma cheat the hell out of you now because of this, but why ;_;

That's alcohol for you. Along with the other stuff. Remember those things have ingredient lists, and you've got google :V

Though iirc part of the actual reason behind that is to keep kids or whatev' from guzzling the stuff. Lot of medicine is specifically made to taste bad for exactly that reason, from what I recall. Helps disincentivize overdosing.

... somehow not hard, and yet it's literally the deadliest job in the US. Um. Alright, then.

It's not the most skilled of labor, no, but it is hard work as well as very dangerous and incredibly vital. The wage is low because it's not terribly skilled and most people aren't actually aware of how dangerous it is, nor overtly cognizant of how vital a service it is, which leads the general public to devalue the work despite it really not deserving that.

... man, rubbish collectors don't get paid nearly enough for what they do. Massively in demand, incredibly vital service (that, frankly, probably saves nearly as many lives as doctors do, if not more), and one of the deadliest jobs on the planet, and they basically get dumped on by everyone, including the folks that control the purse strings. It's a bit unfortunate, y'know?
