Eh, they'd be too busy with either a civil war or something like half or better of their population getting up and leaving to gloat, I'd imagine. Last I checked texas, for all particularly loud parts of it babble out their arse about succession, doesn't really have a majority interested in it. Not even a plurality, iirc. Probably a larger minority support than in many states, but that's... not saying much.

... am faintly curious now if the LNs actually mention anything about the gandalfr rune (the familiar brandings in general, really) actually screwing with the mind. So far as I was aware, the only mention of that comes from fanon.

Ehhhh... I don't really look at it that way with Sinon, though.  Perhaps I'm just that one weirdo, but I found her to be a far more compelling character than Kirito, and I don't interpret their interactions as being in any way indicative of her falling for him (well, maybe a little, but more of a low-level crush than the ridiculous "one-episode head-over-heels" thing that happened in early SAO).
Never touch the games, friend quadcovering. It's probably best you don't even read/watch any of the LPs.

... still wondering why this is being brought up in this thread instead of, y'know, a thread closer to the geographic region in question, but I will say the "special measures to try to avoid harming civilians" line amused the hell out of me. I can only imagine they were measures similar to what the US used when they categorized every adult male in an area as a militant :V

Easiest way in the world to avoid harming civilians, really. Just call them all non-civilians, problem solved!

Not just you, neo. Not even remotely. I've had a couple times where being around people with perfumes on made me literally physically sick -- stuck in bed for like two days straight after being in a classroom with someone that had some kind of godawful strong something on them.

And most perfumes, colognes, etc., do indeed just smell goddamn terrible. Occasionally run in to something subtle enough and pleasing enough it's nice to be around, but most of that stuff is like a nasal shit-sledgehammer applied directly to the brain. Junk's almost as bad as cigarette smoke, a lot of the time. Terrible, terrible stuff.

"No continence survives contact with the electorate" is how it seems to go, really.

Signal to noise ratio hasn't really seemed to vary much, to me, since... hell, late nineties? We've got pantsu now, but back then we just straight up had tits free to go with the generally mediocre writing and most derivative character contests. Time's let us filter out a lot of the junk, but the junk's still there, et al.

Most TV/movie media is roughly as stagnant/quality deprived as anime is, possibly even moreso, insofar as I've noticed, though. Sturgeon's not really any more applicable to anime than it is to anything else.

... at least she spends a lot of the supplementary material just trolling everyone.* It's a small recompense, but it's there.

*Seriously, to FD, m'fairly sure Yui still is very much an infomorph, she's just screwing with everyone. Many of her lines in the games, ferex, show every instance of being entirely calculated. Her character makes a notably larger amount of sense when you remember the whole superb mastery of human psychology, complete lack of human morals angle. Entire series past her introduction to it is just the little datafreak xanatosing everything for her amusement.

Have no interest in joining, but I do want to say it's an interesting idea, and it might be neat to see how things play out. DF basically generates deathworlds at their kindest, so seeing what sort of campaign is playing in one peaks the interest.

Swaths of the countryside regularly blanketed in death dealing (if you're lucky -- the unlucky ones survive) rains and fogs, miles upon miles of wasteland that spontaneously reanimate the dead, living and murderous god-things roaming the land, regular demon incursions and entire nations subverted by inhuman and incredibly deadly infiltrators, entire wide-ranging and powerful species of cannibals, multiple other ones with a penchant for stealing children, widespread slavery, all sorts of incredible nastiness and then there's everything that lurks in the depths. DF worlds are places adventurers go to die :D

Place is arguably worse than even normal DnD, which is itself a hellworld par excellent. Which is what makes it attractive :V

... that thing actually seems to be getting better over time. That... that's nice. Loved the bits near the end, heh.

There's been a fair amount of fairly interesting (and a great deal of thoroughly uninteresting) fanfiction based off just that premise, yes. Can't recall any at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I've had the same thing happen to me, too. Occasionally some bit or passing character just kinda' catches your fancy more than... well, the rest of the cast. Seems particularly likely in those cases where there's a very interesting premise/wold construction but less than stellar main plot/characterization.

It's also possibly important to note that the humors theory is incorrect and drilling a hole in your head is not an ideal cure for migraines. Not sure how misguided this textbook is, beyond notably.

You've got a shitty health textbook, that's what.

Don't forget that the kid turned himself in, too, whereas the officers had to be served warrants and brought in :-\

That said, the officers did have bails in the multiple-hundreds of thousands, too -- 350k for the ones on felony charges, 250k for the misdemeanor ones. As the article notes, apparently they didn't want to risk them being in jail, and so decided folks that killed someone and didn't turn themselves in were less of a flight risk than someone that committed what amounts to vandalism and did.

As they say, shit's fucked up.
