So... what game is it?

It's a ditch made of stone.

It's a shame they wouldn't fit in the 4th circle of Dante's description, really. Best fit would probably be the 10th bolgia of the 8th circle, which I guess is sorta' a multiple of four, somewhat. Is something, I guess.

I guess they could be shoved into an invented 12th bolgia?

I'unno null, belief in the soul is more ubiquitous to religious belief than belief in a god is -- there's major religions that are atheistic (buddhism, ferex), but pretty much none of them posit a soulless existence (barring tiny denominations here and there). It's definitely, if not the basis of religion in general, then definitely one of the biggest ones.

Look, just... maybe next time leave them in the other room. Without line of sight to the printer. Maybe wrapped in tinfoil and in a leadlined box, I'unno how possessed warptech printers with a hunger for electronic peripherals work. Better safe than infested with technopathic nurgle pox.

There isn't, unless you can understand japanese. None if it's officially localized, apparently.

I'unno, there's an argument that negative attention is better than none whatsoever -- at least the subject is noted and being spoken of, even if the riot itself causes negative sentiment. Opens the way for discussion and attention where there wasn't before. If these riots hadn't occurred, would gorram anyone be talking about the situation in baltimore at the moment? Would the non-violent protests actually garnered any note worth note? We have protests and pushback pretty regularly, from what I understand, and most of the time basically no one outside of the people protesting (and maybe cops or who have you that come in to abuse people a little for the jollies or whyeverthehell they decide to assault peaceful protesters) notice.

Riots are a helluva' lot harder to ignore. You can argue that they're ineffective for opening communication, but that's a question I'd personally say is not clear cut.

That said, as I've seen noted elsewhere, the violent folks involved in these things are usually a pretty minor, well, minority, of protesters. Most people up in arms aren't looting drugstores. There's people coming in to take advantage of what's happening, but that's far from most of the folks there. And there are people that are just pissed off and lashing out and whatever's closest.

As the aside, folks aren't really saying that rioting and looting is a legitimate expression of rage, just an expected one. Tellin' people that this is sorta' what happens isn't saying it's a rightful thing, just trying to convince people that, y'know, maybe we should try to avoid it reaching this point.

Heh. Honestly, on the personal level, I just don't ever hear atheists speak up. Mostly because they, very rightly -- because the christians around here very literally will kick the shit out of non-believers if they think they can get away with it (and they very much can and have) -- fear their physical health (or job prospects, or etc.) if they do. So I only really get the bugnut crazy religious folks talking about religion outside of very rare occasions. Seen a little edging towards it in some of my philosophy classes, but I don't think I've ever actually met one of those stereotypical hardline atheists in person. At least not a vocal one.

I will say it was kinda' incredible the undercurrent of fear in folks voices when they talked down someone from out of the area that was starting to edge towards talking loudly regarding atheist belief in a public space, though. Thinking back, there's some chills, there.

Some of the nicest, most reasonable folks I've talked with in person were radical theists of one sort or another, though. Again, mostly because the non-theists run the fuck away from this region ASAP, and stay as quiet as possible otherwise.

General Discussion / Re: Steam Workshop - Axing support for paid mods

... if the numbers beth used was actually accurate (8% of purchasers using mods), that might be an argument to make, nenj.

And Ro, I've seen multiple modding communities that have experienced exactly what I was talking about. It happened to WC3 and Civ IV just off the top of my head, the latter within the last year or two. You do, actually, see patches come out for games with multi-year breaks in between, that play merry hell on established mods. It's a damned sincere concern, especially when the company is rolling out major changes to parts of their infrastructure (like providing for paid mods, or changing multiplayer methods, or correcting long-missed security holes, and so on, and so forth).

Also, your existing setup would continue to work fine, without having to rebuy everything.
Until an update breaks it all, anyway. Maybe you'd be able to roll back and sacrifice the support you paid for when you bought the game to avoid future patches to keep your old stuff working?

Welp. SOMEONE in the marketing department is getting fired.
Maybe, maybe not. Pepsi's been running the "Drink this and die" slogan for a while now. Mickey Boozerton may be here for the long haul.

There's apparently more to it, but yeah, the guy that died was either beaten before hand (which would mean the police report on the situation was lying, as it claimed nothing of the sort) or given a "rough ride"* that's apparently not exactly uncommon in baltimore.

And that's good to hear, LS. Probably won't really have much of an effect on the situation on the ground -- there seems to be a lot of built up tension in that city regarding police conduct -- but it's something of a good sign.

*Which is where police handcuff someone, then stick them in the back of a vehicle without a seatbelt or whathaveyou, letting them get bounced around and slammed into, y'know, whatever's back there, on the way to jail. It's apparently happened often enough and violently enough that the baltimore police have paid out a fairly significant amount of cash in reparations regarding them.

The hashtag is definitely accurate, if nothing else. That appears to be their active campaign.
