That... should be pretty obvious? There's a ruddy clear moral distinction between, say, voluntary and involuntary bloodsports. You're trading lives for entertainment either way, but the latter is notably worse.

It stops being an issue of the people involved trading their lives for X, and starts being an issue of the people involved having their lives traded for X. Regardless of what the X is, that's a damn obvious difference, t'me anyway.

... doesn't that mean there's at least two adaptations like that out there? Unless that's the LN form of that manga one?

If so, I'm okay with that.

Incidentally, I'd totally be at least initially interested in "My Little Sister can't be Sun Tzu". Best would be it was played absolutely straight and it was a skeleton in a skirt. Not even an animate one, just some madperson playing dress up with dead bones. You could have some interesting traction for storytelling with that sort of setup.

I guess an onion-gun would be more efficient, but it lacks the satisfying "thunk".
To be fair, potato cannons and whatnot (which is likely what you'd use for an onion gun) quite possibly are legal in your area. I don't think they actually count as guns. Kinda' like siege weaponry falls under different laws. Is places you can't own rifle but can build and operate trebuchet. Mostly because no one actually does it and so there just aren't laws against it :V

Also, from what I recall, the mechanics behind potato guns means there actually is a satisfying "thunk", just when it's fired instead of when it hits. When it hits, too, really -- high velocity potato has some serious oomph behind it. Maybe more of a thump, but they both fall under the purview of delicious impact, methinks.

Don't forget the brown recluses, though! Something something flesh eating something. At least the widows mostly just kill you.

But yeah, black widows aren't a guaranteed kill or anything like that, just a potential one. Which is plenty to freak folks out, heh.

As to that, aky, it's because it's rare that they're deadly. There's some kind of psych term for that, I think -- we notice unusual but statistically unlikely harms more than we do common ones, even though the latter are much greater actual issues. Is why lot of people are much more worried about riding in airplane than car, ferex, iirc.

Also the distinctive coloration. Black widows got mystique, y'know? Recluses are just brown.

I'm fine with the head-span leg-span spiders. Everything else with an exoskeleton in that size range has to die in a fire.

What the hell kind of hook do you even stick those things on, and what kind of aquatic monstrosity do you pull up with them as bait? Godzooky?

If by "better" you mean "a valid justification to burn the entire country to the ground," yes.

And yeah, squirrels can technically catch rabies but it more or less never happens. Not a primary carrier, only really catches it if around stuff that is (which more or less never happens because most of those things eat squirrels), probably dead if attacked by something infected. They're an incredibly negligible risk for rabies.

Irrelevant, since as the critter noted amongst all that multi-page babbling, the collective political will to actually instate/go through with a draft is pretty much zero.

Chances of that changing is directionally proportional to us actually needing an army numbered in the multiple millions, which is to say more or less on par with that noted political will. Probably less.

... also you could really kinda' tell that critter was a 'nam vet, or somewhere in that general time frame. Lot of what I skimmed over definitely sounded like ex-military from several decades back. Also fairly irrelevant, but...

On a similar note, I've now confirmed that diced up potato is incredibly easy (and quite quick) to microwave, and comes out verra' good. Takes like, maybe six minutes for a couple small-ish potatoes to nuke up. Good stuff.

I'll reiterate that, all other things aside, it has a pretty darn high quality soundtrack. Quite nice production values for a computer game. Part of the pretty umi's talkin' 'bout. Not worth a buy for that alone, but...

That's kinda' odd.

They don't seem to have actually laid folks off yet, though -- two months of paid leave for everyone, followed by other stuff. Couple months of free money to find another job is... not as bad as it could be, I guess. Hell, it's possibly better than the workers could have otherwise expected, walmart being walmart :-\

Does look like fairly normal heavy-handed union busting tactics, though. Right up Wally World's alley. Y'd just think they'd be a bit less clumsy with the excuse.

Tribeam will entirely trivialize more or less the entire west, barring maybe the last zone or two (this isn't really saying much, since flame just by it-freaking-self can basically do that). Falls off pretty sharply after that point, though. Still does alright dakka, but way less than the mage can really put out, which is a notable problem as magi have a bit of a damage slump in the late-mid to early-end game (which is mostly irrelevant because mage survivability after the very early game is one of the best in the game).

Mind you, you also have basically no reason not to diversify beyond that. You don't really need more than one point in lightning, and no more in flame or manathrust than it takes for them to beam. Plenty of points to spread around after that.

Today's morning ablutions*: Herd three guineas. Herd one chicken, twice. Catch different chicken by hand. Catch rooster with net. Drag rooster inside net for probably twenty or thirty feet, maybe more.

Old people should maybe not have chicken pens that are not sufficiently enclosed. Thing needs a two-stage door incredibly badly. Will have to recommend again.

*Note: This works because this is florida, and it is indeed both hot and incredibly humid outside right now.

Anyone know how you open up a player shop to sell things? I'd love to get rid of all these average fighters I made.
Get an puppeteer (maybe other professions?) to make one for you. No clue if you can buy 'em on the auction or not. I'd offer, but I don't think m'exo has the cash to buy a recipe for one at the mo.

Also there's the auction. Average fighters sell for, like, nothing, iirc. Personally, I'd say just use 'em. Takes a while to burn through 'em, but they're useful right up into the 40+ level dungeons, so...

It leaves a helluva' lot of wiggle room. Critter could have a thousand arms and legs and half-hundred heads and we'd still be "in its image". Could be florescent neon green, hair that extends miles, etc., etc., etc. Could be basing that image off of something entirely non-physical, as folks in this thread have conjectured. S'bloody vague it is.
