Yeah, I've never actually managed to get the installer/updater to work, personally. Best bet is probably to run it in admin mode, if you're not already, but it may just not ruddy work on your computer.

Steam version or the .zip is the way to go, though. Both painless (well, barring the minor wallet impact with the former).

Today's six o'clock (well, ten 'till) wake up call was the dream equivalent of a time lapse video of someone taking a nap in the woods, and having their face and upper shoulder area covered by an ever expanding ball of ~fist sized beetles of varying colors. Dream ended somewhere around the point there was something like three dozen beetles just kinda' chilling on some dude's head. Also distinctly remember the words, "Sleep through several pounds of woodlice" and the most amazing scorpion fight pun.

Namely, the screen (?) displayed the words "Scorpion Fight" and a dude walked in carrying a downsized siege weapon (maybe about the size of one of those smaller old black and white TVs? Lil'bigger than a human head.). The perhaps oddest thing is it was actually a fairly decent example of a scorpion, despite me not having seen an example of one of those things in probably half a decade.

... I don't know about you folks, but cast-iron babykicker looks a lot more interesting and impressive to me than uniformed stag-party does. Could do without the dong, but it's pretty neat looking.

The merkeli-li is real, obj. You could even say it's an objective existence.

I'd vote for odin, at least. Dude did pretty good on that frost giant thing. Keeps to his platform policies, and at least he'd be forthright about the xenocide.

*shrugs* I wouldn't call it silliness. Just a difference of aesthetic.

Beautiful, sure, but it's not the beauty folks are caring about.

E: Incidentally, if you start saying stuff about art being a bang, I'm going to throw rotten fruit at you. Just an fyi.

Set 'imself on fire and molest dozens of cats while rolling in a pile of money, right? Not what I'd do (Firetruck bobsledding ftw), but it's a solid plan.

... or I guess getting an animal for the fire department or something boring like that.

Well, matter to you, yes. Matter to more or less anything else that's still going to be sticking around after a bit, no. Kinda' Arx's point, I think. Lot of people want to think things matter in some sort of genuine, substantiative sense -- something with a non-transient metaphysical weight. It's one of the huge draws to religion -- that message that what you do is going to make a difference in the long run, either for yourself (personal salvation) or others (helping them to the path of salvation).

All of the major ones have that, some kind of way that action can have consequence or result indefinitely, either through heaven/hell, escape from the cycle of reincarnation, or whathaveyou. That we're more than just dust waiting to spread back out, that that sun isn't going to dim and go out, that the earth that rain falls on won't become barren, empty, or just outright gone, that there's going to be something after that walk in the sun, and that said walk is going to have some sort of influence on it.

And we're not, it is, there isn't, and it won't. Lot of people really don't like that, and find "it matters to me" insufficient for them. They've got (at least) two scales of what matters, and one of them mostly can't be fulfilled without the divine.

There also seems to be a fair amount of support for jeb, for some ungodly reason. Apparently a fair chunk of people out there do want to continue the bush-clinton dynasty.

A guy just walked up to me and asked for directions to the nearest gas station. I told him, and he walked away in the exact opposite direction.
... did he happen to be carrying an umbrella?

It's running just fine on 1.3.1, it just has that XP bug.

Oh. Well, yeah, except for the character sheet bugging out. I just, uh. Haven't been opening it. I mean, obviously, because it errors and doesn't open, but I mean just kinda' ignoring it's a problem, since it kinda' isn't. When you're like fifty levels above the zone's upper cap, checking resists or whatever is just a titch unnecessary.

E: Mind you, I play on normal most of the time so I don't really have to pay particular attention to the charsheet anyway, so not having it doesn't really make a difference for me. It's a bug completely trivial to play around, for me, heh.

E2: Eesh, when you run into an unlimited zone, though. Those drops off level 120+ randuniques.
Spoiler: Stuff like this (click to show/hide)

E3: Level 88. Just now got the exterminator cheevo :V

E4: Level 90. Weirdling Beast is finally dead. I... guess I'll go step on the master now...?

E5: Well that's the first time I've seen that happen. Derth's population just killed off all the elementals before I even made it inside the circle. Seemed to happen just because a boss and about five unique villagers generated. None of 'em over level 20, but they managed all the same. Also yes, I just walked into the derth thing at level 90 :V

E6: Dreadfell 3, character is now level 126. Resist all is currently capped at 92%, with 6% more room to grow and still increasing thick skin and 4th tier volcano turtle talent. Thank you, based true grit. Combined with the eternal guard I, uh. I'm not taking much damage.

Hrm. I think my priest is sitting on like 150k with nothing much to spend it on except animate spirits, protein oils, and piles of those 6k pots that seem to be about the best thing to chew up for profession junk. Could throw it the guild's way next time I'm online, I guess...

Mooostly a steamroller, since the character hasn't even opened up the home yet, nevermind reached dreadfell or the east or whatev', so it kiiiinda' runs in to the upper level bounds of... everything, really.

The uniques mod does occasionally generate a critter with level parity, though. That mostly just means it takes a while to kill :-\

Could probably make it rougher if I changed up the settings on said mod to beef up what it generates, but eh.

E: The really fun thing is the character is also running the chaotic races addon. If I didn't have another addon that let you unlearn skills, my m menu would be an unworkably laggy mess. 79 levels of random talents really clutter the thing up.

... character would also have like four or five points in leaves tide, which is completely useless for something that's not using mindstars at all. Game keeps wanting to give me points in that for some reason or another.

What's that thing even about, anyway? I've only ever heard references to it.
It's an adventure manga that starts off as a riff on journey to the west and kinda' rolls from there. Dragon Ball itself is actually pretty darn good for its time period -- one of the archetypal examples of a shonen manga, iirc -- for all it's a bit odd in places. I'd fairly honestly recommend it, though as serg notes it does have its perverse bits. Fairly tame ones -- certainly not particularly notable for a manga that started in the mid 80s, heh -- but they're there. Still, it's a fairly decent romp of a story.
