Yeah, on the net, people have a positive view of dinosaurs. Much of that has to do with not actually being around the dinosaurs, but people overall like 'em. Nice colored flying prettynoise things that don't really get in your way, is the general sort of feeling I get from most folks talkin' about 'em. Also some they never see and that we more or less torture on a basically species-wide scale taste delicious, netting the general lot a bonus appreciation nudge.

Me, I like dinosaurs in general, but have an unwavering hatred of certain species. Any of them bigger than me, because they want to kill and/or eat me. Chickens, because they want to kill and/or eat everything. Stuff like that. Most people I've met that have more than a cursory appreciation of dinosaurs have similar reactions -- on the net, dinosaurs are alright, but certain ones...

... incidentally, about half that for the more informed individuals seems to be due to the fact that they're dinosaurs, and that's awesome. Which is a position I can't fault, really.

... yeah, people are going to look at you like you've got a mild case of insanity if you're wearing or carrying a jacket 'round these parts, most of the year. It's too hot, and too humid. 28°C is, like. Below tomorrow's high. And it's kinda' unseasonably cold ;_;

Why would you wear a shirt with a breast pocket?
They're actually rather useful in a lot of situations. If you're working with something that makes it awkward to get to pants pockets (something that happens quite often in a lot of construction or mechanical work, just as examples), breast ones are golden. You can rarely go wrong with more pockets in more places.

Also pens are good for writing on things. That's why you need them in the 21st. We still have to write on things in a lot of situations, and it's good to be able to do so on the fly.

Also good for poking holes in things if you don't have a knife or keys on hand. Pens are useful lil'things.

As for the hat thing... not everyone is suited for a hat. And a lot people wear hats that really aren't suited to them. Plus there's logistic issues involved -- when to have it on or off, dealing with the mess they make of your hair, etc. They're as much of an issue as any other image-based potential faux-pas is.

Y'know, I've never actually seen a pocket protector. Even among folks that use lots of pens and pencils and whatnot. Folks just stick the doodad they're using in their pocket. Sometimes the shirt pocket, sometimes not. Whatever's handy.

Like. Multiple decades now, good chunks of them spent on college campuses or around stereotypical geek types, and I've never actually seen one of those things in the wild. Bloody hell, I don't think I've even seen one on TV.

Honestly, I don't even know where you'd buy them. I've never noticed one in a store. Could get them online, I suppose.

No, m's saying they predicted problems, but more or less didn't predict them to be critical ones. Hence a crisis wasn't predicted, people didn't take the problems seriously enough, and hey presto, actual crisis instead of just notable issues.

Heh. Well, technically ToME did start off in a sci-fi setting, back when it was pernangband :V

... though yeah, there hasn't really been much development of sci-fi stuff on the T-Engine, to date. Maybe in the future...

Huh. Can't you cancel out of the downswing with most of the priest's abilities? I certainly never just end the animation when I'm not against chaff, but especially with lurking dragon and a little charge that last swing adds a nice chunk of damage -- and if you're quick enough, you can immediately cancel into the grab or knockup (or whatever, really) once the hit connects and keep the pain train rolling.

E: Mind you, at least with the exorcist, I'm not sure I'd be using basic attacks at all in PVP, at least unless I caught the opponent in the crucifix wind or somethin'. They're pretty slow.

Got no intention whatsoever of playing PvP, though :V

Ah. Yeah, the dragonriders of pern stuff isn't exactly without its merits (though there reached a point the writing style and pacing and whatnot started getting under my skin, and I mostly stopped reading it). S'just got that bit of odd lasciviousness going on. Kinda' like the Xanth series with its sex scene(s), y'know?

It's actually sort of a thing in general with her. Got my hands on some of the freedom books not too long ago, and one of them just has a sort of, "Ohey, main character just got boozed up and raped, let's spend two sentences talking about it and cheerfully move on" pop out of pretty much nowhere. I guess I'd call it almost a theme of a sort of oddly dissonant non-con (among other stuff) thread in her work. Generally not a major part of any particular bits of her work, but it's very much there.

In sudden retrospect, it's almost like certain sorts of shoujo manga... which might make sense, since she was noted as trying to target a similar demographic.

What about M&M X? It's not a classic "tactical" combat, but it's party-based and you control every character...
M&M in general is party of a pretty different bloodline and style of game, compared to stuff like PoE. Looking at X, it doesn't really mess with the formula. The first-person dungeon crawler thing, party or not, is a distinct sort of beast. You've also been seeing a decent trickle of that sort of thing on handhelds, anyway.

You'd be looking specifically for the pern stuff if you were after the major thing FD n'me were warbling about, for what it's worth.

The tl;dr version is riders having a psychic bond with dragons and the dragons going into heat, with some, y'know, feedback. Lady built more or less uncontrollable fucking right into the setting. Never got as bad as, say, Piers Anthony's stuff, but she's long been someone I thought of within a few metaphorical steps of th'blighter on that particular sort of subject.

And when you're being considered roughly in the same breath as the dude that wrote Pornucopia (and a sequel), it says something. Also yes, that is an actual title of an actual book, published by an actual, notably prolific and well known, author. Who writes a series of what are usually popularly considered young adult/children's fantasy novels (Protip, as someone that's read probably better than half of them: They are not.).

Don't think so -- thing's got some basic file protection wuzzit, I think. Checks to make sure stuff isn't tampered with (or at least if it's still the right stuff), and that would probably count.

On the other hand, the game really isn't hard on the system at all, so it's pretty trivial to just mute the in-game music and kick on your own.

... is it wrong to be surprised by the quality of an MMO's music? Dungeon Fighter Online's stuff is easily accessible -- it's just a bunch of .ogg files in the game's folder -- and it's honestly, like. A lot of it is genuinely good.

And something about the concept of quality anything coming out of an MMO is just faintly disturbing to me for some reason.

But this thing has, like. Music that ranges from fairly decent to pretty damn good, and is generally just kinda' quality. Fairly wide range of genres expressed, too. S'almost unsettling. But impressive? I'unno.
