The closest coast to us is 3 and a half hours away. It's also on the Gulf of Mexico, which is supposed to generally not be great for swimming/surfing/other seaside activities.
Not good for surfing in most places on it, at least when the weather's not trying to kill you. Rest of it's pretty alright, or at least was back before oil spills and whatnot.

Used to be fine for swimming and lounging about in the water, at least when the jellyfish weren't around, and the fishing was at one point pretty good. No clue what it's like nowadays, though, this was years back -- despite living either ~an hour or literally walking distance from the gulf for the last few years, it's probably been like half a decade or better since I've been to the beach. Don't like sunburns, or screwoff-huge jellyfish, or riptides, or sand, or... well, most of the everything a beach entails, anymore.

Still. There is a reason a lot of the gulf area is known as a fairly high level vacation spot, and it's not just because of the copious amounts of alcohol and other drugs.

Though @ Tack, nah, at the worst it's just being more blatant about it nowadays, coupled with maybe a bit higher overall output (computers are really good for writing, ahaha!). We've been doing fanfiction since before we had writing, and spent a lot of time in the interim period functionally just filing names off other people's works. Honestly, I see more innovation and experimentation -- greater imagination -- coming out of fanfiction than I tend to out of published stuff. Generally less polish, but not having to adhere to editing standards and publisher overlook and whatnot gives a lot of wing to the metaphorical authorial bird. Most people use those wings to fly into windows and oncoming traffic, but eh.

Frumple is glad you weren't dragged under by the undertow to drown, molested by death jellyfish, or eaten by sharks. May your next beach incursion be similarly survivable!

May you also never inadvertently encounter a jellyfish bigger than you. That sucks. Really, really sucks. Something you need to approach with foreknowledge, lest the body be not ready.

It is hilarious but is full of potential turnoff amounts of fanservice.
There's a full LP of it over on the lp archive, for what it's worth.

For me, it depends on the writing in question. Something like Game of Thrones? Yeah, okay, it doesn't cotton well to fanfiction and most would just be straight-up porn.
S'wha'? There's like a slew of pretty ruddy excellent GoT/ASOIF fanfics. It's a really nice setting to meddle with, from what I've seen in passing. Haven't actually read more than two or three of 'em, personally, but I've seen a fair number get pretty good response from folks that are fairly critical of what they read. Seems to be one of a handful of fandoms that are on a notable upswing.

garbage bins are surprisingly expensive.

like, 70 euros, really?
... for the higher end ones, sometimes even more. You can see 300+ USD for the really over-engineered specialist ones, meant for specific industries and whatnot. 50+ for tougher/larger ones isn't really terribly surprising. It's not really all that much of a surprise... they're meant to hold some nasty stuff, generally outside under often fairly adverse conditions, and sometimes have to deal with fairly notable weight strain and whatnot. Y'gotta' put a wee titch of resources into something able to manage that for any particular length of time (and a garbage bin can usually last many years if nothing unusual happens to it).

Low end's like 15-20 USD for a really simple one, though. Less euros.

S'always a hell of a thing when you give a cage full of dinosaurs an assortment of food and the beeline straight for the dino eggs in the pile. Ovarian cannibal orgy? Something like that. Freaking dinosaurs. Hateful little omnivorous bastards.

... I'll chime in on the "initially thought Avatar was anime" side of things, though. And for what it's worth, I've been watching an average of a series or two of anime a year since something like '96. So, uh.

Series based upon the travails of a growing town that is involved in the frontier pioneering efforts of a magitek civilization in a hostile fantasy universe. Spelljammer-equivalents optional but very encouraged, but the equivalent to high-level heroes should be checked in at the door. Let there be RUS!

Animated series, hopefully by those guys that did the clone wars stuff, following the course of a multi-system WAAAAAGH.

Checking on gog, I'm actually tempted to buy it half just because of how small it is. That filesize is really impressive to me, in this day and age. Also have liked what I've seen from LPs and such, but dat mere half-gig...

Still a lil' more than my funds can handle, though. Probably more than the computer can handle, too, but eh.

Dunno if that's true in most of the American south, or only because we're close to West Virginia.  Also it's probably an antiquated term, mostly.
Maybe slightly antiquated, but I've heard it in my lifetime and not terribly long ago, here in north florida. Don't think I've heard my or the next generation(s) use it, but the one before me, definitely.

Never really got the specifically second cousin thing, though. From what I remember it was mostly anything past first and not enough steps away you're not entirely sure if they're related or not.

Which does make it about as reputable as something put out by your average major news network, to be fair.

Couldn't cite you the precise passages at the moment, but there's a good handful in both the new and old testament that spends a bit of time demonizing various jewish groups. As has been noted by historians, and what will be readily ignored by anti-semites using the bible to support their hate, is that that sort of thing was a fairly standard jewish/early chrisitian literary technique. Have current (relative the time written, anyway) jews be terrible beast-things or whatev', so that the new message (and probably god) can come in and smite everything and then yay everything is good again with the righteous living rightfully by the right message (which is the one the work's author is pushing, of course) and the unrighteous probably having their pregnant women rent to pieces or somethin'. Pretty clumsy story design, but hey, history.

... hold up. TT wasn't considered sufficiently anime? Doesn't that have a japanese dubbed OP and everything?

Oh gods. I did it again.

... if any of you enchanters or alchemists could use like a 30 stack of ethereal spirit essence, give me a yell. It's looking like it's going to be a theme where I hoover up cheap spirit essences on the auction thinking they're animate spirit :-\

Also, uh. Anyone happen to know where the cheapest equipment shop in the game is? Doesn't have to be good kit or anything, just trying to find the most cost efficient source for stuff to throw into the soul grinder dingus. Right now the lowest I've noticed is those 6k pots, which is... lower would be nice. Really nice.

Freaking grinder keeps giving me 2-3x the lucid it does ethereal. I can't even use lucid animate spirits until like puppeteer 6 or something. And I'll all out of ethereal, always. Whereas my lucid pile is going to hit 150 within another dungeon or two ;_;

Have almost hit tier 4 puppets, though. I'm not sure when I'd actually need them, since even the tier two one is still basically wiping level 40+ dungeons and the freaking basic ones still contributing pretty heftily, but...

E: This. Freaking. Questline.

I have now been tasked to clear out the goddamn Forbidden Shrine for like the eighth or ninth time in a goddamn row. I think it's also the third bloody time it's called to kill the boss.

It's, like. Okay. It's time for this to end. This dungeon has far outstayed its welcome. Please.

E2: Oh thank zeus. That was actually the last one.

Also found out after getting tired of that shit that volcaria like three-shots that boss on hard. Alright then.

E3: Incidentally, totally willing to trade this tier 4 puppet (the Heaven Net one) to folks for ordinary protein oil, at least until I run out of lucid spirits (which would take, uh. something like 57 or so of them, right now. Which is more than anyone needs.). Ideally at something like a 2:1 oil/puppet ratio so I can keep myself in puppets, but whatever really so long as it at least breaks even.

E4: ... zeppelins? What?
