I went to a pretty conservative school (e.g. they fired a teacher for being gay) which you would think would lower the overall perviness of its roll.
Ha. Haha. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA

yeah no

gods fuck, no

Not necessarily increase, but decrease? No. Just.

No. Having lived in heavily conservative areas most of my life.

No.

Seem to be considerably more likely to handle things off the record, though, yes.

I have it at 110% normally and 100% has the same effect for me.
130% here. I can read it at 100% without particular ill effect, but... it's annoying, and I don't have to. Non-forum reading is generally at around 180%. Why read small print when you can read big?

Silly itnet, that's not a kids thing, it's an everyone thing, more or less. Gambling behavior defiiiinitely doesn't trend off with age, it just changes forms (at best).

So, uh. When you say new, like. What year are we talking? Because just post-tolkien leaves a lot of space to work with. Pre-tolkien was pretty out there at times, too. And for all T was the baseline for a long time, it definitely feels like we're starting to get some standard output more along other lines -- urban fantasy, steampunk, etc., sorta' feel like they've grown in popularity over the last... while.

Throwing some stuff out there, relative to the bog-standard sword&sorcery though...

Concept: Urban Fantasy.
Description: ... urban fantasy. Fantasy with bits of sci-fi or modern-day stuff thrown in, or the other way around.
Some notables: Dresden Files (books). Shadowrun (books, pen&paper games, video games). Mage: The Awakening (P&P games, apparently books).

Concept: Postapocalyptic Fantasy.
Description: Again what it says on the tin. Fantasy worlds set after the proverbial "end".
Some notables: Dark Sun (books, P&P, video games).

Concept: Dragon as major characters.
Description: As per tin!
Some notables: There were several Krynn novels along those lines. The Basil Broketail stuff also went some interesting directions with that. There's more that I'm forgetting, obviously.

... actually, limiting it to at-most three per day sounds kinda' interesting. At least partially because my memory's failing me. Actually remember where all the off-beaten-path fantasy concepts I've ran into came from? Ach, me head. There's so bloody much, especially if you trawl used book stores and whatnot. E: And that's not getting into anime and related works. Anime has done some shit with fantasy settings.

Doesn't even specify rebellion :P

The wording in it actually looks like it's suggesting the dragon's faction was attacked, of all things. Then purged, when they attempted to defend themselves.

... also isn't revelations, like. Supposedly prophecy or something? Something that has yet to happen?

E: If so, that would have to suck for a lot of folks that have paid attention to that bit. They die, kick on up top, and have a seven headed chromatic dragon just kinda' chillin' by the pearly gates. "Sup." in seven headed draconic stereo. "You expected Michael, but it was me, DIO Shaitan!"

... you wouldn't happen to have verse for that rebellion bit, would you?

It's unusual. I think it might come across as a bit too polite or deferent.
The latter bit, I'd say it depends on how deeply you're bowing, since... well, in most western cultures, people just don't. Bow. Ever. About the best you're going to get is mocking, since nowadays that sort of behavior is generally seen as effectively overacting. Since it doesn't happen outside of theater or maybe incredibly formal situations 99% of the population will never encounter.

A nod/head incline/bow!light is less out there. Do that myself, sometimes, when I don't feel like talking but some sort of acknowledgement is required. But waist movement is basically right out.

That said, kal should roll with it, see if they can't make it work, catch on a little. I'd bloody well love for it to replace handshakes and crap.

All that goes out the window for other cultures, though. Can't say anything about those.

---

... in other news, people were talking outside a few moments ago. It is 1 AM, in a rural town where there is no night scene and even the drunks are usually home before now. Who are you, people, why the hell are you talking within hearing distance of the window, and am I going to need to go get a gun?

Actually, don't answer those questions. Just. Just shut up and go away. Which you seem to have, so whatever.

Yeeaaah, them, of any gaming-related company, worrying about that is almost a joke. I mean, even if it does, it's still going to go through steam so why should they care? Money either way, and easy PR going loose reigns.

Still. The worry is that, joke or not, someone in corporate doesn't grok the punch line.

15459
... I'm sure some people would, yes. A ridiculously small fraction compared to those who wouldn't. And to a significant extent, the vitality of a custom content creation system relies on the number of people getting exposed to it. Cripple the playerbase by putting it behind a paywall in an otherwise F2P game, and you're going to do a hellish blow to the scene's output and quality.

I'd be really happy with some kind of voluntary donation system built in (possibly even incentivized! Ads in the lobby for non-payers or something? I'd be okay with that.), but a paywall is going to be a shot to the gut for the nascent user content community, even with all the people and ideas it's inheriting from the Warcraft and Starcraft ones.

I somewhat doubt that. Remembering that D&D is generic "swords and sorcery" fantasy, not Real World Middle Ages, so "those time periods" is a little ambiguous.
It actually did occur from time to time in human history -- particularly influential whores, mistresses, etc., etc., etc. Some achieved nobility, generally through marriage, and it's not a particularly era-locked thing, having occurred off and on pretty much all throughout history. It's not really a terribly out there claim -- there's a reason the influential fleshworker is as common a literary trope as it is.

For D&D shenanigans, you'd expect it to not only be possible, but likely. I mean, hell, you have Ishtar. Probably others, too. You're dealing with a world that not only has prostitutes, you're dealing with a world that has prostitutes that could jam a morning star down your throat and go on to immolate the surrounding countryside with high level divine magic. There's definitely going to be some in high positions, if only because they happened to have kicked everyone's ass that said no.

Oi. The women get their say, too. If the lady adventuress wants to take home the entire brothel, that's her prerogative.

Well, her and whoever has the cure disease spells, assuming she doesn't.

E: Though, in retrospect, your average adventurer could probably just tank whatever penalties they rack up from venereal diseases. Still, "Defeated the Dark Lord Aidymalh'c after contracting seven different kinds of clap" doesn't sound all that good for the bard songs.

E2: On the other hand, "Her warts slew five orcs on the way to the fortress of doom." actually sounds kinda' catchy. You might be able to work with that. I'm not entirely sure you'd want to, but you could.

People, sometimes... "Teach me how you cook that, <Frumple>?"

"O... okay. Step one: Read and follow the directions on the container.

There is no step two."

Less acerbic, but... still. Still. Reading comprehension, people. These are not complicated instructions. Somehow, you still manage to screw them up ;_;

You really do have a lot of fast food places in the States, huh.
... define a lot? I'd probably agree, though.

Actually, idly thinking on it, I can't help but wonder if it's an artifact of the (lack of) transportation infrastructure. Somewhere that's more hub-based (bus stops, rail/subway, etc.) would naturally have less minimally-profitable areas for fast food (restaurants in general, really) to pop up. Not enough folks going through (wanting the fast bit) areas outside of the hub zone style areas to really maintain business. Place like the states, which is both less concentrated and more drive-y, would have a better foundation for supporting more fast food businesses, if perhaps with lower profit margins per individual shop (assuming cultural impetus towards eating out is equal, at least, which it almost certainly isn't). Something along those lines, anyway.

I feel like this has come up before, but have you tried Popeye's? It's basically completely replaced KFC as my go-to source for fried chicken and everything related. Especially the biscuits. Oh sweet merciful Emperor, the biscuits. They're so good.
I've not been asked about popeye's specifically before, to the best of my knowledge (though fast food joints have come up a time or few, previous), but... well. I have been to a couple, but there's apparently regional differences because the ones around here are quite thoroughly mediocre. Like, worse than KFC level stuff. Only marginally worse, but it is what it is. Was a fair ways back, so maybe it's changed since I last visited one, but...

Honestly, I'm not really aware of any really good chicken places in this area. There's a lot of them, but they're all kinda' iffy, insofar as I recall. Generally edible, but not something to make specific note of. You want good chicken without doing the cooking, you walk around the neighborhood(s) until you find a little old lady willing to cook it and unwilling to shoot you. Same for biscuits, really.

That's disseminating heard opinion to a degree, though. I've been to a fair number (perhaps something of an understatement) of places that serve fried chicken over the years, but my tastes in chicken are notably against the apparent norm -- I like my chicken considerably drier than most people seem to. Juicy chicken is generally a turnoff for me, so most fried chicken -- most chicken I don't personally cook, really -- is a bit of a letdown.

Still, chicken wise, popeye's and KFC is about on par, here. Taste about the same, even if the taste doesn't entirely suit me. Don't recall the biscuits for the former, though... it has been quite a while since I last went to one. Still, I may give popeye's a shot if at some unlikely point in the future I feel like eating chicken in a fast food place.*

*Note: Chance of this actually happening is basically zero -- I haven't personally chosen to eat at a restaurant/fast food joint in... something like four or five years, I think. Maybe more. Rode along with others during the interim, but of own choice... no. Rather cook. Prefer to by significant orders of magnitude. Better food, cheaper food, usually quicker food (counting the ride), much quieter, etc., etc., etc. I just don't like eating out anymore :P

KFC was actually pretty good... somewhere back in the 90s, at least in my area. I want to say something along the lines of either the late 90s or early 00s, though, something changed in the general recipes and now it's... less than good. Hello, I'm sick now, less than good. Too much something or other, especially in the potato bitsies.

The chicken skin's still pretty good, though, and I guess the mac and cheese is tolerable and the biscuits not too bad. Everything else is kinda' icky.

Honestly, fast food in general is meh to me these days, with the rare exception (5 Guys fries, ferex. Not so much the rest of it, but the fries, yes. Rarely, since they're still bloody expensive compared to just buying frozen or straight up potatoes and making own fries, but still.). Restaurants, too. Cooking is magic, tastes better, costs less, more fun to boot. Eating out is for when terminally lazy or for talking to people you don't want in your home and expect awkward silences to be filled with food.
