Bloody hell I'm a complete tab casual aren't I.
Aye, space, aye.

And huh, Darv. I think I'd need a better computer before getting that many in FF -- last time I was using it for regular browsing it would start crashing at like the 150-200 range. Memory issues, iirc. Maybe that's been corrected in more recent versions, I'unno. Or some older one or something.

... man, are we having the tabs discussion again? I've only got about 275 (give or take a few) open at the moment, so I feel I can't contribute appropriately. Cleaned up a little while ago.

Incidentally darv, which browser is that? Something that would count my tabs for me sounds nice...

Looking at it from the outside, it seems to be the obvious answer of "It depends", with a subtext of (especially on where you are). Some places you just have a majority of christians think that atheists or non-christians are basically the devil, so the view on that is going to be something along the lines of said parent (regardless of gender and actual moral characterwe're talking people to whom the thought of a moral atheist is an Outside Context Problem because it's literally impossible, to them, to be moral without belief in the divine) being an immoral monster. Other places have a culture that is less bugfuck insane (I think this is particularly true in, say, Europe, where christians in general trend towards being more chill), so it wouldn't even register as an issue. And then there's everything in between. Not really a single answer to the question, or particular generalities -- the outlook is dependent on culture, both local and more general.

Mind you, you'd have the same sort of situation if they were just of a different religion. Depending on how crab-humpingly nuts the area is, sometimes if they're just of a different denomination (See some of the earlier responses to mormonism, or how protestant and catholics have and still do, in places considered each other). It really just depends on the viewer's particular brand of insanity.

... of course, it's really easy to just say that. About as helpful as pissing in someone's face about half the time, but hey.

Something constructive instead of berating is probably beyond the scope of the thread, though, and possibly beyond IT's interest. I'd say make a thread in LA or something for advice, if it's desired, but I honestly don't visit there enough to know if that's actually a good idea. Likely time to let it die, instead of dragging things out yet further.

I don't have sympathy for people who say stuff about killing themselves. I just don't. Maybe if you're living in an ISIS prison camp, that statement has some redeeming value. Having watched average people literally throw their lives away in despair though, it infuriates me.
... then you should probably keep quiet on the subject if you're dealing with someone expressing such thoughts. That kind of attitude is a good way to make bad situations worse.

... yeah, that may be accurate for the UK. It's a bit better insofar as those customer protection things go, iirc. Pretty sure it's not a legal requirement here in the states, though. Many businesses do offer the lower price if something happened and the wrong one was left up, because it's good PR, but I'm fairly sure they're not required to or anything like that. And several of the larger chains kinda' don't, because they can cheerfully bugger the occasional customer and keep business just fine.

It... probably wasn't advertised as $5. Just misplaced. The folks at the counter often don't know the state of the shelves, y'know? You can stop 'em and take it back, get the actual five buck one, but getting a discount because someone put something in the wrong place is... not going to happen.

Advertising has to be, y'know, advertising. It doesn't cover mislabeling or misplacement. Stores will often offer a discount or something if it's legitimately their fault, but not always, and they're far from obligated to, especially legally.

For one book they want to confiscate, an officers clearly comments "I hope this book is on the ban list, because it looks like an interesting read".
... ban list? What?

Generally speaking, men don't willingly go through pregnancy because they lack the requisite organs.
Medical science can fix that. I want to say they've already managed once, a few years back, but if not they're close enough to being able to it's not really a substantiative roadblock for much longer. Fiscal roadblock, sure, but not functional.

...

I don't think anyone wants to give birth, though. Have kids, yes. Practice the bits before, obviously. Go through the hormonal trainwreck and the carrying bits... maybe. But birth itself? Sweet buggery hell no. It is intensely painful. Basically no one wants that shit. Certainly no one sane.

Also yes, robotnik has always been one of the more compelling sonic characters. Honestly, sonic himself is kinda' meh. Tails is a bit better, but it's the general other-people (Rotor, Bunny, Robotnik, Uncle Chuck, etc., etc., etc.) that really made the world.

No, it was clearly a remake of Fern Gully
I should strike you down for that grievous insult to Fern Gully. Including a film with Tim Curry in it in the same sentence as Avatar is just blasphemous, except to illustrate how brutally outmatched the latter is as a form of media.

E: That said, if they made Ewya basically!Hexxes for the next movies I would probably watch the shit out of those things. Chances of that happening: 0.

There are quite a few more of those here by the way if you are interested.
There's a significantly more thorough list here. Fire is indeed common, but it's not alone -- you've also got darkness, separation, silence, and just plain destruction. Many of the references to fire (that aren't just repeating themselves or someone else, anyway) definitely imply that it's not the only punishment, actually, if the translation preserved the meaning adequately. And, as always, description beyond "fiery" is generally decidedly lacking...

Was actually because there was macguffin under the tree. Well, the big tree -- not so much the smaller glowy one, iirc. And yeah, I was rolling with your wording more than accurately portraying the situation, heh.

But still. Point about doing it from above stands pretty much regardless. Even has the additional benefit of potentially making it look like a meteor hit! Ruddy incompetents *grumbles*

Yeah, instead they just tried and failed to genocide the planet from within weapons range of alien pterodactyls. It's not really a matter of savagery, it's a matter of competence. You've got freaking lift capability and you don't give a damn about the locals! Drop a freaking rock on it!

More restrictive than I'm used to, but it's mostly just a matter of the bloody thing being too gorram big. It's like... something like a foot or two wider on either side than what I'm used to driving, and large enough there is not much wiggle room on these roads. The difference between a second and two or three seconds of inattention or whathaveyou putting you in a ditch or oncoming traffic is freaking huge. Especially to my nerves.

It's, like. Driving is fairly stressful as it is, but when minute arm shifts set you to braille driving shit is too much. Don't have to deal with that shit when the vehicle is not a penile compensator.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing how that's useful. Because you're going to tell a bunch of children, "Go and learn things," and a whole load of them aren't going to without specifically being taught.
... so you trick them. It's actually pretty easy to pull off, most of the time. Most people actually like to learn if things are framed correctly and the proverbial well hasn't been thoroughly poisoned. The ones that don't, yeah, maybe they're given a bit more structure. I'd pretty strongly argue they'd be a minority in a properly set up and primed scenario, though.

And if you start it out young, and manage the inclination towards exploration well, the behavior maintains itself pretty easily. We trend toward inquisitiveness pretty hard if given the opportunity and not taught to avoid it, last I paid attention to the state of things.
