Kicks your body into starvation mode and causes you to start building up fat deposits or somethin' along those lines, iirc. You can pretty easily lose a number of pounds by eating more and smaller meals over the course of a day, if you've been eating one meal a day for a bit.
... there's not really a healthy way to effect weight loss via dietary change, unfortunately. Pretty much literally your only option is increased activity. Everything else either won't manage it, won't maintain it, or do terrible things to you in the process. Or all of the above.
