If it's shipgirls it's either that or arpeggio of blue steel, iirc. The latter... makes more sense, I think, if you're looking for sense. Haven't really looked into either all that much, though.

But yeah, kantai collection's the one based off the game.

At this point, it would probably be the better idea to wait for a practitioner to join in and answer, or at least someone that actually has some vague idea of what they're talking about and isn't just making WAGs in regards to the hindu perspective.

My own WAG would probably be that intelligence actually has a lot to do with it. You have to be able to understand the illusion to step beyond it and whatnot, or at least be aware of your own lack of awareness. And beyond that, most of the greater expressions of the brahman (i.e. the gods) are largely human in shape. It's reasonable enough to assume that those things which are closest to the greater manifestations known are higher truths. Doesn't preclude the possibility of higher entities above the known gods that are animal-shaped and whatnot, nor does it preclude the possibility that our own perception of the truth has colored our perception of the higher entities, but the brahman doesn't really preclude much of anything, technically, so far as I know.

Really, when it comes right down to it, humans are the only species I'm aware of that can actually dance. There's plenty of mating and territorial displays out there, but to dance just to dance... that's pretty much ours and ours alone. If anything puts us closer to the hindu conceptualization of the gods, it's probably that.

And, of course, the avatar that actually came into rotation for that one was

Which really fits the tone better than the FE ones. In so many different and terrible ways.

Another question: how many of you read in the toilet?
Yo'. Actually got a kindle for solstice day, so... though there is something like a small library in one of this house's bathrooms at this point, too.

Big thing is to not handle the reading material until after you've washed your hands, on your way out. Assuming said material isn't staying in the room, anyway.

... do remember that the greatest concentration of macro-scale organisms are still insects by a substantial degree, which outweigh humans, nevermind out number -- and that's not getting into the real organic rulers of earth that are microorganisms, which outweigh the insects, to say nothing of humans. And insofar as I'm aware, we've had several periods over geographic history of greater amounts of biomass, as well. If everything was ensouled at some point, and those souls remained distinct despite not having something to ensoul in (though the latter, particularly, is questionable.), then presumably there's a lot of free floating souls out there waiting for something to get stuck in.

Though from what a little cursory reminding shows, there's not really a soul, exactly, in hinduism. "Souls" are more or less just particular expressions of Brahman (like, y'know, everything else) and as such are eternal and have always been. No creation point. New souls, to the extent that's actually a thing, are just new expressions of the one truth and whatnot. Individuality as a substantial concept, for souls or otherwise, in hindu metaphysics is a fuzzy thing, honestly, last I checked.

It'd be nice if an actual or former practitioner could chime in, though. Most exposure to it I've personally had was a little low-level academic work and some nice chats with someone that had done some considerably higher level academic work related to hindu philosophy, and that was years ago.

... I don't have a consistent position for footwear application. Sometimes I'll stand to put on socks, sometimes I'll sit (usually on the bed, sometimes in a chair, fairly rarely on the floor), sometimes I'll be laying down (in bed, almost always). Sometimes shoes will follow from the same position, sometimes they won't. I'd say I most put on socks while sitting and slip into my shoes (I generally just double/triple knot the shoestrings and be done with it for a few months >_>) standing, but it's not an overwhelming majority sort of thing.

Mostly because there's not much of a story after that. You can't really have a hero's journey if the hero gets glassed as an infant.
... the hero in the story would quite obviously not be the fleshsack that was reduced to a fine organic mist. Unless you're dealing with consciousness backups and whatnot, I guess, or spirit-y silliness.

But nah, the story would probably be from the empress's perspective and deal with the resulting political issues, her own reactions, etc., etc.

... if she was actually the empress of the galaxy? It's pretty possible. Random connection like that, something even remotely traceable -- and if you've actually got an empress of the galaxy, the tech's, intent, and capability are all likely there -- then having any sort of contact would be a really good way to put a gigantic "KILL ME" bullseye on the poor little bugger.

Alternately it could have been a bigger issue that just sending a money package or something. Exchange rates, issues of potentially non-compatible currency if you're dealing with different tech bases... there's a bunch of ways it could fall out she actually couldn't, without drawing enough suspicion to get the kid's planet glassed.

More likely it's just vaguely bad writing, though.

Personally, I'd actually be kinda' interested in seeing/reading the story where she did try and it did get a KKV dropped on the kid's head. That's not a story you see told very often.

Rabid, usually. Slavering is another good one, and just plain starved works, too. Haggard and hungry. Ravenous itself works decently. I think you'd usually use two or more adjectives in that case, probably spread over a couple of sentences, or just let its actions speak for itself. Gaunt figure, desperate hunger in the eyes, etc.

It's a comments section on a news site. There's nothing human about anything involved in those.

... part of the reason B12 can take that sort of thing is that most folks that stick around have the good sense to not do it.

So let's all knock it the hell off and let rage rage on.

Other Games / Re: Good RTS/FPS hybrids

'bout the only RTS/FPS hybrid I've personally played and enjoyed were the battlezone games back during the N64 era. It's vaguely arguable how FPS-y they are but whatev'. They're also, obviously enough, kinda' old at this point.

I'm sure there's other ones out there, somewhere, but I haven't played any. Not terribly surprising considering if you're not running multiplayer it's a sincere pain in the hindquarters to make a UI et al that lets you do the RTS thing from a FPS or third-person perspective, especially without it being frustratingly clumsy.

E: Oh, and Sacrifice. More third-person-y but whatever, it was ballin'.
