Elfen Lied, yes. Maybe that... higurashi thing?

... Fraken Fran? okay, that's more guro-ish comedy than anything but whatever I'unno, it's a sort of genre I usually avoid, m'self. Parasyte (or however that's misspelled), perhaps? All that's coming to the top of my head.

And how I long for those days to return.  :'(
I appreciate games that still come with a comprehensive pdf manuals but reading those just isn't the same.

If you want a printed manual which is highly recommended, then you can order one here from Lulu.. The printed manual is almost 400 pages and comes with a good index and a nice shiny cover. It costs $11.34 which is the lowest price possible for a manual that heavy (no royalties for Illwinter or the author Bruce Geryk).

... and yes, that means the printed manual costs more than the game itself, right now.

Things done today: Spent ~15 minutes bouncing catfood off a cat.

Sterilizing metal is somewhat boring.

Pfft, I've still only read like four pages of the manual. Either for D3 or D4. Also haven't played the tutorial!* What parts of the interface aren't pretty obvious are laid out in the in-game ? pop-up whatsits. Most of the rest of the particulars you can figure out checking out the mod inspector or just askin' someone, heh.

Seriously though, at least give the D3 demo a shot, if only to gaze in awe and wonder at the spell list. If you're micromanagement adverse (though I'd personally say it's about on par with something like a late-game Civ match, at its worst...), it's definitely not going to be up your alley, but still...

*... there's a tutorial?

Is Dominions that good? I mean, I can see that it's old and ugly, that's pretty much par for the course for really complex games. How does it compare to... say, Master of Magic? Civilization? What makes it good?
Skim around the thread, check any of the (well over a dozen, now) B12 games in play with your buddies for AARs or diplomacy, discussions, etc., check one of the LPs for dominions 3 (like this one), of which Dom 4 is pretty much a straight upgrade, just... look around. Dominions in general is a lot like the Dwarf Fortress of fantasy turn-based strategy, albeit, perhaps, more accessible. There's whole bucketfulls of reasons why Dominions is something of a cult classic and generally acknowledged as one of the absolute best entries in the overall strategy genre.

I can't really find the words for it at the moment, but the dominions series in general, of which 4 is definitely the best (at the moment), is quite possibly the fantasy turn-based strategy game with the absolute greatest strategic depth currently on the market. It provides for both grand strategy and vicious tactical combat in a way basically nothing else does. It's bloody close to unique, oozes with flavor, and is just... just wonderful. MoM, Civ... they're games on a different level -- more localized, less epic. Not necessarily worse, but they're something like the Company of Heroes to Dominions' Hearts of Iron.

What makes it good is the variety of options, the thematic flares, the brutal combat, and the incredible amount of sheer dickery that can be done by any player involved in a game. Even in single-player you can experience absolutely epic moments that few to no other games can provide, and in multiplayer things get kicked up to 11 when you're dealing with another half-dozen (or more) people exploiting everything they can to make everyone's day absolutely miserable in the most amazingly engaging ways possible.

It's not for everyone -- the games tend towards fairly slow, especially in multiplayer, and the amount of micromanagement involved is a well known hurdle, especially in late game where even single mistakes can cause whole fronts to collapse (though it's marginally better in D4) -- but if you like grand strategy and fantasy games, it's something you want to check out.

Also, you can get the dominions 3 demo off this page. D3 is definitely a downgrade from D4, but it's close enough you can get a good feel of what you're getting into.

The Diablo 2 droprate is complete shit. I need to stop playing this shitbag game and actually do things with my life. Or waste my life in more productive ways than farming shit bosses with shit droprates in Diablo 2 hoping to find good gear to play through the whole game again on a harder difficulty to try and get better loot. I've played the game to death and killed all fun in it and I should stop.
... when it's reached this point, it's time to cheat. Like. Seriously. Shit drop rates and functionally mandatory grinding is why we have invented inventory editors and whatnot. Maybe fish around to see if there's a mod that ups drop rate, too.

Why people do that to themselves when there's a simple solution to the problem of bad game design, frumple will never quite comprehend.

Why would they lie in a way that has so many factors considered heresy if they wanted to promote Jesus, or if they wanted to bring themselves recognition? The apostles suffered greatly at the hands of man for the sake of this.
Ah... iirc, that sort of thing was actually a fairly standard practice for, at the least, jewish writers. They'd play up the bad/sinful things a particular group did as part of the narrative, then usually have... stuff happen? Don't quite remember the particulars. To more or less establish whatever they're writing about as the proper path, because look at what terrible people have been redeemed/punished/etc. It was quite common in the hebrew bible, at least.

Similarly, Jesus cavorting with those considered the lowest of people was a fairly of bog-standard thing, more or less symbolic of the reach of the teachings, from what I recall... something along those lines, anyway. Is one of the reasons that the times women are highlighted in the biblical texts, uh... isn't necessarily an equitable (?) thing. More a narrative technique, and one quite possibly not really saying anything good about the group invoked.

... the Mana series is where it's at. Sprite work uber alles. Or ASCII. Unicode, whatever. Can't go wrong with alphanumerics.

Is satire, tiru. No l :P

Saltire is the hatred of the sea for mankind.

16092
... saltire? Salt ire? Salty hatred! Tiru is the gambler's wrath.

Though is it specifically eksmas or does X-mas catch the irritation, too?

... ep 13's been hella' chill so far. Only vaguely interesting fluff was a background conversation that got cutoff part way. Pooh. Well, maybe that one-off comment by the space people but it was so one-off who the hell actually knows?

Did notice a couple things -- finally clicked what that upgraded elf balls' head looks like. Like something from the Megaman X series! Not complaining, I've always liked the style. Also the bit in the 14th minute totally looks like an SRW sortie, which is kinda' amusing. Then there was some half-arsed fire exchange, but eh.

... space napoleon. Oh dear. Worst part of it is his hairstyle, especially after the persistent joke I've been making about the Bullocks.

And hey, we might actually start to find out stuff! Like. Next episode.

...

Well, that's it for the night, and G-Reco so far, I think. It's... kinda' fun. B-movie style fun, mostly, so far, but fun.

Someone put a bunny on hairboy's spacesuit :3

Also oh gods alive I just realized they're apparently putting faith in Aida the Unaiming's aim. AHAHAHAHA "She's not particular capable" ahahahahahahahahahahaahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Also trackball eyes are pretty amusing.

oh sweet hell that long range missile pose. Why. wHy. WHY. "Fear the explosive power of my mecha-taint!" ;_;

On the other hand, go Omnom. DANCE THE LASER DANCE OF DEATH, WHEEEEE

I love how ponytail's just like, "Shit, why did you bring her."

Actually, the upgraded elk balls has a pretty neat fighting style. It's still completely ridiculous and vaguely obscene, but it's pretty neat. Also that Vayeate looking machine-gun thing's kinda' alright.

"These aren't the actions of human beings!" But, uh. Sure, we can totally go in through the bottom. Let's have our friend trick them into letting us in :3
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

*facepalms* Potential saboteurs possibly trojan horsing their way into our occupied space station. Eh, let's just let half of them (including the possibly-faking amnesiac who has displayed disturbing physical capability) run around without escort or oversight. Why do you all suck so, G-Reco.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

On to ep 13!

Spoiler: Pinky's Shotcount (click to show/hide)

Oh Bellri's pretty religious. His mom's part of the capital government after all and they're pretty much the vatican.
It would be nice if the show had made any physical indication of that. Well, the first bit. And frankly the second bit, too, because I've not noticed a strong connection between the secular (scheduling/repair/capital guard) and religious (space-pope) bits. Hell, even the one CG dude that I can recall specifically mentioned as a SUCer was noted for apparently unusual behavior. If hairboy is religious it's left-field as the blazes, t'me. I've not even noticed anything that would hint the dude is a regular church-goer...

Honestly, the SUCing has felt... kinda' taped on? Coming from a pretty religious area, you tend to get more, y'know... mannerisms and whatnot... when you're dealing with a population that actually has a high instance of faithful. I've not even got a half-hearted religious vibe from... basically anyone. Even the pope has been figurehead-ish :-\

E: Though, yeah, Ep 12 actually seems to be ramping up that facet of things a bit. Mostly out of nowhere, but hey, I'll take it :V
