... looking at the info on oracle, am I reading things inappropriately or is it, in fact, more or less a troll's wet dream?

Nah, happy thread has fairly explicitly stated, repeatedly, that happinesses that involve other's suffering (even if, perhaps, deserved) do not belong in the happy thread. Watching someone get decked goes somewhere else.

I don't really give a damn about chechnya per se, but someone saying mass atrocities are necessary pisses me right the hell off. Or even the nazi bit -- I don't give a flying fuck if nazi ideology has become entrenched in an area, the proper response to that is not mass fucking murder of civilians, or any of the other atrocities involved in that conflict.

If it were in jest, it was not funny. Which, hey, it wasn't. Time to bail.

I cannot simply just see that and not go completely bonkers. It goes against my culture, my history, and my personal believes.
And so you say the exact same behavior is acceptable. Mass murder and torture is acceptable when your people do it, I guess.

Use the sarcasm font if you're going to be saying something that is in incredibly piss poor taste if misconstrued.

... UR has stated fairly repeatedly that the only beef he has with russians are with those that are either actively invading his country or supporting such (either materially or rhetorically).

Also, no, there were a great deal of fucking atrocities committed by russian forces in chechnya that there are absolutely no justifications for. Calling that shit necessary is frankly fucking sickening. There is no excuse for the mass murder of civilians, among all the other shit russia's forces have gotten up to in relation to that situation. Period. If something like that is necessary for the preservation of a state, that goddamn state does not need to be preserved.

Protip: No, it wasn't goddamn necessary.

And yeah, to cut the likely response off at the knee, there were atrocities by the chechnya side, too. That doesn't make the response acceptable.

... one of the, anyway. The concept of a singular best in the field of drawn entertainment is... vaguely farcical? There's way too much, with entirely too many variously expressed virtues, to single things down to an absolute best of all of them. There's going to be at least a couple dozen tied for first. Maybe over a hundred, even...

... and that's great. It really is.

Eh, big thing with that is it is more good... it's just not more of your good, y'ken? Issue with it is less regarding infinite growth* than it is a very hijacked sort of control over what sorts of growth and where, etc., etc.

The concept itself is fairly straightforward and desirable, but that damn sure doesn't mean the processes involved can't be perverted to hell and back. Or rendered infeasible.

*Well, as an ideal -- as I mentioned, in the face of reality it's basically bugfuck insane to be seeking it. Growth is a tool in a situation involving limited resources, and a damned dangerous one in a lot of cases. Ideally, it's great, but, well. Realistically it has a cost involved and while infinite growth is desirable, infinite cost doesn't just counteract that desirability, it completely destroys it.

I've always liked this tune, but I could never find the name of it.

Here's Benny Goodman's Sing Sing Sing.
Just in case it's you're sort of thing, do be aware there's a good handful of remixes of that in various styles. Unsurprisingly, it's a bit of a favorite :P

Not in US law, anyway. You can assault someone without battering them, though I forget the exact particulars as to how. But it's possible.

... that's... actually fairly obvious? Or should be. More of a good thing is more good. Growth is considered in regards to good things. More people are more opportunities for happiness, more pleasing things is more enablers of pleasure, more resources are more things (research, continued existence, pleasurable things, et al) enabled by said resources, etc., so forth, so on. Were growth infinite, the amount of those things would be without limit. There's... not much that approaches objectively good better than "More good things, forever."

It's just, y'know, impossible, insofar as we've managed to figure out so far. And actual reality tends to react to such endeavors by stretching as far as it can and then breaking catastrophically.

Were it not for pesky reality infinite growth would be about as gorram wonderful as wonderful gets.

... what? No, there... there's fairly significant differences between a physical addiction and a psychological addiction. Among other things, the former's withdrawal symptoms can actually kill you. The latter only makes you want to die, at worst. Going cold turkey from gambling isn't going to cause your heart to stop. Going cold turkey from some chemically addictive substances will.

I mean, yeah, general parlance doesn't differentiate too readily, but there's a pretty damned significant difference in regards to treatment and medical/psychiatric consideration.
