Re: Progressive: Well, if you want to ask the doctor...

Broadly speaking in relation to american christians, it mostly means the ones tossing out/reinterpreting/pointedly ignoring the bugnut insane/bronze age/violently evil strongly socially conservative parts of biblical text. Trying to make their faith more butterflies and rainbows and love and less fire and brimstone and mass infanticide.

Basically the ones that don't think homosexuals are causing YWHW to curse the US, and whatnot. No clue if they use similar terminology in europe.

... if that were true, I would be expecting to hear a lot more about pregnant women attempting to strangle doctors with their stethoscopes. Because I think I speak for all sane women in the world when I respond to sans-painkiller birth with a hearty, "Fuck no."

... that's... there's bits in the bible where YWHW actually does force/change what people choose to do? The bit that was shifted from Ra to YWHW was mentioned either in this thread or the broader one -- forcing the Pharaoh to harden his heart and whatnot. Critter's also known for its behavior mangling curses, too... s'pretty explicitly taken choice away from people at times.

Beyond that... was there any mention of scriptural basis for their position?

Though the know-but-not-force thing... is explicitly stating predetermination. If YWHW already knows what you're going to do, then... you're going to do it. Choice is illusory, in that scenario -- there's only one path that can be taken, because the path is already known. You think you have choice, but you... don't, really. Just the belief that you do. Which plenty say is enough, in and of itself -- and I wouldn't really disagree -- but it's definitely a scenario without actual choice.

Neat that you're getting contradictory responses from the same denominational base, though.

Though I'm very mildly surprised no one responded to "I made the choice to poke you." with "Did you? How would I be able to tell?" As fruitoyo mentioned, it wasn't really an argument against predetermination. At least not one that wouldn't get knocked over in a high-school level philosophy class, heh.

And yeah, cheers for asking.

If a slightly anachronistic medical practitioner had one, would you call it a midwife crisis?
Only if they had it in the middle of their wife.

Which... would probably actually be a cesarean?

... caterpillars are apparently actually pretty damn speedy, when they want to be. Manged to prod one of those fairly sizable spiky black ones into scooting about. I was kinda' impressed. Little bugger managed some decent movespeed, for something stereotypically considered slow.

But then you remember it's a 3.5 monk who quite possibly hasn't been fixed with houserules and you laugh and laugh for days.
Silly FD, there's no "monk" class in 3.5. You must be thinking of the monkey wildshape. Maybe monkfish, I'unno. Regardless, it's an iconic druid class feature, generally.

@SG isn't it mostly because of that "hate all the other congresscritters" thing? That and most people not really knowing what the hell their representatives are doing. Between tribalism and ignorance...

E: Ah, and the gerrymandering. Never forget the gerrymandering.

[snip]... the NSA's stuff got blamed on Obama (he's not clear of responsibility, but it's not like he personally oversees them) and therefore all Democrats by association, therefore pushing a certain contingent of moderates to the Republicans when they heard "Those socialist Dems are personally inspectin' every one of your emails!"
... to others, did any of that actually happen? Last I checked the strongest support for the NSA's bullshit was coming from republican sectors. Can't recall any meaningful republican resistance to it.

I meant the concept of solving real world disputes via virtual combat.
Iirc, this concept is older than I am. Which is... probably older than most of the active board, here. It's multiple decades since inception, anyway. Been a thought since before video games, I think. Not an unknown sci-fi trope, basically -- not the most common, but not so far out there as to surprise anyone when brought up.

If you want to go even further back, the concept of dueling to settle geopolitical/inter-group grievances is old, old, old. Mock or ritualized battle (of limited scope, generally) to settle disputes and whatnot's, like. Pre-grecian or something. BCE era junk.

Gato comes back from the dead as basically Zed. Remainder of the new series details the tribulations of Konoha's giant seal-powered robot pilots in their battle against giant animals. *desultory* Go go power ninjas.

The entire thing will be brought to popular ascendancy by the inclusion of the giant hiruzen head. End episode will actually be giant sarutobi robot piloted by the seal-trapped soul of the God of Shinobi laying a smack down on the entire elemental nations and kicking their shit back in order. It will achieve critical notoriety as the best last minute plot twist ever written into an anime.

Here's hoping for actual progress and constructive dialogue between the two parties!

Yeah, florida was off from 210 by about 2.5%. Kinda' disappointed, it would probably have helped the legal system down here a bit. Not as much as full 420, but eh. Irritating thing is a majority was for it basically everywhere. Just... not enough of one. Meh.

I actually have a question if someone is actually knowledgeable in the Naruto-verse: From what I understand, every character, all the clans, and all the super-dee-duper ninja magic is contained on one conspicuous island. Does the rest of the civilized world in the Naruto-verse CARE that all this trippy ninja shit is happening on this island, or were all the Ninjas and their clans deliberately exiled there for whatever reason?
Seems more like it's part of a larger continent. There's also apparently another continent off to the south of the main happening stuff that's got even trippier ninja shit than normal. Presumably, the really weird stuff is happening offscreen.
Spoiler: well, iirc (click to show/hide)

Sitting in the middle is not "transcendence", misk.

It's called "spitroast".
