General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

I keep getting this half-formed mental image of a mobile suit made from Balls, lately. Since about half-way through watching Build fighters. It would move like General Grevious from those Star Wars cartoons and be able to shift orientation on the fly -- upside down, sideways, whatever. Ballbeley cares not. Cannon fire everywhere, and a grapple monster from hell in close combat. All those reaching pincers, like some kind of freakish amalgamation between a cyclops, a centipede, and an artillery battalion. Probably heat axes or whatev' for graspable melee weapons, I'unno.
It wouldn't be, like. A mobile suit with the head or torso replaced by a Ball, though. It would be a bunch of Balls lashed together in a humanoid shape, cannons and all. Maybe with a head, maybe not -- the main mass could possibly have extra Balls in it, for freely re-orientating head-equivalent.

Also his car, which is completely ridiculous and totally at odds with basically every other vehicle you see. As befits Ral.
The references in that ruddy show, really. S'got pedo!Char and everything.

... y'know, I didn't realize when I wrote it,* but hidden badass was totally a play on the whole guerrilla desert fighting thing. Even though it wasn't an intentional one. Shame on you G for not continuing to play on that
*I was talking about the whole thing with build fighters where Ral doesn't really do much (and folds like a chump a few times in battles) except be there** up until the end,
**And can I just say, yeah, as whoever it was that commented on Try noted, it's kinda' bloody creepy. Ral is freaking everywhere in that show. He's in random places, he's in people's houses, he's at beaches, bars, just... freaking Ral. It's like there's an army of Ral clones just coating the nation. He's like Schroedinger's mecha ninja, only not there when you look away. And he may or may not be banging your wife. Ral's a mecha pimp, is what I'm saying. The Universal Mecha Pimp, a quantum superpositioned mecha pimp that is all mecha pimps simultaneously. That's Ral.

... would it really be that difficult to include a means to temporarily (or permanently) associate skills? I'd think a simple drag/drop equivalent (or drop down prompt or somethin') that raises a flag saying, "Use best of" (with maybe some modifiers for using only part -- half drive counting for ride, or somethin') either when queried wouldn't be that hard.
... would it?

Finally getting around to checking out the old music I had laying around th'old hard drives.
Yeah, it looks like I was a bit of a metalhead. Also quite a bit of cirque du soleil music. Cirque du soleil music is freaking awesome. Also plenty of klezmer and accordion stuff, huzzah! Good to hear some of this stuff again.

... just to check, you do know most of the warhammer fantasy ones do have mods, right?
E: He~ey. Turns out shademail enables black heart just fine. Looks like non-lifeless undead are probably ideal targets for the combo. It's not the most efficient thing in the world (especially considering some stealth boosters to go with it are probably needed), but assassinating wraith lords or whathaveyou (y'know, tartarians, whatev') is an... interesting thing.
I mean, sure, a tartarian assassin is just slightly overkill in most situations, but... as psychological tactics go, goddamn. Tartarian assassin. How the hell do you react to a freaking tartarian assassin rolling up into your crib? I mean, besides patrolling like damn and praying it doesn't just roll over your patrol army anyway.

Oh, you'd certainly get more use from learning latin than being better able to check out bible translations -- latin's probably the most useful useless language in existence. Good handful of languages are pretty heavily influenced by it (English and the romance languages of obvious note), including the obvious technical terminology, and there's quite a bit of important western history that was originally written or preserved in latin. Fair bit of junk you can investigate better if you know how to read it.
Though, to the local library being shut down (if it actually was), there's pretty certainly another one the next town over or whathaveyou. Might even be able to arrange something by mail with some foot work -- talk with the school's librarian or somethin'. They really are ridiculously useful resources if you're willing to use them, for all that they seem to be on a bit of a down turn nation wide. But yeah, even if the library itself doesn't have what you're after, interlibrary loans are a thing -- an awesome thing. I managed to get a book on ruddy fuzzy logic in the middle of rural florida, from a library in a town with a population of ~500 whose library is smaller than most of the houses in the area.

As always, step one is google. Those two links were the first two non-sponsored google hits, for me.
Step two, would be your local library -- had I the means to do so, I would absolutely bet you something of monetary worth that something related to learning it is in your local library system, even if it entails interlibrary exchange. Any local college is similarly assured.
Step three would be to check with your school -- if you're in the US, I know for flat fact many places have access to latin courses, including on the high school level via online courses.
Step four, in your case in particular, Cryx, would be to ask your pastor, because it's almost guaranteed that if they don't have resources on hand for dealing with the original languages of the bible, someone they're connected to within the church system will, and it's not impossible they'd be willing to just lend it to a member of the congregation interested in furthering their understanding of the bible.

One of the instant kill spells, anyway. Massed mind duel if they've got astral. Maybe just one of the send-on-trip spells or somethin' -- in hell's as good as dead if it lets you take their last province. Could also stack hilarious amounts of horror marks on 'em, maybe. Throw on that curse, get that never healing wound in.
If they don't have a meaningful way to attack, you might try earth attack (or some other means of assassination, if you can acquire it* -- send in a non-caster with a skellie amulet set to cast spells) and laugh when/if the turn limit gets hit and insta-kills 'em. Similarly, if they're killing, throw in a bunch of chaff and then VotD them into end-fight auto-kill, heh.
*Actually, I've been meaning to ask about that. How does the assassin's heart thingy react to shademail?

Was going to drop it in the USA politics thread where it doesn't belong, but since it's gone and migrated...
Somewhat tangential to the migrating conversation, but... I'unno, part of me wonders what we could really do if we broke off from profit motive a bit. Just how long a lifespan can we engineer into a low end computer, ferex, if the idea was to make something for the entire population that lasts a substantial portion of their life and enabled, say, basic access to low-impact (like, 90s era website resource impact) digitalized libraries and maybe very basic (telnet/IRC level) intercommunication as a basic minimum? I mean, hell, I know we've got initiatives trying to get cheap laptops and whatnot to the (comparatively) impoverished, but... how much further could we take that if we actually specifically engineered for it? We had ruddy gameboys that could -- did -- last well over a decade and still functioned. Why don't we have 80s/early 90s era computers doing the same and being handed out like candy?
Just how much of our people's technological and engineering capabilities are being held back by profit motive and the various junk surrounding modern economies?
S'just... other hypotheticals. If we just suspended movie production for a year and redirected the funds toward 100-200 USD computers, how much of the world's population could we give cursory digital capabilities to? Stuff like that.

"Like, just different." S'honestly more of a phonetic shortening but eh.
Also two apostrophes in a word, especially surrounding the same letter, just looks kinda' terrible in english. M'with is much more aesthetically pleasing, as well as closer in appearence to the phonetic pronunciation, than 'mwith.

Hmm...? No, they're on the right side of the letters. It's just a mildly convoluted sort of contraction. M'with is short for "I am with"and S'like is short for "It is like". Kinda' like o'clock, just... different. And at least partially invented, but hey, language.
Basically one-upping the normal stuff. Instead of folding up one word into a letter, I fold up two! Progress.
E: Or slurred pronunciation. Whatev'.

« on: October 10, 2014, 06:05:00 pm »He doesn't sound polite at all. Something's wrong when that sounds polite.'Murrica, honey. M'with nenjin with this one. They all do sound pretty restrained to me, and the vulgarity to word ratio is, like, trivial. Sounds like people that would kinda' like to hit someone, but aren't even remotely to the point of violence yet. S'like. You probably couldn't even hear them across the street or somethin'. Folks around here get pissed you can probably hear it from a good chunk of a football (either sort) field away, through a crowd.
I'd say someone should provide a comparison piece to offer what impolite sounds like across the seas, but it would both be something I wouldn't ask another person to trawl around to find and probably in violation of the forum's ToS if posted.

Welp. Just finished watching Build Fighter's last episode. Not bad.
Old dudes stole the show like goddamn. Ral confirmed for hidden badass, etc. Well, more confirmed, whatever. Would kinda' rather watch a show about their generation, t'be honest.
Solving problems by punching them, very shonen.
Nice stuff all around, really, and very well set up for the incoming sequel.
Definitely among the best bits of product placement I've ever seen. Right up there with the mario movie in my personal evaluation of greatness.
