... which I mentioned, yes.

... is that a thing that actually happens? Last I checked when it reaches the point of needing to artificially keep productivity down in order to avoid having too much surplus, companies just start firing people.

Hell, that's a fair chunk of the reason the service industry in general even freaking exists. Didn't have anything to do because actual production work didn't need more people.

@RK: ... that last one wouldn't make the whole thing worth it, but it would be a disturbingly close facsimile thereof. An ironybomb that concentrated isn't worth lives, but... it's close to it.

I was under the impression we already had teleoperation?
So far as I'm aware, yes. Sees particularly notable use in medical and military fields, that I'm aware of. Looks like we're starting to see an increase in civilian usage, even. Y'know, beyond RC cars and whatnot.

C'mon folks, PoH's clearly stated the only things taken were spare change, the former positioning of the cupholders, and the structural integrity of a window. Everything else is still there, presumably.

There's inconsistencies I'm not sure how translation errors would explain. Hell, genesis 1 and genesis 2 have different orders for the order of creation, and the second outright contradicts the first by separating the creation of man and woman, which were created together in gen 1.

And that's, like. The first book. Inconsistent reports of time regarding the same incident (X years in one gospel, Y years in another) seem to pop up pretty often -- number mismatch in general, really -- as well, among... well, just a bunch of stuff.

This, dredged up by something like two seconds of google searching, provides a fairly interesting list involving various degrees of contradiction. Some could be explained by translation error (and some aren't so much biblical self-contradiction so much as contradiction between the bible and reality), but others... less so.

This is also pretty neat. What it's sourced from is arguably questionable (for the annotations, if not necessarily the translation in itself), especially considering it's a single translation and, well, we're talking about the problems with that right now, but it's neat none the less.

Sounds pretty terrible.
Hahaha, I spent a college semester tutoring people (on behalf of the campus) struggling with that goddamn website/program, along with like, taking three or so classes that was used in. Mostly in accounting.

It's kinda' fun. It'll fail people for screwing up capitalization or order on exercises where capitalization and order don't actually matter in practice, and that's just the start of its many and varied failings. Half the time tutoring consisted of helping people figure out how the hell wiley wanted them to format stuff instead of anything related to the actual course material. There was much guessing involved, because the piece of shit wasn't frakking consistent.

And that's just failings as a teaching tool -- it's technical failings as a website are an entirely different set of "fuck you". Occasionally screwing up, disconnecting the student, and wiping clean what could have been an hour or better worth of work (sometimes when they try to save the bloody thing?)? Oh yes.

Suffice it to say, it's on the list of bits of software that have creators that need to be dragged out into the street and shot. I saw actual tears because of that freaking thing.

All that said, if you could actually get through all the wiley assignments, anything else the classes in question could throw at you was pretty much cake. Its assignments were (needlessly) longer, more pedantic, more difficult (and not the good sort difficult, mind), and less clearly defined, than anything else you'd do in class.

Haha, but seriously, I speak in concordance with anyone and everyone that's actually been exposed to wiley when I say: Fuck wiley.

Hee~ey. Me neither.

And cheers, LB. That could be the actual source of it.

Who, exactly, loses here?
People who need to know that other people fail in order to feel validated in their accomplishments, I guess. S'kinda' the vibe I get when I hear some folks (not here, mind -- in real life) expressing their opinions regarding the "leeches". That people who have lives so miserable that a basic living wage would be a substantial improvement need to exist, so that one's own achievements are highlighted in comparison.

I can sort of see it, even. There's those that don't have the capacity or interest in doing 1 or 2 from your three options, Baug, but are prevented from sinking into 3 solely by the threat of starvation. If that threat is removed, their own acts would lose the value they ascribe to them, from their point of view.

Mind you, it should be somewhat obvious in the saying that I think those folks are kinda' terrible human beings, but it seems to be a thing, at least implicitly.

... so, for those of you that have translation preferences, what's your heuristic? How are you choosing one over the other?

... I've yet to be around anyone that was more fun to be around any degree of drunk than they were sober, personally. And I've been around considerably more than I would like. They're mostly just... less than they were sober. Less amusing, less witty, less coherent. Less everything. It's also somewhat suspicious that the vast majority of people claiming it's fun to be around drunk people are also ones that indulge, as well, hum. Inhibited situation assessment and memory? Hrm. Sounds like the influence of alcohol, a'ight.

I'll just... keep avoiding the stuff. Apparently the entrance fee to find inebriation and being around others in the same state pleasurable is too high, f'me.

Others are welcome, though. M'fine being around drinkers so long as they're not drinking, usually.

And some of the fanfiction. SEED fanfiction has produced a good handful of works that are notably better than the two series in question (not that that's the most difficult task in the world)... and actually pretty decent, too.

That said, you don't have to watch the SEED stuff to get into the fiction. Might not even want to, honestly.

You're a bot, darvi. That's not a person.

As for the series, blazes if I know. I haven't seen them all, and while I would totally recommend watching 08th stuff, at the very least, I'm not sure how good of a starter series it would be for someone uninitiated into the shows.

... the incredibly vast majority are already completely dependent on the mercy of the ones who give the money. Actually guaranteeing something livable would be a helluva' improvement.

And @nen, that last bit was definitely good for a chuckle. It's neat to see Palin thinks straight shooting involves drunken brawls.
