Is it lying? Seems more like salesmanship really.
Just because marketing has fancy words ("puffing", for instance) for lying out your ass does not mean you aren't lying out your ass.

What kind of God shows off by killing a fig tree?

I mean, it's rather obnoxious and....silly.
Maybe it was a really kickass fig tree? Like, that tree was what actually happened to Chronos and Zeus was just lying so everyone wouldn't fear the nigh infinitely mighty figging that awaited them in the middle east.

Maybe we should just axe capitalism.
Capitalism would probably be fine if we just occasionally killed the top quarter or so of the system and redistributed the funds around. Figuratively or literally, kinda' don't care at this point. Maybe every fifty years or so. Stop market domination with an axe, stuff like that. Kept the competition actually flowing. Stop inheritance entirely past a certain point, perhaps. Hard limit CEO et al wages and bonuses. All sorts of stuff.

Well, and kept it the hell away from necessary goods that don't respond well to market forces (*coughhealthcareinfrastructureeducationjusticeetccough*).

... or just peg max allowable profit to national standard of living or somethin', I'unno. Bastards who get better as everyone else gets worse need a bullet to the head, but I'd settle for air-tight legal bonds stopping that BS. And maybe a little maiming or something. You must have this few limbs to ride the gravy train?

E:Wait, wait. Why are we talking about this in the US politics thread? Aren't we supposed to be mostly avoiding metadiscussion?

Sweet fuck can we not have the starbound's thread incessant dead horse beating migrate over here, please?

If... if you're going to ask, then... sure?

Why?

Can dig that sort of ah-ha! moment, though. I don't think it actually hit me until after I had stopped needing (and long past wanting) to take mathematics related classes (the accounting came later, and I... don't really consider the fields related, honestly. Math is talking about numbers, accounting is numbers talking about stuff. Or something.), and I think the only time I've seen mathematics expressed in that sort of way in a classroom setting was... I think an epistemology class, in relation to language? Something like that, anyway.

Heh. Yeah, I remember things like that actually crashing the game, back during one of the periods monster generation was freaking insane, especially on the 11+ depth levels. You'd have something like five or six dozen classed monsters roaming around a single level (most of them hostile to each other), with the ridiculously huge piles of associated loot that would get gathered up by whatever survived the melee (but probably not the player swooping in afterwards, of course). Loot lists a couple hundred items long and whatnot.

Pretty sure I've had games end with like 100+ stacks of potions of extra-healing (not plain healing, mind -- that's not impossible even without challenge difficulty -- extra-healing, the next step up) and such silliness, it got pretty great. Eventually toned down because it was freaking insane to walk onto a level with several dozen classed monsters and an equal or greater amount of non-classed (but probably still otherwise templated) ones, including many dragons or whatev'.

Five minute or so compilation of time-lapsed fungus growth. They're... oddly majestic. Almost alien. Occasionally incredibly phallic. But I'm finding that time lapsed videos of things growing are pretty awesome. Don't think I've ever really sat down and watched some before.

No, no, that can be one-up'd. Giant squid.

Admittedly, beyond the chance of being eaten, that has the possibility of backfiring into a reputation for a tentacle fetish, but... maybe that would be an improvement?

... yeah, when they get large enough the single lines become de-facto double ones, I tend to just leave them that way -- they're still going to be less vulnerable to AoE than if they were boxed, and they render flanking attacks that much more difficult, so...

Also harder to just punch through at that point, too, so it's sort of a good thing. Presumably if you're still worried about AoE you could try the skirmish formation. Don't think I've ever actually used it, m'self, and I have no idea how it reacts to buggeroff huge squads, but...

Though... is there a way to see what your formation looks like in combat without actually starting a fight? That would be intensely helpful, but I couldn't seem to find a command for it browsing the ? lists.

... which makes me glad there's no obstacles for me, haha!

Honestly, it's probably a good thing I don't actually watch much anime and have a definite preference towards the salacious in my entertainment. Even after well over a decade of fairly regular interaction with stuff of such nature, I'm still happily not burnt out. Or at least haven't managed to do so more than temporarily.

I barely even notice, some days. The first half of ep. 7 just had me kinda' cheerfully grinning.

... but yeah, those not desensitized to the stuff baug's (rightfully) complaining about might should stay away. I can't blame them, but I have no shame maintaining my original statement, either.

I want to make fake reviews for fake books now
No, no, what you really want to do is make fake reviews for fake performance enhancing drugs.

I couldn't watch that shit. The first episode spend something like a quarter of the airtime with Illya in the bath/wearing a towel/whatever, plus the predictable incest-fetish teasing, and maybe fifteen or twenty seconds being interesting. Is there really enough decent material in it to be worth watching in spite of that?
Caveat being that I've both only started episode seven and am pretty much entirely unbothered by the fanservice, I would say that the fight scenes so far have been worth trudging through those bits or skipping them. Glorious death lasers, everywhere.
Spoiler: Is spoiler, yes (click to show/hide)

And while suggestive shots and camera angles are pretty common throughout, so far, the dakka to fanservice ratio increases sharply after an episode or two. Hell, I don't think I've seen the fake-incest teasing since episode one, and only one other (much shorter and toned back) bath scene. That sort of thing was pretty heavily frontloaded, apparently. No clue if it's going to equalize as the series continues or not, though.

I know I fixate on the blobs a bit -- pretty willing to raid with thugs/SCs or whatev', but moving a relatively small army into enemy territory is just... hard.

The biggest issue t'me is being able to figure out what's big enough -- being able to take five provinces a turn doesn't matter if five turns later your entire force has been defeated piecemeal and it takes 5+ more to recuperate your losses, all while whatever offered up your defeat in detail rampages around unchecked. Especially given that while a 100 troop 3 mage army may be able to take a province (often easily, depending on PD and defending forces), whatever's left behind probably won't be able to keep it. And while constant raiding is a very, very good thing to be doing (both for the economic effect and how demoralizing it can be for an opponent), it's not, in itself, necessarily going to win the game for you. And the economic effect of it can become very diluted if you're constantly losing your raid groups (of course, that makes the reanimating or domsum nations very attractive for multi-group attacks, since they don't really pay much for their junk).

What's actually nice about the end game is by that point you should (hopefully, and contingent to your nation) have a lot of options for dealing with enemy armies off the main battlefield. Assassins, remote attack spells of both the direct (damaging/assassinating) and indirect (weather/supply targeting/disease, etc) sorts, the as-noted bypassing (if giant army barrels into your nation, hop flying SC/thug(s) a province or two behind them and just clean up after the mess), globals such as vengeful waters, etc., etc. Short of nasty stuff like an SC trapezing in and setting up a lab for an incoming gateway(s), large armies are very... inflexible. Slow, and vulnerable to said defeat in detail if they split up to deal with multi-pronged attacks.

... but yeah, as for actual formations, if it's reached the point the blob is battlefield wide I tend to just say screw it and let it blob. Put casters where they can hit stuff with gift of flight or somethin' or just let the non-caster/unimportant troops get chewed up while the other stuff do their work. At that point I don't really seem them as means of offense so much as ablative HP shields for my actually important stuff, and at that point their placement becomes... less important. I have, however, played a disproportionate amount of chaff heavy nations in SP games, which definitely influences that tendency.

Guess the series is a year old or whatever, but just finished ep six of Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA.

This is entirely too goddamn pleasing to my sensibilities.
