...

... did I completely forget last sunday? Huh.

I'll, uh. Try to show up? Probably. I'm not actually sure, because I've got out-of-town family showing up that day, wisdom teeth removal early the next morning, and a couple hundred gigs of old hard drive to sort through before either, but. Will try.

In very short retrospect, I actually think the fact that DF creatures are currently incapable of feeling hope is perhaps one of the more interesting parts of that devlog. Poor Tzeentch. There'll be no foothold in these worlds.

... I wonder if that stress/stability thing means we'll eventually be able to have a species that literally has to, say, torture cats in order to stay sane. Maybe even with variations, so each species member requires a different domestic (or, in particularly unfortunate cases, non-domestic) species.

Or have time off to paint pictures or something, I'unno. Elves would have to get within X distance of a tree or go bonkers or somethin', I guess. Desert elf embark for extra fun :3

!!!

Oh happy day, it was on one of the old hard drives! The alarm clock program that just fucking worked! No bells! No whistles! JUST FUNCTIONING. I couldn't find it again! AND NOW I HAVE!

Sweet zeus, I have found you oh lovely piece of svelte, working code. I have found you again.

You can get it from here. It's the digital alarm clock. And it. Just. Works.

On Vista, anyway. No guarantees for anything else. Actually no guarantees at all because computers are computers, but sweet hell that is one of the most strictly straightforward and functioning alarm clock programs I've ever used, and for me it stands as one of the highest examples of exactly how you design a bloody utility program.

Tiruin's evil form would probably be a foot-high.
Tiru does play mafia and whatnot, right? I think by foot high, you mean a continent-spanning giant's foot. Those games are basically evil training grounds, from what I understand.

So the hard drive dock thingy came in today. Have started sifting through old hard drives. And I found
Spoiler: this (click to show/hide)

Apparently two years ago that was something of note to me. It's... it's so precious. You can actually see the little tab icons, and the private bites are only a gig.

... times have changed.

COUNTER-ATTACK!
... bit belated, but your counter-attack does nothing when I've already got that RSS'd.

That process actually works with non-soups, too.

Some random person pretending to be a syrup slathered icicle person from the frozen north, apparently. We're on to you, though. It's still another decade or two before the people of canada thaw out from their icy prisons and escape the congealed syrup goop to ride forth in their moose-riding hordes and conquer the southern lands, so it's very obvious you're not canadian.

No need. The place is nothing but frozen wasteland and immobile icicle people slathered in syrup anyway, so nothing happens and there's no need for a news thread.

S'not bad. Just wish it didn't look so much like victorian (rough approximation) era erotic poetry.

Newbie game or a mixed-skill disciple game, heh. Having an experienced player (or more than one) effectively on tap is... pretty useful for figuring stuff out. Latter is something more of a commitment, though, only slightly offset by the fact you can pass off your nation to, well, your nation if you need to drop out or miss a few turns or somethin'.

Seriously, each of those extra Us is a full key press off a 60 wpm (which comes out to ~15k kph) typer's output. That means we can actually put a price tag on it -- assuming minimum wage of 7.25/hour, each of those Us would cost the employer at least 1/2000th of a dollar, ultimately leading up to many thousands of dollars lost across the country per year to useless anachronisms. Getting rid of the unneeded Us is nothing but fiscal responsibility. Quite possibly one that should be pursued more vigorously in order to improve production.
